Meh, pass. Patiently waiting for Orcs, Uruks, Treebeard, Easterling, etc.....

I just don't ever see a treebeard LSB happening. The Weta version is amazing [IMO the best bust they ever produced] and at almost 18" high it is already in essence a LSB. Since all the LSB's so far have been significantly larger than their Weta counterparts it would have to be massive, not to mention it would cost a fortune. I just don't see too many people who already own the Weta version jumping on this one, I know I certainly won't be.

Well, not everybody has the WETA Treebeard and it is a character that's suited for the LSB line. If Sideshow can duplicate characters we already have in other lines, then they can certainly do so with Treebeard. Question is, will they.

I would pass on TB still. Just never was into the character enough to get him in any form. I like him well enough in the movie (though his parts are slow) but not enough as I said.

I find myself going back and forth right now with the thought they might do all 9 members in this form. That might make me get this piece to go along with the GTG I shall be adding to my collection shortly.

a legolas bust would officially confirm the gayness of it's owner! :lol

I still have a wait list request for the Treebeard bust in my account. It was never closed and cancelled like all the other old Weta pieces I had wait list requests in for.

And I think that most of the people ordering Legolas next week will be heterosexuals, not that it matters.

:D

I would love to get a Treebeard LSB just because I never had a chance to get the Weta version, which I agree with being the best of their entire line. As for Legolas, I'll order it as long as the likeness is good.

A treebeard LSB would be huge!! It be as big if not bigger than the sauron LSB and that in itself would be pretty impressive.

While it is very true that not everyone has the Weta version, and that it is suited for the LSB line, do you not consider the 18" Weta version already in the category [size wise] of the LSB line. It certainly isn't 1/4 scale like the rest of the Weta busts. I'm not sure how the licencing agreements work but I'm pretty sure SS's bust's have to be significantly different from the one's they did with Weta. Seeing how much larger the LSB's are compared to the Weta busts so far I would think a SS treebeard LSB would have to be somewhere in the 30"-36" high range for it not to infringe on the previous Weta line, and I just don't see that happening.

Indeed! But I can't imagine it being any bigger than the Balrog LSB. I can just imagine all three huge LSBs (Sauron, Balrog and Treebeard) side by side. Now that would make an impressive collection.

I'm pretty sure it is 1/4 scale. At least it's supposed to be part of the 1/4 scale bust line.

Yes, but the cave troll and balrog statue's were supposed to be part of the 1/6 scale line and they certainly are not 1/6 scale. I did check with all the remaining Weta busts I have and all of them are advertised [on the box] as1/4 scale polystone bust's. My treebeard is not, it is simply listed as a limited edition polystone bust. I don't know how large treebeard's head was supposed to be in the movie's but if the Weta bust is 1/4 scale then that would make his head about 5' tall from the top of his head to the bottom of his beard, and that just seems too small to me.

I thought the Cave Troll was advertised as 1/6 scale as well? Does the Cave Troll box not say 1/6th?

I thought it did, I was going to check when I got home. Hmmm, interesting.

Well according to this pic and the fact that merry is supposedly 3.5' then i would guess treebeard's head would be about 4-4.5'. According to SS website the TB bust is about 17" which would then make it roughly 1/3 scale if is head is 4-4.5'.

Just you wait until they announce a Faramir Legendary Scale Bust. Then you'll be singing a different tune, my friend!

;)

I very well may like it, but I generally don't care about busts. I mean, they're so static and uptight, and there's nothing to pose or play with, and they don't show the whole costume. I would like it because it's Faramir, but it would take a lot more to make me spend that much money on something I can't even play with. I like my toys to be toys, not statuary.

Yes, the bust is about 17" tall but that is from the top of trrebeard's head to the bottom of the base. You have to subtract several inches [the gap between the bottom of treebeard's beard and the top of the base] to get the actual height of the head itself...which is somewhere between 14"-15" I believe. This would make his head somewhere between 4.5'-5' tall. I guess it could be 1/4 scale though is doesn't look like it to me.

Oh, I agree, I like toys as well (much to my sweet wife's chagrin ;)), but I don't consider the busts, PFs and Weta pieces as toys, I consider them works of art.

The Cave Troll and Daddy Balrog statues were never supposed to be a part of the sixth-scale statue line.

Whatever gave you that idea? :D

Seriously, they're in the minibeast statue line -- along with the Watcher, the Fell Beast, Shelob, and the Mumak. This line was never supposed to have a fixed scale, but provide the dimensions that worked best for the particular creature design. Both the Balrog and the Troll proved to be so successful that Weta later sculpted a new Balrog and a new Troll in slightly reduced dimensions, but this just highlights the versatility of the minibeast line.

The same principle goes for the environment line.

So, Woodsy, you see: the next time you have an assumption about the scale of a particular Sideshow/Weta line -- do check it with me first.

;)
