I'm waiting for the EE's myself. As far as marathons go, I make a habit of watching the LOTR trilogy every Thanksgiving, but over a three day period at least. I am looking forward to the six film marathon of Star Wars at CV with all the other faithful, if I can make it to Orlando this year.

I prefer to watch them over the winter months, myself. I guess it's because they were released in the theater during December.

Ok, I'm with Red. Make 'em 20 hours long and same for the "extras" discs.... ;)

I'm signed up for email from Warner's and this is the picture of the blu-ray box for LotR. When I went to the site, it looks like what Amazon or other are showing. :huh

I'm having a few people over on Saturday to watch the entire trilogy (over 11 hours :horror). I've been wanting to do this for a long time!

No way I'm waiting for this blueray addition. The theatrical versions are dead to me.

I would much rather watch standard def extended.

I really thought the sign said 6 discs. I could be wrong. :dunno

Best Buy finally has it up on their site. It's 9 discs and the pre-order steelbook is $15.

I'll get this one if no one has any kind of exclusive with their's.

Yes, I should wait for the EEs, but.....I can't. :lol

It is the way of life and the ever-changing of technology.

I don't know if I will be able to hold out for the EE.:monkey1

i dont like the whole updateing thing either, especially cuz not evetry movie i own is on bluray yet. LOTR's is a big one, if not the biggest, for me, but im very dissapointed that these arent the EE's. i am not going to put good money down for the versions of the films that i dont really want. i am just happy with my dvd's for now, i will wait till the EE's are confirmed. this is such a bogus move from new line, very similiar to what they did when the films were first released on DVD. first put out the "theaterical" version, then moonths later release the EE's. why? i have no clue. but it stinks.

also, when they do eventually come out with the EE's, do you think they will be able to fit the WHOLE extended film on 1 disc? that would be great if it didnt have to switch, but kept going without the "intermission".

has there been any news anyway about the EE release date?

My own opinion is that I think it is cheesy that they didn't go straight for the EE. I will be waiting for those to come out before I buy the BR (I hope).

However...I do want the digital copies. So if anyone who is buying the set does not want the difital copies, I will gladly share the cost of the BRs with you if you want to sell the difital copies at a reasonable price.
