Very cool. I have mixed feelings about Smile, a few really good songs but a few that are just plain stupid (such as Vega Tables).

To each his own. I think Vega-table achieves very well what it sets out to do... being silly and fun! (not to mention that production on it is very interesting) :D

Blast Tyrant - Clutch

Joe's Garage - Frank Zappa

Clutch - Clutch

Elephant Riders - Clutch

Rubber Soul - Beatles

One of the guys from Clutch was in our shop a while ago. He was buying some gear from us and wanted to check out our place. Not a fan of the music, but he was a pretty cool guy.

I like fun...but for me that particular song and the barnyard song kinda fall short. Some of the melodies buried in there are good, but the gimmicy stuff lose it for me a little. That said, I like some of the gimmicy stuff on songs from Pink Floyd, Kate Bush, Roger Waters, etc. So I guess these particulars just don't do it for me.

BTW: have you heard the Roger Waters' opera "Ca Ira"?

Not yet. I was going to buy it when it came out but I just couldn't bring myself to drop the dough. What did you think of it? (by the way I am a BBIIIGGG Roger Waters fan).

I like it. Its obviously a lot different from a rock album thats for sure, but I have respect for stuff ranging from classical to Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber as well. There are definatetly moments that I can see being from the mind behind The Wall and DSOTM.

I own a copy that is playable on CD and SACD, but I've never had the chance to play it on a SACD player.

I certainly don't play it as often as his other solo stuff but its good for when I need a switch. Great audio quality and recording techniques too.

Well I just ordered it from my library. I'll pick it up and check it out. Thanks for the recommend.

Cool beans. Ok give me a recommendation, but keep in mind I don't like punk or alternative or much "indy".

Through being Cool was a very neat album. I loved the second track and I also loved how the lyrics were for lack of better words morbid. The guy has such a talented yet twisted way of describing love and loneliness.

"Let me take this awkward saw
And run it against your thighs
Cut some flesh away
I'll carry this piece of you with me"

or

If I could somehow make you mine
And if not I'll take my rusty spoons
And dig out your blue eyes
I'll swallow them down to my colon
They're gonna burn like hell tonight
Because you're beautiful
Just not on the inside

or even

Today I can't forget that I've got these open wounds
It's such a drag
I can't forget you've gone
My ribs have parted ways
They said, "We're not going to protect this heart you have."

My recommendation to you..... What do you like?

What initially grabs me is something sonic or epic. Great sound. Too muddy or blurry guitars (like much of alternative) I don't like. I like keyboards alot. I like good melodies but with some complexity.

My favorite bands are Floyd, Jethro Tull, Yes, Kansas, Peter Gabriel, etc. I like eras and genres though from folk to metal. It just has to have really good melodies and be dramatic enough to "grab" me.

Try some Perpetual Groove.....Sweet Oblivious Antidote is a good album

Hell yeah :rock

Fantastic album. I've been to parties with these guys, very cool people.

This is honestly a very very difficult chore. There are just so many great albums out there and I am sure people will disagree with me especially the different generations because believe me there will be a gap.

So without further delay and listed in no particular order here are my favorite albums as of today.

Jack Johnson - Brushfire Fairytales.
(Just buy it trust me. If you are into relaxing music that has a point then this is for you!)

Bright Eyes- I'm Wide Awake and it's Morning.
(Great songwriting...great story telling....just awesome.)

Blink 182- Dude Ranch. (People can say what they want but this album paved the way for a whole generation of music. We are still seeing the influences of this album today by bands such as Panic! at the Disco and Fall Out Boy.)

Coldplay-Parachutes (Just close your eyes and listen. This album is a plane ticket to another place)

Sublime- 40oz to Freedom (This album needs no introduction or description, it's just excellent. One of Sublimes very best releases. Do yourself a favor and pick it up!)

I also wanted to add that the Grammys are a ****ing joke. It's just a popularity contest. People that don't even write their own songs or play any instruments win these awards. THESE MEAN ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!

Ok. My favorite folk album at the moment is Sean nos Nu by Sinead O'Connor. Great vocals. Her arrangements are quite good and the musicians she has working with her are excellent.

I agree. Bands like Rush only getting nominated for instrumental songs is lame.

The one year wonders (Ace of Base anyone?, Rihanna, etc) get all the awards and bands that will be remembered for decades like Pink Floyd get shut out.

It's such a sad unfortunate truth. A performer like Beyonce will win awards while Rock n' Roll greats are left out in the rain. I mean, if you don't write your own songs you are a musical puppet in my opinion. The writers and the musicians who actually play the instruments should be receiving these awards not the face that is just there to sell an album. Awards like these are missing the whole point. They are sullying what makes music so special. :monkey4
