We've been discussing 1:1 Dinos in the Dinosauria topics so I figured I might as well revive this thread.

Shane Foulkes 1:1 Sub-adult Psittacosaurus in progress :

Those raptors look great.:horror

Shane's Psittacosaurus is looking to be a great piece, and it will be mine. I really want to see his Velociraptor in a finished form. I like it so far, except that the pose looks a little static. I guess Shane could always tweak any given buildup, if one were to request it. ;)

Oh yeah..you've seen how Garrett altered that Suchomimus, I've seen several other mods of existing kits before. Resin can be moved a bit if you use a heat gun to warm it first as well...so I'm sure if your getting a build up it can be changed a bit.

If the Czerkas's would sell one of theirs for the same price as Oxmox or around there it just might be worth it. I can't find any contact info for them though to even ask.

If I were to get a 1/1 piece I would really prefer it was coated to withstand outdoor conditions...at least during summer which is when I would display it in my " Park ".. ;)

I don't mind taking my statues outside for a photoshoot, but i'd never leave them outside. Too many things could go wrong.:( I guess if I could ever get hold of a CMStudio Parasaurolophus , i'd have to keep it outside. That is, unless I built an enclosure just for that statue. :rotfl

Speaking of Garrett buildups, he did a great job on Shane's Iquanadon vs Eotyrannus diorama. He was able to tweak the Iquanadon enough, so that it actually looks threatened. Originally, it didn't look like it cared that a big chunk had been taken out of its hide. :lol

I know ! That was my orig complaint as well.. lol The Iguanadon was there being eaten and not seeming to mind at all..heh heh Might have been best to thin that one out of the population.. ;D

I've been building and maintaining my own " Jurassic Park " on one side of the house. I kept seeing all those garden exhibits with dinos and it really made want to create my own little version...but even 4-6' dinos are quite expensive.

Some examples of those gardens :

Man o man I want one of those trex head so bad! Shipping will be killer though, I think I will start of with the dio first, have been wanting for over a year now.

Those look awesome Blade. I wonder how long the colors stay vibrant.

As far as prices go, I think it depends on the company, and not so much the size. Some companies seem to charge way more than a products worth, just because they can. Some prices don't even make sense sometimes. Take Taylor Made Fossils for instance. On their website, a Diplodocus infant skull costs more than an adult skull.:dunno They also have a 1/1 Tyrannosaurus fleshed out bust for a ridiculous amount, and the thing doesn't look like it's worth $100.:dunno

Blade, didn't you say that CMStudio never got back to you on prices for their 1/1 pieces? I'd really like to know how much their stuff costs, even if I can't afford them. :lol

The Syntarsus in the 2nd pic was sculpted by Keith Strasser : https://www.gorbs.com/strasser/index.cfm

I'd love have it outside or his 1/1 Dimetrodon...just beautiful pieces :

dimet2.jpg

I've no idea..I'm sure they require re-coating every so many years and prob re-painting as well...even cleaning...hence my desire to stick with pieces I can see over..lol

Oh yeah, Taylor made is beat by guys who sell the same models on eBay... lol

https://www.angelfire.com/mi/dinosaurs/dinosaurs_statues.html

Some of those pieces are asian made but I do like the smaller Brachio statue. The asian Allosaurs are junk for the price though..sad to say.

It seems as though they also have some CM Studio sculpts..but again..wow..on price y'know ?

Yeah I was emailing back and forth about their pieces and when we got to prices they didn't email back. I was looking for under 1,000.00 maybe that was too cheap for them ? But I know a Compy or some other small piece should easily be under that.

Taylor's Ceolophysis which looks like a CM piece..is almost 9,000.00 while the Proto is about 8,000.00 WAY too much I think.

That big T-Rex head I think is modeled after the Sinclair World's Fair piece...I'd see 2-300.00 for that..but it's not modern at all.

I talked for a long with Galileo today. He said he's about ready to finish a 1/1 JP3 Raptor bust and I'm dying to jump on it. He also mentioned he's doing a 1/4 / 1/3 JP3 full body raptor as well...pretty sweet stuff..he said he will build and paint for a pretty reasonable price as well..like Dinosauria prices...not bad at all.

Why the hell, did you have to post that link? I already have enough wants when it comes to Dinosaurs, and now you've helped me add even more. I had no idea alot of these even existed.

