I presume Dan is working with the miners. Remember in the beginning of the season they showed him in the tunnel where whathisface who did the videos was telling them to be careful about digging because on the other side of the wall was something having to do with the island's ability to time travel. That sentence barely made sense, but it was the best I could do. :lol

Now when Locke left the island he wound up in the present (three years after the O6 left). And didn't he tell someone that to the ones left on the island it had only been a few days or something? Or am I going crazy? If he did go three years in the future, then when did Ben go to after leaving the island? He seemed to pop up shortly after the O6 left. Or am I missing something simple?

AH DUDE, nice catch about Dan. That explains why we saw him earlier in the mining tunnel, excellent catch!

And yes, Locke told Widmore that it had only been three or four days since he last saw the young Widmore on the island. Making those 3 years for John last only 3-4 days. I assume because he turned the wheel and flashed to the present in Tunisia that he was exempted from having to physically live through those three years.

EDIT: Also, we saw the back of what appeared to be the FOUR TOED statue, almost looked like an Anubus Egyptian style statue. And also remember all the Temple type structures we have seen (ie: the door in Ben's house that he went through to "control" the smoke monster, and the ruins where the Smoke monster dragged one of the French castaways into). Almost as if long ago, ancient civilizations might have inhabited the island?

The other "Egyptian" connection was the necklace that Paul was wearing. It's an Egyptian symbol , called an ank (spelling?) not a cross. That and the "eyliner" comment about Richard, whom I believe to be an Egyptian immortal!

I thought it was odd that they focused on the Ankh like that if I recall the Ankh is a symbol for like (maybe even immortality?) which fits with Richard and maybe Locke/Jacob along with the other dead/ghost references common in the show. And now that you mention it there are alot of Egyptian type things. Some of the symbols that showed up on the clock when they didn't push the button looked like Egyptian hieroglyphs.

and remember the picture that hurley was drawing when locke visited him........i think the sphinx and pyramids........:google

Was there an obscene amount of commercials during this episode or what?! Geez! Good thing I DVR'd this episode and was able to fast-forward through them all. Did stop to check out the trailer to that Nicolas Cage flick. Looks interesting...

Great call Nightcreeper, Darthrazz, Agent0028 and barryo on the Egyptian connection. Don't forget that one of the "portals" led to Tunisia, not to far from Egypt.

I still will go with the "LOST island of Atlantis" theory for the island, though.

Yeah the Ankh is a symbol for immortality or eternal life.

Also Horace Goodspeed; look and read about the god Horus: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horus

I mean this could be over analyzing. But with all the Egyptian references: Ankh, the temple structures, the hieroglyph-like symbols on the hatch countdown and the four toed statue.

Anyways, it says Horus fighting with Seth for the throne of Egypt: foreshadow to the possible war they are talking about in LOST? A battle for leadership or control of the island? With Horace Goodspeed somehow involved? It mentions the god Horus getting his eyes injured and then healed. The Island has magic healing powers. And we know that Horace Goodspeed died on the island. The god Horus is said to be reincarnated as all the future pharaohs of Egypt. Is this whom the island's Horace is? He dies and dies but is constantly reincarnated......with the recent reincarnation being John Locke?

I really hope the Egyptians and their ideas don't explain everything in the end, but it does seem as if there is some connection.

Anyways, my brain is exploding from this episode. Too much thinking, I need to take a break :).

Everyone's Egyptian ties are great! I could have never come up with this myself. You guys rock!!
Interesting that you mentioned the eyes with Horus. I just googled Horace Goodspeed (kinda forgot who he was) and was reading that in the episode where Ben killed all the Dharma Initiative he paid respects to Horace by closing his eyes. Horace was the only person Ben did it to. Coincidence??!?!:google

Wasn't Ben (as a child) brought to the island in the early 70s? Or is this happening before then?

Okay... if the island is in the 70's is the rest of the world in the present??? If Sawyer had left on the sub would he have returned to 1970 world or present world?

