I'd love to see some pictures of your Boromir. Can you post some? I'm curious to see how your hair treatment looks.

I'll try to take & post some pics this weekend.

I'm currently repainting Strider - my first SS repaint. I will *hopefully* get one of hunky's awesome Legolas heads to paint which means I'll have to repaint Boromir to match so eventually I'll have to redo the hair bendy thing anyways.

So I just got my Legolas today. I dropped my preorder for him and Faramir and thought I had canceled Boromir, but in fact had not, and now I'm sooooo glad.

I got my exclusive Legolas off Ebay, and at a decent price, and I must say the LOTR's are kicking SW's butt right now. Legolas and Boromir are the two best SS figures I own. I think I'll try and talk my lovely wife into watching The Fellowship tonight.

And if I had to pick a fav, I actually like Legolas... that is slightly better. :D

Getting these figs has totally rekindled my love for LOTR too. Every night this week me and my boys watched the LOTR. It was great. Now I just gotta get the Silmalarion on book on tape so I can listen to it while I work.

That's a great idea. I think the whole SW thang has had me in a lull. These figures are kinda magical in that they bring the story back to life as you think back to the movies and novels.

With the SW figs lately, I've been kinda dissapointed, that is with character choices. But his line is soooo awesome, with the detail they put into these, I cant believe I cancelled these to fund Jabba. Shame on me shame.

i totally agree. i even bought a WETA Sauron because he's in 1/6 scale and have him posed with Legolas and Boromir(still waiting on the Aragorn Excl to convert).

I'm still waiting too, doesn't it seem like forever? My Jabba converted in like a week, but with Aragorn months pass and nuthin. Please SS take my money!!! :lol

ok, these are the first 'finished' photos off the press (I just got it finished within the last hour, i'm not too happy with the paintjob, could be smoother, but I've got too many other things to get on with so it'll have to do for now). I've not done anything with the clothing yet (I foresee a major retailoring...urgh) hence I've not fully dressed him or put any of his accessories on

anyway, enjoy. (I'll be putting more up during the next couple of days on my blog)

Yeah what he said. Absolutely stunning work, a masterpiece. I can't believe how dead on it looks like a young Orlando, even his expression captures Legolas's essence, superb work.

Fantastic work, Hunky! Looks so much more like Orlando, esp. that last picture with Aragorn in the background. :legolas :legolas :legolas

I knew you'd hit this one out of the park, Darren! I stole a peek at your blog this morning and found even the unfinished work to be astounding! (Are you bored yet from all the accolades? :lol )

I'll be PM'ing you a confirmation of my commission request. One elf with a side of ranger to go, please!

As always, my friend, truly amazing artistry...

That shot with Aragorn in the background... WOW. It could pass as a film still, I know I did a double take. I need to get this one too along with Obi and 2 Anakins :lol You are going to make me go broke!

What can I say that hasn't already been said, Darren? Simply amazing. I can hardly wait till I have my very own to enjoy. Thanks again for all your hard work!!!

You guys are way, way too kind. I'm reasonably happy with this, it certainly looks more like Orlando standing on my shelf now next to Aragorn (I'll take some pics of the two of them at some point later on in the week maybe)

In the meantime here's a few more pics. These are quite close and brutal so will probably show the paint job that I'm not that happy with. Occasionally you can see vertical brush marks from when I was painting the skin colours on. I was rushing the job though as I've got so much other stuff to get on with, but it's good enough for me (and I can only see it when i go super close to it anyway)

The pics below show which parts of the face I resculpted/changed. I'll try to remember what I did

  • resculpted the curvature of the forehead and raised the hairline
  • added extra hair details to the sides where the braiding starts
  • cut off his eyebrows and resculpted them from scratch
  • carefully opening up his eyes slightly, in order to lose that 'sleepy' downward slope they have on the top lids
  • changed the shape and size of his nose (only slightly on the front)
  • filled in the scowl, and gave a more gentle, concentrated look (this can now be used as either peaceful Legolas or concentrating about to fire Legolas
  • resculpted his nostils
  • changed the shape of his upper lip
  • opened his mouth
  • resculpted a new lower lip from scratch
  • changed the shape of his cheekbones and cheeks
  • made his jawline the correct shape by his ears
  • changed the size and shape of his chin
  • made his neck underneath match the new chin/jawline
  • cut his ears off from the back, until the were barely hanging on at the front. Removed some material from behind them, then glued the ears back on closer to his head
  • added some falling hair behind his ears, to make the hair seem more natural

I think that was it..... pretty much anyway.

What do you have next for us?

Any chance of resculpting a Brandon Routh Superman head for our Hot Toys figures?
