Just got back I give it 7/10.

Needs all the sappy family parts trimmed right down, how many times do we need to see someone whip out a crumpled photo and look sad.

I'm thinking the lack of kaiju action might be down to the budget they had to play with?

Yeah the Muto was out for heads Godzilla got nuked on the head, shot in hawaii, and bombarded in the Bay and didn't go after humans once. I dont care how anybody tries to justify that, that's lame.

I'm pretty sure Godzilla can't feel nukes, bullets and missiles. Even if he doesn't like being shot at, he doesn't have the energy to focus his attack on two different enemies. Also, I'm pretty sure he created a tsunami, took out a bridge and collapsed multiple skyscrapers. Sure, he might have only done so in order to kill the MUTO, but that's the point. Godzilla doesn't have the time nor the energy to focus his attack on the humans as well as the MUTO. At the end of the film, he retreated back to the ocean looking to feast on plutonium in order to regain his strength. He may very well come back in the sequel to stop the humans from mining his food source.

Adultery?

What would Mrs. Adolfo think?

Just got back and I loved it a lot despite its flaws. I really did like how restrained it was cause it made the climactic showdown in San Francisco all that more skreeonking epic! Still, I think the airport fight scene should have had a bit more screen time. What we saw of it and how it was presented though was inventive to say the least but as a Godzilla fan, I kinda wanted more. Gareth really shot this as he did "Monsters" but with a bigger budget of course. And that's not bad. Definitely an 8/10 for me and I expect to see it again this weekend. Bottomline--this film screams for a sequel. Whether the next one features original kaiju like the MUTOs or Ghidora or Mothra, turn up the kaiju action and start to flip it from Godzilla being a savior to a bad guy or have the human race turn against him so he starts hunting us. My wish would be the next film takes place across the globe then if a third one is released, you bring it all home to Japan. Gareth said he wanted to do Destroy All Monsters next. I hope he does it.

Oh hell yeah! Oh hell yeah! Oh hell yeah!

It was projected at 73 million.

Now look:

Friday AM Update: Godzilla earned a gigantic $9.3 million from late Thursday shows. For the weekend, it could wind up over $100 million... > FULL STORY

Thursday Update: Playing at around 3,400 locations, Godzilla earned a phenomenal $9.3 million from late Thursday shows. That's one of the best late-night openings ever for a non-sequel.

Compared to recent releases, Godzilla actually performed better than The Amazing Spider-Man 2 ($8.7 million), and was only a bit behind Captain America: The Winter Soldier ($10.2 million). It also did over twice as much business as World War Z ($3.6 million), which had the advantage of opening when school was out.

This debut guarantees at least $70 million for Godzilla. If it plays like Spider-Man 2, it will have the biggest opening of the year with around $98 million. It could go even higher, though: using Thor: The Dark World or 300: Rise of An Empire as comparable titles puts the movie above $110 million for the weekend.

Of course, those are all sequels, which should theoretically be more front-loaded. At this point, the sky is the limit for Godzilla.
