I don't think that's official though. It's just a rumor or an assumption, but I don't think TDK can get the credit for that, since movies like LOTR won for best picture. Logan has an official nomination in a category that no other superhero film has been recognized before, so IMO, official nomination >>> TDK rumor.

Besides, even it were true that the increase of best movie nominations was as a reaction to TDK, it still had no impact on the genre, since no superhero film has been nominated for best picture. TDK has accomplished nothing in that regard. Logan's nomination might be a big step moving forward for other cape films getting nominations outside of the technical categories.

This.

Logan demonstrates that if you make a film that's truly meaningful and transcendent the Academy won't be able to ignore it - thus making the genre that brings comic book superheroes to life no longer a segregated and inferior genre.

It's a massive win and also a punch to the face to anyone who defends the MCU's mediocrity by citing "Marvel Studios films are supposed to be silly and fun and not serious at all because they're based on the comics", an argument that was always dumb but is now officially dumb.

You must be too young to remember, The Dark Knight already did that. :lol

That's outside of things that matter tho.
Without BLADE and X-Men you wouldn't have WB bein' open to gritty modern take on Batman.

Nope. Like the poster I quoted earlier [and myself] cited - TDK only received Technical Nominations.

Story is where the respect and acknowledgement comes from. Not Technical categories.

And BB/TDK wouldn't exist without BLADE and X-Men.

Half of it is great. The other half is mediocre as ****.

Now if you really want to get deep into it. It wouldn’t of happened if batman and robin was a successful movie. We would have batman triumphant.

What a scary thought. If Forever and that were hugely successful, we would of had Wolverine nipples all these years.

Incorrect. Ledger won for Best Supporting Actor.

Yes, but again, that's not a recognition of story but rather of acting prowess (and in Ledger's case career prowess).

I was worried Jackman and Stewart would get Nominations but not the film.

Oscars don't mean ****.

It really depends on what narrative you're going with. The Last Jedi gets four Oscar nominations, but that movie is the worst pile of **** ever put to film, so the Academy is out of touch with reality and a bunch of hacks. Logan gets one nomination, but it's not for a technical award, so while revealing their true level of intelligence and appreciation for the craft, the Academy rightfully recognizes Logan's utter brilliance and sets a new standard for all comic book movies to strive for. OK.

Yep, just like rottentomatoes the Academy is either the "official" recognition of greatness or irrelevant nonsense depending on each person's personal preferences, lol.

The only narrative from my perspective is that the Oscars have never focused nominees or awards based on merit. If not for all the METOO stuff, James Franco would no doubt be up for best actor. Guys get awards because it is perceived to be their turn, not because of ability or the film itself. Studios put out full page ads to lobby the voters.

Of course, you're going to get some good movies in the mix, but it's rare that the awards go where they deserve.

Well, don't blame The Academy for the Franco snub. Franco's [bull****] harassment accusations cost him the Nomination.
