It's possible Edwards was overwhelmed by a larger cast and didn't know how to bring out the best, so the reason Cranston seems so above the rest is because he's a veteran and good enough that he doesn't need direction to pull it off where others might. Also, Edwards 2 cast members in Monsters were a real couple so they played a lot into the quality of how things play on screen.

Olsen was really good. She just didn't have much to do, which is a shame.

Edwards has said he did it because too much fighting becomes over kill and boring. I tend to agree with that. I look at MOS as a great example of too much action becoming boring.

It wasn't the that there was too little fighting, it's the fact that they spent a whole lot of time building up to a big fight and than completely cut away to a kid calling Godzilla a dinosaur or cut away to army guys doing boring army stuff. It just completely took away the momentum for me and was really frustrating. I found myself clock watching during the movie too.

Wait, so now everybody is supposed to hate this movie?

What's this nonsense of Michael Bay talk? He's done plenty of harm with Transformers and Ninja Turtles, no room for that crap here!!

most people were frustrated about this. EVEN the ones that liked the movie a lot.

I was surprised because even some godzilla fans were annoyed by the amount of teasing that it was done. Not the fact that they wanted 1 hour of fights but that they were building it up so much and not delivering.

like this one, the nerd is a huge fan and he even found the teasing to be too much

or this one, loved the movie but got annoyed by the teasing

I love the movie and the cut aways bugged me. :lol

The San Fran cut away was one too many. :lol

At least the airport one was followed with an awesome funny scene of the kid watching the fight on TV, which was like a Godzilla movie we watched as kids on TV.

I LOL at that scene.

The airport cut away built up suspense for me.

The San Fran cut away was frustrating.

Big difference between the 2.

Saw it again. Still love it. Oddly enough, I actually connected a little more with Brody and Elle this time around.

Anyway, yeah. Merch must be bought.

As did I, last night in fact and I enjoyed it more on the second viewing.

OUCH!

In second place, Godzilla plummeted 77 percent to $8.8 million. That's a horrible drop on par with notoriously front-loaded movies like Cloverfield (76 percent) and Ang Lee's Hulk (77 percent). For the four-day weekend, Godzilla could earn less than $40 million.

Must be something in the water with this thread. Mismatched expectations or not, mentioning Michael Bay at all is just over-the-top. The movie was nowhere near bad enough for that kind of talk -- and trust me, it would have been if Bay was attached.

No Way to Bay!!!

But there is understandable frustration just watch this

and then these empire covers which gave us our first good look at Godzilla

The more I think about it the more frustrated I get with the studio and the filmmakers....

The advertised a much different film and those Empire mag covers lead you to believe it is a much different film.... more in line with the trailers.

Very frustrating that we were promised a apocalyptic Godzilla film (like the original 54 film) and we get a much different film then that..

Off the top of my head I can't think of another film that has done that to that degree in their advertising.

I am sure I might enjoy the film better the 2nd time... But there is still a lot of room for improvement. And the ultimate American Godzilla film has yet to have been made...

There was some pretty apocalyptic stuff in there, though. The destroyed quarantine zone in Japan, the tsunami in Hawaii, the battlefield of San Francisco (shrouded in clouds and fire). Granted, the Mutos played the role of the harbingers of death, but the whole conspiracy/cover-up/we're-so-screwed vibe remained intact.

I won't lie, I did hope the movie was more about the mystery surrounding Godzilla himself, but what they ended up doing (making him out to be a hero of sorts) was still in-line with the Japanese films so I was happy. Bait-and-switch or not, at least it wasn't a complete 180 like with Gino. I don't even know where they got the concept for his role. :slap

See I never saw them as "harbingers of death" they were just animals... They basically knocked over buildings by mistake. I never once got the vibe that I got from the trailers.

Even the tsunami felt more like an afterthought.... You never felt he weight of the loss these creatures might bring. Add to the fact that fought in a deserted San Fran where the power was out... you could have just had the fight take place in the Grand Canyons.

Hell even your Sig. misleads LOL.... :)

Like I said I hope to enjoy it more now that I know what to really expect... I just find in F'ed up how they advertised this film. Without seeing the film again I am left with the feeling of disappointment... With the drop off at the box office It looks like I better hurry if I want to get a second chance to see it in the theaters.

As far as GINO goes... Well those A holes that made that film had no desire to make a Godzilla film.... They were not fans and they just basically used the name of the title character and that was it.... I still remember, before that movie was released, reading articles by those guys bragging about how their Godzilla can out run the army.... Blah...

:yess:

You should see me, i'm on Godzilla overdose!

Buying Godzilla movies, marathon movie watching and buying expensive Godzilla toys! :lol

My wife is stressing!
