Thanks for positing all those photos, Dr. Nash. Happy to have mine still on order.

So, ugh, Sideshow's production of the helmet is not painted ^^^??, it looks like a decal. Dr. Nash can you confirm this. From your close ups (thank you by the way) it looks like a decal, not even painted. For the price (and those eyes lol) what a joke of price they charge for this bare bones figure.

The black and yellow stripes and the bottom edge of the helmet on the right side of the photo (above the visor) give the impression of badly applied stickers. The stripe over the top seems not to be placed centrally as there's a noticeable gap on one side where the decal doesn't meet the edge of the plastic ridge. The stripe also doesn't meet the yellow and black.

Funny how people come around with some good in hand pics. I do agree about the price point though it should have topped out at $200. I think someone posted something about how Disney influenced the price point when the figure was announced? Still happy to own it.

Good in hand pics were in short supply for a while, so it's understandable that people took some time to come around.

And does Disney not influence the price on everything? Did poor old Luke X-Wing get singled out?

Who's come around? I see more people announcing they've cancelled than I see people who claim they're going to purchase.

Despite its problems, it really is the price that's the biggest issue.

But I'm happy to live vicariously through some good in hand pics tomorrow.

I do think that SS Alex signed on during the initial pricing outrage to point out that Luke was now reflecting the impact of the new deal with Disney. Figures before and after have seemed more normal pricewise. Seems like it has something to do with either a main character or Luke specifically then, doing a human sculpt and trying to improve things, or both.

:lecture anyone in the hobby is used to the crazy price points nowadays. It's a matter of what a person will tolerate at the given asking price. It looks decent enough in the helmet for me to want it....just not at the retail price. I find the exclusive at $200 (or less), I'll bite. Otherwise, I'll wait for the next version.

While the figure is without a doubt a few notches below the proto quality-wise, it's still passable (I guess at least as passable as the Hoth figs were) but once again, just like when it was announced - the price is the problem.

Even now, 16 months later, the price still seems sky-high - it's a basic human figure that's only $15 less than a furred Chewbacca.:horror:slap

I don't think you're alone. Under $200 seems to be the peg for this guy.

If HT gets heavily into ESB in the next 14 months, another DX Luke will likely be in the cards. Because they've already covered Bepsin and SSC just covered Hoth, it'll have to be a Dagobah/snowspeeder outfit (with extra Bespin outfit because it's dagobah too) for around the same price as this to go with their Yoda.

With that in mind, it might be better to save the dollars for that.

Great pics, finally. Thanks mate!
Still not impressed by the product though, expecially head & helmet. I have no space (and money of course) in my schedule for this.

Agreed, while I do like the overall helmet sculpt, I think the paint/decals do look a bit toy-like, and the colors slightly seem off (the red should be a dark maroon.)

If you compare it to the Hasbro figure, it's not a huge leap forward in terms of being more realistic.

All this being said, I'm now going to try to find this for under $200. The head is a little better than the poor quality early pics indicated, and the outfit looks great.

Stitching on the flight suit is nice, it actually looks pretty sharp..

The molding and finish on the helmet construction is too crude, looks super cheap. And the head, well the head just isn't acceptable in 2015 for this price.

This is a $150 figure.

I've never even been on the fence with this one but I have been next to the fence, trying to get a good view willing to be tempted to get on the fence if there is something good I should consider on the other side. X-wing Luke has never been a grail figure for me, but I imagine for those it is this must be frustrating not to have a clear cut "winner" of a figure for the price tag. But for those who must have an X-wing Luke, and can afford or don't mind paying more than they may feel its worth it does seem like it could be a legitimate option.

As everyone has said, it doesn't look that bad with the helmet on. Even the phrase "not that bad" makes it sound worse than it is. Of course the paint app isn't up to Hot Toys standards, but in the helmet it actually does look like Luke Skywalker so it has that going for it. I myself, really like the Hot Toys sculpt, and I am curious what that sculpt would look like if it could be modded (without damaging it) to fit inside the helmet. But, the SS one in the helmet is just fine.

These pictures are also encouraging. While Luke is a step down from HT quality it doesn't look absurd next to them. When I got my HT Han and Ben and put them next to the much older SS farmboy Luke I couldn't stand it. I thought I could keep him there as a placeholder until I got the HT version, but I had to move him someplace else because having them side by side was terrible. I don't see this problem as much with RedFive, so the good news is I think he can be displayed with the HT figures without there being such a jarring difference in quality.

As for me, I'm going to pass. Maybe down the road if I can get it for about $100 less I'll consider it. But for others who get this I think once you get over what you spent for it (which face it, is something most of us have to do even when we buy a figure that's a "home run") it hopefully will be something you can enjoy- especially if X-wing Luke is a must have for you. The figure has some potential, and I think if it wasn't competing directly with HT versions of the same characters, and pricing themselves as if its the same quality, the figure wouldn't be getting nearly as criticized. If it came out a year or so ago perhaps people would have raved about it.

Thank you Dr Nash for sharing your pictures by the way, I hope you are happy with it. I'd love to see a picture of where you plan to display it.

I still kept mine. One of the cheapest Sideshow figures I ever bought - around £9 mint boxed I think. And he's spent 99.99% of his life in the box.