I guess I have to thank you aswell, for you helped me finally find the Lambeosaur statue i've wanted for some time.:1-1: It's not the bronze diorama version that I had seen, but i'd much rather have a painted kit. They've also got one beautiful Amargasaurus, Ouranosaurus, and the only Diplodocus statue i've ever seen. The finishing services on their website are insane. I'd definately have to get someone else to finish any of these kits. I hate how you have to contact them for alot of their pieces. I might aswell call them up and ask for pricing on every piece they have, except for their 1/4 Tyrannosaurus Rex that they don't offer. I hate when people put up pics of stuff they never intend to offer.

Btw, how the hell is that Syntarsus staying up?:horror It must be pretty light, because there's not much supporting it.

Hm, I didn't know there was more than one version of Strasser's Syntarsus - the vividly colored version on his website is the same one I get to see whenever I visit the Virginia Living Museum. They've currently lodged it between the double-helix stairs.

Are you going to finish the bust yourself, Blade?

Dan, does the Virginia Living Museum have a large Dinosaur exhibit, or is it just a few pieces here and there? Wondering if I should make a trip up there.

Blade, does Galileo have a website where I could see some of his work?

It's meant to showcase extant species for the most part. Great aquarium section, and a massive outdoor trail with plenty to see.

As far as extinct species go, it's pretty barebones. The Syntarsus statue, the Coelophysis in matrix replica (classic), and a trackway display... that's about it. On the plus side, they do host the annual animatronic dinosaur exhibit, which was recently revamped by a Japanese robotics company.

Galileo's website is geenemodels.com. You might notice his ads in many recent issues of PT.

Thanks for the info Dan. I think i'll pass for now. It might be nice to visit when the animatronic diplay comes back.

Sorry about the confusion with Galileo. I knew about Geene models, but wasn't putting the two together. :lol His JP 1/8 Tyrannosaurus would be a nice piece to own. It looks a little static to me, but i'm sure a little tweaking could fix that. I'd say if I were to own one statue to represent Jurassic Park in my collection, that'd be it.

lol..you know what they say...nothing helps a bad mood like spreading it around..heh heh yeah, I'm EVIL. ;D

Seriously, glad you found something you've been looking for . Keith does have a great Diplodocus..almost makes me want to skip out on the Sideshow Apatosaurus. ;)

I would ask Keith about how much he would charge..thoseprices might be out of date or something. I contacted him about the 1/4 Rex last year, it's a really old piece. He made it for another company and I believe they went under. So it's more just showing what he can do.

Just my guess..but the Syntarsus probably has a piece of steel running from the point it's tail touches the ground and running into it's body.

Dan, I can't believe you haven't offered to buy it from them yet..lol Yeah I'm considering just having him install the eyes and I'll paint it..but his pricing isn't too bad all things considered. He offered to do the Acro for me for 400.00 or his 1/1 Compy for 300.00, not bad..but that is a load of dough for me.. lol

Your going to be in the same boat as me Dan when Jeremy checks out Galileo's site... heh heh

Galileo posted pics on his FB page showing the new JP Spino he finished.

He also said he was done with 1/40 Dinos and all new pieces will be 1/35, and he mentioned that he was almost done with a new T-Rex VS Edmontosaurus piece. I didn't know til I talked with him but he was going to be involved with the Dinosauria line originally, but it didn't work out. I had actually suggested to Adrian and Pablo he be involved..I didn't know he had already tried.

You mean Kokoro ? They 've been in the animatronic dino game for a long time. Dinamation orig had the U.S. market covered until they went out of business.

I'll give him a buzz and see what he charges at the moment. I know that Steve charged me about $300 to do the buildup on my Stegosaurus, but he's a different artist. They all have different price points I guess.

Do you have a pic of Keith's Compy? I couldn't find it on his site.

Yeah they do, Shane told me that to have Steve build up either his Acro or the Mosasaur would be 225-350.00 on top of the kit. So 400+-600.00 or so...ouch.

I was referring to Galileo's 1/1 Compy since Dan mentioned the bust of the JP3 Velociraptor I was talking about him doing .

Someone did a Compy for Saurian Studios back in the day...could have been Strasser...might have been Jerry Finney (sp?)
