It's interesting, I thought PR was rubbish, going in with high expectations. My wife and I also went into G14 with high expectations. At the end, I cheered and she was tearing up. We thought it was teriffic, and will be seeing it again. In fact, I'm taking my character design class to see it on Tuesday. Afterward, we'll be designing kaiju as a class project.
I just realized, I saw G14 tonight at the same theater that I saw KING KONG ESCAPES at in 1968, which is just down the road from the site of the (now closed) drive-in where I saw DESTROY ALL MONSTERS the same year.
I thought it was pretty good but i do wish they had trimmed some of the human scenes, especially in the second half and extended some of the monster scenes.
Just got back from seeing it. All in all, it was only okay. I'm not a huge fan of Godzilla in general but I just really didn't care what was happening on screen. I didn't care about the humans and I didn't care about Godzilla. It wasn't that it was boring, it was just kinda empty and lifeless. Also, the acting was nothing special. Aaron Taylor Johnson seems like he's just going through the motions and trying to get the movie over with. I liked him in the first Kick Ass but he's pretty bland in this.
