Dang.. Well, it might be time for Sideshow to change their business model and offer more than 750 or 1000 so this type of thing is put off. People are buying these recasts because they can't get the real things for decent prices anymore.. Sideshow would make more money in the long run and people wouldn't go running to buy a recast if a line sell's out. It doesn't help that some of these casts get sold after the runs are complete since all of these items are produced in China. It is hard to police that sort of thing from the US. How many Hulk Spidey recasts that are dead on exist? That should have been a much higher number for Sideshow as they would have made a lot more money..

When it comes to the molds, SS really needs to be more proactive about keeping these out of the wrong peoples hands. You would think that they would keep good track of the molds, seeing how they cost a fortune to produce.

It's not really that easy though. If the recasters get access to an existing statue, they can make a perfect mold.

I disagree, with the open ES on the SS endo, its still very easy to get them at retail or lower, ppl just want crazy ass bargains these days.

Here's something I stumbled upon while searching for LotR SS/WETA pieces. This may completely legit, but the pic of the Sideshow shipping carton says "Balrong", which might have been misprinted on the original carton... or not. Anybody else find this a little odd?

I cant be a 100% sure, but I've got a feeling that is a fake.
1-its from china, were most of these re-casts come out of.
2-its an artist proof, this makes it even easier for the recasters
because they dont have to number the statue.
3-what you have already mentioned, the miss spelling on the shipper box.

Yeah, the "no number" claim struck me as a little too convenient as well. And it really wouldn't be too hard to fake a shipping carton label... not in China, anyways.

It would be very interesting to see if anybody on the board who happens to own an original Balrog could verify the spelling on the original shipping carton. I'd almost be willing to bet real money that it doesn't say Balrong!

A real one would have a shipping box that says Balrong. That doesn't mean it's not a fake though.