I'm guessing 1970's. The plane flew into the bubble and Jack, Kate and Hurley got caught in a flash (for some reason) and went back to 1977. So I imagine that Locke, Lapidus and the other survivors from the Ajira plane crash who didn't flash are on the island around 2007. (Since the Hydra station has been abandoned by the Others rather than being in full swing and full of Dharma folks in the 70's.) How they all reconnect, I don't know just yet. But did Sun flash as well, or did she take the outrigger with Lapidus in 2007 to go look for Jin on the main island?

At this point, I'm really not seeing why the Oceanic Six had to return. The time flashes stopped when Locke turned the wheel, and it looks like their return wasn't actually needed to save the lives of those left behind. I really don't know where they're going to go from here.

And what happened to Rose and Bernard? Did they end up with the Others? They have to explain where they've been for three years.

But it was nice to see a successful childbirth on the island. Now I am wondering about the identity of Amy and Horace's son. (Also, what happened to his previous female companion?) I'm sure that when they reveal his name, it will be familiar to us.

Oh, and the four toed statue cameo was fun. My wife says that it came from Tunis.

I've been thinking that for the last couple of episodes. My wild guess is that when all the references of 'They are all going to die if you don't return to the island' must not really be in reference to those that stayed on the island (ie: Sawyer, Juliet, etc), but may have something to do with the 'war' that's coming.
This may also explain why it was alright that Aaron didn't come back to the island.

The 'war'? Do you mean the war between The Others and the Dharma guys? Couldn't they circumvent that danger by leaving in the sub? I agree with tomandshell, I really don't see why the Six had to return.

Tonight's episode was good, but seeing Sawyer kiss Juliet was weird.

I think I read somewhere that baby boy was Ethan (the Other)

But we do know that a 'war' in the present is brewing (at least if we believe what Widmore said last week). So, IMO that is the supposed 'battle' that they have to be a part of (not the Dharma/Others extermination that Ben caused). Yes, they are in 1970's island-verse right now, but I think they will eventually get back to the correct time and then participate in said 'war' (that's if we believe W). I could be way off of course. Like I said, just my wild guess. :D

There was a debate the other day about who was good or bad, and I found this on Lostpedia.

In the DVD commentary for "The Constant", Damon Lindelof describes Widmore as "the big bad" of the show.

Soooo yeah, that settles that. I can't imagine that makes Ben a good guy though. I guess that pretty much casts a lot of doubt on whatever Widmore says.

Great, great episode as always! This seasons been non-stop goodness every week.

Going back to the Egyptian connections, Bne refered to Hurley as Ramus (sp?) a couple of times this season, once to the lawyer guy and once to Eliose I think. Very Egyptian-God-like name if ever there was one...

Love all the Egyptian theories...

But remember, Frank (and Sun) are heading over in a boat-- John Locke's group arrive on the beach with the other two boats-- Sawyer's group (in the past-- make your head spin with that one) take one of John's boats and then as they attempt to get around to the other end of the island they are chased (presumably by John's group) and Sawyer shoots.... who? John? Caesar?...

Could the War that is coming have nothing to do with the Island? Perhaps a World War, Nuclear war, and perhaps Widmore could be trying to get to the Island because it will be unaffected in the Apocalypse and be safe, a Utopia or new beginning for those that are left?

Also someone here had suggested that what if some had used flight 815 , like the Losties used flight 316 to get back to the Island? I was thinking who it could be? I really think it might have been the stewardess( I can't remember her name) who disappeared and was later seen living with the others with no issuses about doing so!

When I was in high school I studied Egyptian mythology and I looked up Ramus in my book and there is no Ramus in this mythology but there is a Remus in Roman mythology. Romulus and Remus were the founders of Rome, if I remember correctly.

There used to be a great site for looking up Mythical names and explaining them. I'll see if I can find it again.
