its funny. you go into a bar and act the same you will catch a swift beating. so we dont teach our kids from the get that they will be hit? they grow up all their lives never feeling that physical contact. they mouth off and get punched and actually get mad at the other person and say "what the ****, why did you hit me?". they have absolutely no clue because they never had to respect someone and think everyone is a pushover. great lesson, i see these morons all the time. i dont hang with people like that i disregard them and their whole genealogy. im not speaking of boudary testing toddlers, im talking about the real horror show kids that are older.

I got the piss beaten out of me by my mom and uncle more times than i can count. Belts, kitchen items, closed fist punches with rings, kneeling on ice cube trays, ect. Im not lying when i tell you guys any of this and it made me respect people a lot more and have better manners. I was a horrible kid and now im a great person. If you have no fear at all you have no capability to feel remorse or sorrow. I KNEW when i "Fd" up it was going to be very bad. Eventually it smartened me up. I dont want to deal the beatings that i got but theres absolutely no question that it is a necessary tool. Remember when you first touched the stove? I bet youd never do it again.

ive had long discussions with my mother and our relationship is good now. my uncle actually was like my dad and taught me everything i know about building, cars, and small engine vehicles. it was love/hate with him. they both said they didnt realize how bad they were to me and my brother. im cool with them now but my mom tries too hard now and as for my uncle, we hardly ever talk to eachother anymore. my family is a bunch of angry, self hating/centerd losers for the most part. im the only normal one it seems. im 33, no i dont have a child, but, i know full well what not to do and how not to handle situations. i think id be an excellent dad. i think my opinion matters in this conversation based on my upbringing, despite my lack of having a child.

i think people should understand there is a BIG difference between physical child abuse and disciplining your child. some like to bunch the two together.

I was mostly spanked, I don't remember getting any privileges taken away.

Correct. Parents could be liberal with their punishing of their children, meaning they do it very strongly and regularly.
Liberal also means generous.

It's like putting a liberal amount of peanut butter on your bread, which means you really slather it on.
A conservative amount of something would be a small amount.
A light coat of peanut butter would be a conservative amount.

In that vein, in what way are said parents being liberal?

Liberal privileges or liberal punishment?
