Yeah, i've seen the Compy from Geene Models. Looks pretty cool. It'd be nice to have a small group of them in my room. :D

I sent an email to Keith last night, requesting buildup quotes, so hopefully i'll hear back from him soon.

I tell you, it's a double edged sword, having so many great paleo artists out there.:(:rotfl:(

Oh yeah, I mean as soon as you decide on something some new piece or artist shows up.

That was my thought for the Compys when I ordered some from Josh, each a bit different to have a pack of them, but it looks like I won't be getting them and I wasted 200.00 .

What do you mean you wasted $200? Have you already bought the kits?

I paid Josh Hoover, that kid that made Jurassic Park replicas. 200.00 for Compys he made last January..so far I've received zip. So as of now it was 200.00 wasted.

This is what they looked like :

So if I finally want a 1/1 Compy I'll have to go to Galileo..much better guy.

Sorry to hear you got screwed on that deal. I happen to think Galileo's Compy is much better anyway. ;) I think that rod would drive me crazy. :lol

Btw, i'm thinking about building my own prehistoric environment. Something to use for picture taking, rather than try and use forced perspective and high angles. I'll be making more than one, since i'll need different scale environments for different scale Dinosaurs.

I'm currently reading through my issues of Prehistoric Times, so that I can get some tips on making a good environment. ;)

They were going to be for outdoor use amongst my ferns so if I painted the rod black no problem. ;)

There is a book..Model Dinosaurs that might help :
https://www.amazon.com/Building-Painting-Model-Dinosaurs-models/dp/0890242704

And Link and Pin Hobbies carries a lot of prehistoric plant replicas : https://linkandpinhobbies.com/Dinopric.htm#dinomodels Scroll down to Diorama Helpers .

Safari is coming with some prehistoric tree replicas as well :

You may also go to a store like Petsmart or try walmart's pet section, they carry some nice pieces for reptile cages and aquariums that could work well . I've seen moss covered trees and broken logs that would work well in the right scaled dio.

Thanks for the links, Blade. I found an awesome site called Woodland Scenics. They have some great stuff. Mostly parts for people building railroads, but they have some things I might be able to use. ;)

I also need to get ahold of some ferns to use for any 1:1 statues. There aren't many around where I live. :(

You mean artificial or real ? Our woods have lots of live specimens I've transplanted around the house..our native species require damp, shady conditions with filtered light and lots of rotting vegetation.

I've found nice faux ones at walmart for decent prices and some smaller ones at Micheals craft store.

I was talking about real Ferns. I plan on getting some planted in my backyard. It's actually an ideal place to plant them, there just aren't any around, yet. ;)

Well then you def want to with native, not those tropical ones you see everywhere that need to be moved indoors..though they look really nice and full.

I would just take a trip and gather some...best time to do it is in Spring..though with really good care you can transplant well into summer. You can prep the site with really loose soil, old ashes over that..ferns love them as long as they are cold, then put down a nice thick layer of mulch.

When you do go take a BIG spade-like shovel and buckets, dig the fern in a circle and take it's surrounding soil with it. Place one fern per bucket and don't crush them. If they do break just cut the broken ones off when you get home just below the break and the fern will regrow.

Just some things I've learned while doing my own garden. You could setup a small greenhouse and then use those tropical ferns for displays..you can move them into the greenhouse when it gets cold. ;)

Thanks for the tips Blade. I can't wait to have ferns littering the forest floor. :D

Do you have any tips on making different scale Conifer trees? I need Conifers that can cover 1/15, 1/20, 1/18, 1/35, and 1/72 scale. :D

Those were exactly what I was looking for, but the prices are way out of the range I was expecting. $150 for a 30" tree? No thank you sir.:lol

I'd be broke before I even made a cluster of trees.:lol

I know, they were excellent but pricey.

These : https://www.miniaturetree.com/viewproduct.asp

Are 10" and a 12 pack for 27.00

I've made some trees by taking larger branches, drilling out holes and inserting smaller branches then super gluing them. For foliage I just take green moss you would find at a walmart craft section and carefully pull them out in small clumps and threads. You can then put a small touch of hot glue on the spot you want to attach it to and go from there attaching where you want. You can see what some small examples on my Allo VS piece :

If you display these near a high out put bulb the dye in the moss will fade out to brown. So you might be forced to spray paint them.

^^^

That looks so much better than the original.:rock

That is my only nit with the Dino line, most of the environments are very bland.

I've been modifying the other bases just a bit..a little moss here some tiny faux ferns there..I think it really helps.

I've suggested to guys in charge we get a little plant life involved and hopefully more water features as well.

I told him he was just being mean hiding the head like that..lol

Maybe he can make his own Dinosauria-like line..I suggested if he made a base for both pieces it could really work out.

He told me if I buy one he will do it. He loves the idea of pre-painted pieces on bases..which is why he was going to work on Dinosauria in the first place.

It sounds awesome..but he SO much awesome stuff..I need a full time job..freelance artist doesn't make enough.

Anyone heard anything new on Shane's Psittacosaurus? I think I might email him, but I didn't want to flood him with emails, especially if one of you guys has found out something. I really don't want him to be distracted from his work. ;)
