Ah, c'mon. I originally was one of the folks that panned his being chosen for the role, but I was well wrong. He was phenomenal.

I always thought he was a good choice and I think he's the best thing about TDK. Not Oscar-worthy IMO, but it's not like I was nominated.

I think he deserved the win but I do believe he only got it because he died. I think the academy would have completely scoffed at the idea of giving an oscar to The Joker in ordinary circumstances.

Any Oscar winner is going to be good. I agree with you Zach and Ledger put on an amazing performance. But as I posted before, merit is only one factor in deciding on who is nominated for, or will win an Oscar. An untimely death could definitely tip the scale. How could reviewers not consider that, knowing that it would make for a nice, dramatic moment on TV where people could honor his short legacy in films or whatever.

I can imagine him winning even if he didn't die. But I wouldn't have bet on it.
