And whoever asked if Destroyah is Godzilla's doomsday, absolutely not. He might be Godzilla Jr's doomsday, but Godzilla was already dying before Destroyah came around. And Godzilla was ripping Destroyah to shreds at the end of the fight, but Super X-3 got the kill-shot as Godzilla began melting. But, I still say Space Godzilla is Godzilla's most powerful opponent. He or MechaGodzilla.

Nah, when Godzilla first charged up his beam, the tail-swipe that impaled Muto 1, and the brutal beheading of Muto 2 with that badass roar were better than anything I saw in Pacific Rim. PR had cool moments don't get me wrong, but it was more fun than epic to me.

none of those godzilla moments came close to Pacific Rim mainly because I was never attached to Godzilla as a character so those felt superficial. Godzillas beam felt more like fan service but the tail whip was badass, probably my favorite part, didn't care to much for the two breath attacks, mainly because there was no build up to them, they just happened.

BUT I don't want to create a piss match about the difference between PR and Godzilla, it just boils down to different expectations. I have seen godzilla twice, i just wish i enjoyed it more.

If they can manage to get the go ahead for a sequel, he'll be established so we shouldn't have to wait an hour to see him. I want to see at least four times the Godzilla action.

At the very least I'd rather them have all the talk about the Mutos to be about Godzilla instead. They were focused on the origins and what those monsters were doing that Godzilla wasn't really the focus until later.

I think what some people are missing is what I took away from the film, the feeling that even if we think we're the dominant species we're really just ants to anything that comes along that's bigger than us. In G2014 the monsters weren't really out to kick our arse, humanity and our crap just got in their way and they simply bulldozed it all as they moved about. Dr Serizawa in this movie seemed important to me atleast as he was someone who was studying these monsters and knew that whatever we tried likely wouldn't pay off, how much do we really know about Monarch? Him and his assistant clearly believed Godzilla to be the alpha predator amongst these atomic monsters and hence him rooting in his own way for the big G.

And the atomic breath just happening? I lost my mind when I saw the blue glow then the charging up starting at his tail.

All the people saying this film is a disappointment and the worst is out of there mind. This is the Godzilla we deserved in 98 and if you stick by that film and call it better than this. Something is wrong with you. So far nothing but positives on this film including from the critics. Seriously America got it right after the disaster in 98. Toho I bet is proud finally and if we truly get a sequel with more classic Godzilla monsters than **** yeah. The King of the Monsters is reborn and he will live on instead of being casted away in the shadows by everyone else. He's back and I'm happy to see this film doing well. We'll hopefully see Toho make new Godzilla films and see a sequel to this. I see no disappointment in this film. It has it's cons but not so much. Pros out weigh it. No film is perfect. All have it's flaws even the best. I'm a die hard Godzilla fan including my brother and we are satisfied with what we saw. Stop whining. I've seen to much nitpicking ******** lately in the movie threads. Nothing perfect out there but so far not trash.

Everyone has different expectations and things they look for in a film. No-one in their right mind could say this is worse than the 98 film but that doesn't mean it's good. It's a lot of ideas not fully realised and mixed together in 3 sections (where the first half hour could be cut down to a few minutes and have the same effect), with not much of the titular character and fight scene cop outs by going to a news clip or just skipping ahead in time. And when we actually got to see some fighting it was in the dark under smokey conditions. It may be the best american Godzilla film but it's far from a masterpiece even if it's not trash. But they've introduced him now so maybe in the sequel they'll be braver and show us more of what we want to see.

Did they even really explain Godzilla's origin other than the creatures for early Earth when it was more radioactive? And that they'd tried to kill it before?

Someone here said bring back Jen Wannabe for the sequel... Man I hope not... He was the worst part of the film.... He was there to explain that Godzilla was the good guy and that was about it.... Don't know how he knew he was the good guy... Don't know how he knew much about anything other then for plot convenience. He really was annoying IMO. At least figure it out as the film unfolds... Don't have all the answers right off the bat....

Also... Shouldn't everyone have dropped a load in their pants when Godzilla first breathed his Radioactive fire??? Should have been some kind of better reaction then someone on the radio saying "did you see that?" Of course Ken Wannabe probably knew he was going to do it the whole time....

This 100%. The guy irritating as hell, and the whole "let them fight" nonsense annoyed me, why would the US military or anyone for that matter take advice from someone who has been keeping a giant monsters existence a secret and then failed to stop it when it awoken. Then gets a boner about his alpha predator and wants to let 3 giant monsters fight on US soil, better there than in Japan I guess was his motivation. The character came across as an idiot, he unleashed one monster, which led to the breakout of a bigger monster and then another monster but old Ishiro believes Godzilla will win so let them fight.

Another thing I don't like it Edwards directing style, he stuck to the same Monsters shots were you glimpse the monsters but never see anything clearly, did he not adjust to the bigger budget? And realise that people may wanna see more monster action in a big budget hollywood monster blockbuster named Godzilla no less. But they went the character route and failed to get me to care about any of them, except the little boy on the train maybe.

I was looking forward to this for so long but it failed on viewing, some nice aspects but too much filler and un-needed scenes coupled with everything above left me disappointed.

To give it credit it though, what I actually saw of Godzilla was great cgi.

