Oh no doubt absolutely Ben is trying to get them to go back for his own benefit. I was a bit surprised he gave up his "command" so easily to Locke. I'm sure that he wants it back.

Exactly what I was earlier. Ben has always been in it for himself. And he is always got something going on the back burner. He's manipulating everyone for his benefit.

I can't wait for the next season!!!! I really wanna know where/when the hell the island went to??!!

i think ben knew it was temporary and locke would wind up as he appears to have. just when i think this show couldnt get anymore twisted......BAM !!!.....it does. so now there is only 4,815,162,342 possible endings to this show.

I think the Island is in 'flux" between time. Just like the video with the rabbit that said it would look like he had disappeared for a second. Why exactly did the VCR start to rewind itself???
I hope next season is as intense as this past one. I really enjoyed the character of Frank Lapidus, but i think his story arc is done.

But didn't Ben say that the island won't let him come back? He's a lier about some things, but I don't think about that. I think he just wants to do whatever it takes to keep the island away from Widmore, even if it means never coming back to the island again. He's still a little sore about Keamy killing his daughter...

Uhm, Keamy is dead?!

He is going to be settling that score with Widmor. Remember when he told Widmor that because Widmor broke the rules of the "game" and killed Alex that Ben was gonna kill Penelope.

I want to know what this game is that they were playing!

Looks like nobody posted it, but I totally forgot about how the ghostbuster guy said that Charolette had been to the island before...wonder what that's all about?

ben is the perfect liar..........any good liar puts some truth into their lies & ben does this flawlessly.

yea i caught that too & she had a look on her face like "wtf are you talking about?"........like she really didnt know she had. or was i reading something into that look?

Some musings...

My alternative universes and the island being the portal theory is holding up quite well so far. Parallel timelines running but with alternative realities manifesting themselves... and the Island is the gateway between these alternative realities.

In one reality, Jack's dad is dead. In another, Jack's dad is alive. (see flashforward where Jack tells other doctor to go find his dad and see which one of them is more drunk...)

The whole Desmond episode gave us at least "2" different Desmonds, living in two different timelines. We had Island Desmond and Military Desmond. Memories kept changing but the true "constant" for both was Penny...

We have Claire causing an accident that leaves her mom in a coma and then another Claire saying something like, "...if my mom finds out I'm pregnant, she'll kill me..."

Has anyone noticed how the bearings/headings to/from the island were changing throughout the seasons?

-Ben told Micheal to follow a bearing of 325 in order to find rescue.

-It was a bearing of 305 in last night's episode.

-Daniel stresses to the pilot that he'll need to follow a certain bearing. (I need to rewatch a few of these episodes in order to get each of the different bearings said...)

Time travel is confirmed with that machine at the Orchid station and now the whole missile test / dead doctor incidents start to make sense, in conjunction with the "bearing" principle:

-The dead doctor washes up on shore and Daniel calls the ship and it's at night...
-It's daytime when the reply is sent from the ship that the doctor is fine, even though Daniel receives the reply immediately...
-The missile's clock is running with a 30 minute differential from Daniel's clock...
-When the helicopter leaves the ship, headed to the Orchid station, it's day time...
-When the helicopter flies over Jack and drops the phone, it's nighttime... (The ship is not far enough to have taken the helicopter hours to fly to and from...)

My hypothesis: It appears that there is a certain bearing that stays linear with the island's current timeline and straying from that bearing will possibly take you into the past. How far in the past depends on the deviation from that bearing...

Missile came in at one bearing, dead floating doctor body in another...

More ramblings to follow as I continue my musings... lol

I know he's dead. I guess you misunderstood me, but no matter. Like I said he's still pretty sore about it, THUS he's going to stop Widmore at all costs, yet still keep within the "rules."

Ah ok, I see!! :eek::eek:

I think that Ben told Michael to use bearing 325. Maybe a diferent timeline so that he could "control" Michael.

Yes, the part when Ben was talking to Michael was 325.

But since the "rescue boat" got to the island, Daniel(scientist geek) was telling Frank(pilot) to follow 305 to and from the island. I remember seeing it on the little electronic compass he had.

It somehow changed from season 2 til now. Hmmm......... I do believe we had another "event". A certain purple sky event. :naughty:naughty

Edit: Never mind, because Widmor gave them the coordinates and bearing to get to the island. Crap on my theory.

Ah, good observation. I thought there had been some bearing changes mentioned since the "rescue boat" had arrived.

Question: Who of the survivors are left "on" the island besides Sawyer, Juliette and Charlotte? (not counting Locke, of course...)

I wonder who was on the raft with Daniel and if they got pulled along with the island or are adrift at sea...

Or perhaps into the "past" so that he would be out of the picture...

No one would believe him if he said that he was a survivor of flight 815 if it hadn't crashed yet... He would have to change his name because the "other" Michael could possibly be walking around? Plus it would allow for both him and Walt to appear "older" to the islanders.

So, did Widmor get those coordinates from the Black Rock book he bought?

That's what I'm guessing. That would be just about the only way for him to know exactly were it was at. I still like to believe that maybe he was on the Black Rock. Maybe that's how he knew about it. But hell, who knows. They always leave with way more questions than they actually answer. Bastards!!!

There is a certain duality working in the show, but I'm not sure think there's any alternate universe jumping afoot.

I think they pretty well established that there was only 1 Desmond at 2 different points in his life and that his consciousness swamped and time traveled between the 2 moments. I guess each passing moment of time could be construed as the creation of a new self and reality but it'd be a stretch.

When the rabbit, or anyone else for that matter, steps into the Dharma TARDIS thing, it simply moves them forward (or possibly backward?) through time ala Doc Brown's dog in BTTF. The tape conveniently skips the why... is the rabbit skipping over the moment or simply traveling faster than normal time? This is perhaps why Richard appears not to age, moving through different times rather than being immortal?
