I'm waiting for the Extended Editions as well.....

I cut WAY back on my Blu-ray purchases.

EE or nothing for me.

:lecture:lecture:lecture

they have no excuse to release the EE later except for double dipping
after the hobbit is released m thoy will probably do another edition with both cuts of the trilogy
i like the movies but for the $ 150 that all the versions will cost i would rather buy me something nice from sideshow

EE or bust!

I have several versions of the trilogy on DVD and I am not making that mistake again, although the BD trailer is getting me excited! :rock

Meh.
I agree with everyone on here. I can't watch the Theatrical anymore. I just keep them for the extras.
Sorry Peter Lucas, I will pass on this and wait for the Extended editions

thing is, is that for us it seems like double dipping because most of us are wanting the extended versions (me too) but you have to remember that for some non-geeky 'normal' people, these films are already too long as it is. A lot of people hate anything over 2 hours... so this will be the versions some people will 'choose' to buy.

It'd be nice (for us) if they released them both at the same time, obviously. But some people WILL buy these just because they can't wait another year for the extendeds... so I guess the studios are gonna do it this way if they can get more money from it.

I do see your point, it just sucks that we have to wait even longer .
I'm hoping for a collectible to come with the EE Blu-Ray, when ever that is.

I'm actually glad they're doing this. I still contend that the Theatrical cut of FELLOWSHIP is a superior film, so I want that version on Blu-ray for sure.

The other two (especially TWO TOWERS)... well, that's another story.

The obvious plan to double-dip is pretty lame, though. But we should all be used to this by now.

The only thing I like in the theatrical cut of Fellowship over the EE is the transition to Hobbiton from the prologue. In the extended edition, the music just doesn't work as well.

I'm just the opposite (somewhat). The additions (as a lover of the books) in the EE of Fellowship were much needed and enhanced the story so much more and for myself I just cannot see myself ever watching the theatrical version.

The Two Towers suffered even worse in the theatrical version, so I found the EE to add in many necessary things which made for a much more enjoyable watch. The Return of the King however was the worst of the EE IMO. Save a couple of additions (Sam seeing the star and the houses of healing sequence for example), the rest were just really bad add ons (I mean really, we didn't need even more scenes that show Gimli as the crass dwarf and the Legolas drinking stuff...it's like some things had to be thrown in just because they wanted to add in as much as possible).

I adore the LOTR films, but sometimes I just scratch my head and wonder why the filmmakers decided some things.

Well at least we didn't have to suffer through Arwen at Helm's Deep, or Aragorn fighting Sauron! :horror

Oh the uproar that the Arwen at Helm's deep caused before 'The Two Towers' was released. I remember it well. Seeing her in some background shots in the film still cracks me up.

The Aragorn/Sauron fight was an interesting concept, but thankfully that was left out.

when can you see her?

when can you see her?

There are various shots of her in the background fighting (I want to say 2 to 3). Just look for someone in a more reddish outfit during the entire outside battle sequences and you'll see her (it had a similar look to her gray riding outfit just in a different color).

I didn't know that, I'll have to check that out.

If the studios were smart, they'd release these as soon as possible. There will be some that can't wait that long for the EEs, and the sooner they release these, the more money they'll make. If they wait too long, more people will wait.

If these have alot of extras that aren't on any of the DVD issues, I'll probably fall for it. Damn me! :(
