Just saw this tonight. I had heard so many good things that my expectations were through the roof. Some great scenes but I was never really gripped and feel that the film didn't really go anywhere. 6/10

Just watched this on DVD, thankfully our local version had the theatrical subtitles and not the simplified ones.
Seriously, I would choose this film over Twilight.
Sure it does not have overly handsome or charming Vampires (I still don't think Robert Pattinson is handsome), no over the top effects or action sequences.

This is a film where the story matters more & that is what sets itself apart from other Vampire movies. Definitely not your usual vampire flick,
the film is about bullying, growing up & more importantly Love.

NOTE: Not recommended for ppl who constantly needs action sequences or the constant need for hot hunks & babes, in order to find a film entertaining. Also, this is a Swedish film, if you can't find the subtitle button or know how to activate subtitles on your dvd player, pls don't watch it.

I'm going to look for the novel it was based on as well, since they removed certain parts in the novel for the movie. Oh & they are going to do a US remake..........I hope Hollywood don't screw it up....

exactly :clap it just didn't pick up. It was so damn uneventful IMO. I was very disapointed in it.

Finally watched this film last night and though I liked the film I was a little disappointed with aspects left in and cut out for film treatment (when comparing to the book)...

The omission of Eli's back story and Hakan being turned into a vampire was unfortunate. If a storyline had to be cut I really think Virginia and friends should have gotten the axe (it makes the most sense to me).

Oskar really should have been shown being bullied more IMO. Just one other scene would have done the trick and made a better build-up to the bullies ultimate fates in the pool scene.

Overall, as I said I liked the film. It's just too bad that certain aspects of the original source material were left out entirely as I believe it could have made for a more compelling film (at least from my viewpoint).

I liked it. I would put other vamp films ahead of this. Actually I'm not entirely convinced this was even a vampire movie. :lol

But that said I enjoyed it. Would give it a 6.5 out of 10.

Thought their language was pretty cool. :rock

Now that Twilight movie on the other hand...

Just kidding!
:D

Well I must say people call Twilight gay. As a matter of fact some who have said this movie is one of the best vamp movies ever had made this bold statement. Little do they know that "Let the Right One In" could be considered a gay love movie IMO. I don't think Eli was a girl. I have been thinking all night about why they show her naughty parts the way they did. Also Eli told Oskar several times she was not a girl. I just thought she meant that she was a vamp and not a girl. I actually think she was a boy that had IT cut off. SOOOO.....Let the Right One In is actually a gay love story. What say you now? :lol

That said the little girl that plays Eli may be a hottie when she grows up. She kinda looks like Tonks from Harry Potter. :lecture

Que The Crying Game music.......Just found this off of Amazon.

Editorial Reviews
From Publishers Weekly
Swedish author Lindqvist's debut, a horror novel, offers few twists that won't already be familiar to readers of modern vampire fiction. Oskar, a much bullied 12-year-old schoolboy living in a Stockholm suburb, notices that his next-door neighbor, Eli, has some peculiar traits: Eli only comes out at night, smells like death warmed over and is of ambiguous gender. Eventually, Eli reveals he's a vampire who survives by feeding off the neighborhood lowlifes.

To be fair, you need to read the book man.

Yes, Eli was Elias, a peasant boy who had his junk cut off and was turned into a vampire.

But, I think you're missing the point of the whole movie, and focusing on a cut off stick :duh

:horror What are you talking about?
I was referring to quality... not gayness...

Still way better than Twilight...
:D
:peace

That of course is an opinion. I found Twilight more entertaining to be quite honest. This was more of a thinking movie. That's totally fine too. I enjoyed them both either way.

Why is Twilight being talked about more in the Let the Right One In thread and LTROI is being talked more in the Twilight thread?

The bigger question though is, what in these two movies makes it so that when one is mentioned, the other is inevitably brought up? I've seen both and I really don't see any similarity at all.

It'd be like going into the Watchmen thread to talk about Terminator. I don't get it. :dunno

That would be BadMoon's fault... he brought it up here...:gun:rotfl

No I didn't....Other ****** pickles came in and started making the comparision. As Kobuki said though. It really is a pointless argument. You can't compare the two.

So how about that Watchmen movie? :lol