I agree. Even if PR had more fights Godzilla was just better for me and godzilla was more brutal. I enjoyed godzilla way more than PR. I was more bored in PR then I was in this movie.

read the graphic novel :wave

I thought the movie was ok overall. Solid 6.5/10 i suppose. Agreed with what JNMX2000 said.

But it dosen't have any high re-watch value for me. I'd rather pop in Pacific Rim anyday.

My main gripe with the movie, is again, 75% of the movie focusing on the human characters (and the blue balls inducing **** teases)

After the movie, i started thinking.... practically almost every human character in the movie was pointless.
Bryan Cranston - he predicts the patterns... so what? shut off the power? so what... monster comes alive anyways - pointless

Ken Watanabe - hes been studying the Pod for 15 years and Gojira for however long. At the end, he knows almost nothing more then anyone else, and he has no idea of how to stop them. Just let them fight? They were gonna fight anyways. - pointless

Kick Ass - The bomb disposal guy. He didn't dispose the bomb. He blew up the eggs, so i'll give him a little credit.

Elizabeth Olsen and Son - pointless

Army - they thought about bombing a city that may or may not have worked, which at the end, they didn't even use so.... - pointless

My opinion, apart from mine...(i know) - pointless

Godzilla's last kill was pretty damn epic. Godzilla WINS ! Fatality ~

LOL!! 4x.... No wonder the film made as much as it did... Jye kept going back and taking people along for the ride :)

I only paid for 3 out of the 4. :lol

:lol

Japanese are precognitive when it comes to Godzilla. :lol

I have to disagree with you bud. Godzilla coming from underneath the ground in Mothra vs. Godzilla '64 and him rising out of the volcano in Godzilla vs. Biollante I think are the best ones still.

Now, best kill-shot in a Godzilla movie ever probably goes to Godzilla 2014 for his fatality on mama Muto.

The final fatality kill was indeed his best yet.

That being said, his introduction at the airport, with first the foot, then the tail, then the pan up to his head with the music swelling is the BEST Godzilla reveal-arrival out of of ANY of his movies.

The thing I like about his reveal in the new movie is that is mirrors his reveal in '84 very much, a tight shot of the feet and slowly panning up his massive body. 2014 definitely has the better lighting, but '84 definite had more fear-inducing music overlaying it.

As an intro to Godzilla the film was ok. I certainly cared for the Godzilla humans vs the PR humans. That's a fact and means a lot when watching films. Do I wish they had more of actual Godzilla? You betcha. This is a nice restart of this franchise anyway. Here's hoping this eventually leads to a destroy all monsters type of film. Maybe even the greatest Godzilla film of all. Fingers crossed. I give this film a 7.5/10. Gotta hand it to the trailers. They got us hooked without revealing the story, plus how the Fk can one not love Godilla or any Kaiju. I did love the cinematography and looking back pretty much all the Godzilla/Mutos shots came from the human eye level. It's pretty much exactly what these Kaiju would look like if you were looking at them at the actual scene. Special effects/CGI were outstanding. Among the best compared to say the hobbit and even PR

Also when Edwards talks about jaws and alien there's one thing those films had that this didn't and that was an ensemble cast that was fun to watch. ATJ had no one to share the moments with once his dad was gone, it was just him which is why he felt boring because he had next to no one to really share the moments with that was with him the whole way.

Agree 100%... I really agree with the ATJ comments... I said that way back when in my review. Whenever he had someone to play against I thought he was fine.. But most of the film he was by himself. Plus many of the other actors were just as wooden... The main military General was pretty stiff. And Ken Wannabe just sounded more important because he had an accent, otherwise he was dull in his role also.

Oh and all this talk about Pacific Rim vs Godzilla... Well Cloverfield was better then both :)

Something is wrong with YOU, actually.
Take Emmerich's movie and cut all the fun with most of the action then make it bigger, messier, dumber... VOILA! :lol

Do people complain about the lack of T-rex in Jurassic Park? Or do the other dinosaur appearances balance it out enough? If so why, don't the Mutos create that balance for people as well?

1. JP wasn't called "T-rex Saves the Day in the End of the Movie"

2. JP was about arrogant people playing God and being punished

3. This "Godzilla" was about never existed creatures from never existed time period suddenly appearing and killing each other while dumb ass people trying to destroy them self while trying to destroy something they can't destroy

Cloverfield was more suspenseful than both yes, but Godzilla was to me more suspenseful than PR. I liked PR too but it had a Robot Hellboy vs Creatures feel to it. The Godzilla sequel I think has a great chance of being greater than all the above films. I woulda had Cranstons son die at the end. I did like in this film where Godzilla/Mutos almost acted like that the humans don't exist. They just kept doing their thing, they would really have to be bothered for them to notice the ants/people

Now that a sequel is coming, hopefully it's still Legendary and Ewards and if it is, I wonder if Edwards will really try to play out his Destroy All Monsters vision or if it'll be taken in a different direction based on response to this film.

I saw this yesterday and it was a pretty big let down.

6/10 for me. Frankly, I hope they get someone other than Edwards for a sequel.

Cranston was great, Godzilla was cool in his, I dunno, 12 minutes? Everything else was bad. The fights before the end one, the guy from Kick-ass, even Olson were let downs. This will not go down as a Jaws or Jurassic Park I can tell you that right now. JP3 maybe.

Thanks for your expert opinion.

It'll be remembered for how much it divided people's opinions and for being the best Murikan G movie atleast.
