I missed out on the TA breakdown. Definitely would like to pick up the helmet, suit and boots to make another pilot. Hopefully they breakdown more figures soon.

As for your custom, you'll definitely need to shave down the top of the head for the helmet to look good. The suit isn't filled out as nicely as the SS one, though. Did you skip the padded body suit? I think it makes a big difference on how the figure ends up looking. (If you are using the SS body.)

And thanks for the heads-up on the ebay Luke recast sculpt. Was tempted to pick one up but now will wait for a better alternative.

Yeah, those pics are really just everything thrown together - it definitely needs some padding here and there and the helmet on the head looks a little funny right now.

And I would be quite careful of recast heads from eBay. I guess they do vary in quality (someone told me Headplay's knockoffs are as good as the real thing) but this head's paint comes off with just a firm fingernail push. It's the reason I'm going to permanently bury it under this helmet. I seem to remember my buddy paid less than $20 for it - and it does have the "PERS" (though it's rough) - but even at that price it probably isn't worth it.

I'll post some more pics once I've fixed things and also painted the gloves. The Marmit gloves are an exact match to the X-Wing style, though the finger pose isn't as nice as the SSC hands.

excuse me, but how much was the suit?

It's an interesting breakdown...

Helmet was $50, flightsuit (as Chaka said, included everything but the leg bandolier, so I did a quickie mod of a Hasbro) was also $50. They only charge a very small amount for shipping.

FYI, for those looking to make other pilots or this Luke bash, the SSC boots are quite expensive on TA (like $30 plus shipping I think) but they are just standard German boots (and same boots used throughout all Indy and SW films) so the Dragon boots I used match exactly but only cost $6 including shipping, and they have better articulation because it's a "feet inside hollow boots" system, not the SSC fig's "ball joint into solid boot."

I'm going to take some pics with the stock head and upload them later. But for now here's the figure with the HT head on.
The head didn't need any mods to get the helmet to fit - I just fitted it without any hair attached...

That looks really good with the helmet on (just thinking that's how I'd display him), really helps the likeness of the HT sculpt. Does the small SS hair piece work at all with it?

And does the helmet see a touch too big with the HT head in there?

I tried the SS hair, but it wouldn't easily go on and I didn't want to risk the paint. I think THE HT ears would need modding to get it on. As for the helmet, it is bigger on the head and will moved around a lot. But I like it looking bigger, seems more accurate.

Looks great. Thanks for posting pictures.

Definitely going to pose this iw the HT head helmet on. It will help with not having the same headsculpt flashing around the display so obviously. It does look really good with the helmet. There's something just odd about the HT hair on that Luke sculpt, it makes the head seem like it is oblong/huge head and I don't know if it could just be picture distortion.

Looks great. Thanks for posting pictures.

Thanks!

If it wasn't for the beady eyes, then I would certainly prefer this sculpt over the HT.
I always intended on displaying this with the helmet on and I will continue to do so. I haven't bothered to removed the full hair piece from the box.

Here's a couple of pics with the stock head on:

Do you have a preference yourself having the both in hand? To me, it looks like if you're going to display him helmet on, goggles down, it's a push from the photos. Looks like both got the mouth/lips/lower face shape down pretty equal.

Great pics (HT / SS sculpts) Cavlcade. Are you using stock body in both instances?

Thanks.
Yeah, I'm going to stick with the SS body on this - it's the first time I haven't felt the need to swap it out. Apart from a stiff bicep on the right arm it flows really nicely, shame there's no ankle articulation, but that's down to the boot sculpt.

I actually prefer the SS sculpt with the helmet on. In the future I may repaint the eyes, or at least replace the pupils with decals.

Looks good. I'm tempted to purchase another bash kit from sideshow as have been all their figures.

Thanks!

It's amazing how the addition of a blaster makes it seem more complete! I know it's not film accurate but it helps create a "story" and adventure. For the price, his weapons would have been a nice addition. Also, a "Yavin Hanger" environment base with hoses, boxes, etc. would have helped ease the pain.

How much could a blaster and lightsaber actually have cost them to throw in? It's not like they'd have to spend money designing them and making the molds or anything. This figure looks great. I don't like the HT head on it. There. I said it.

If SS had included a blaster, lightsaber and a diorama base, then I'm sure the price would be a little more palatable to many.

Having said that, I'm obviously guilty of paying full price for this, but I just couldn't resist - the X-wing pilot uniform is just so 'Star Wars'.

Here's a few more pics...
