Can't really tell the color of his eyes there. Wasn't it just the publicity photos that have the green straps? In the film they're more grey.

I have to say this is a remarkable likeness - only an unnatural bias against SSC would prevent a Star Wars fan from getting this iconic Luke.

It is my unnatural bias against having ample disposable income and space that's preventing me :(

Hold on a second. You think Hot Toys produces consistently better likenesses than this? And that post wasn't you just joking around? .

It would depend on the character. Consistently HT produces a figure that has a more photo realistic sculpt as opposed to SS where the prototype and actual release are so far apart as to make the effort look cartoony.

Some examples of SS recent releases that in hand are far from the prototypes and are generally accepted by consensus as "bad":
Nathan Drake
Clone release with the new two part paint/ assembly/ separate eyes

The upcoming SS releases will be using the same process so what would make the end expectations suddenly different? This Luke figure certainly looks like luke, but the over all appearance to me looks like a toy figure worth about $85- 120 due to the cartoony portrait.

Not saying that HT is perfect but they are far superior to SS in this scale and catagory. At the end of the day the prototype always is the better effort. So let's see what SS delivers when the Hoth versions come out, then we'll really know what to expect with this release. IMO.

I'm more than willing to call a SSC fail (check my avatar...) but I don't see much cartooniness to this portrait at all.

Even beyond HT disasters like Indy, there have more recently been the Bruce Banners and the Terminators (pretty much every single T2 Arnie) - portraits that have the trademark HT finish but are just plain off. To me, HT Han is looking in that direction as well.

But I more than share your proto to in-hand concerns - SSC does seem to have a far greater disconnect in that department than HT does and they need to remedy that issue and fast.

I agree with you on Drake...not so much on CMD wolf....I have very few complaints about him.

Very nice head sculpt. Still going to stick with the Hoth Luke for my sole Luke figure, but definately a great likeness.

Looks great, but I'm still debating on whether I should get this or hold off for an ESB version!

My first impulse when this was announced was "must-have!" but I cooled my jets and realized I'd much rather have Snowspeeder Pilot Luke. I think this prototype looks great, though.

Both recent SS Luke likenesses are far and away better than Hot Toys effort with DX07 (comparing proto to proto), we just need to see if they remain better through production.

I concur. I almost bought DX07 repeatedly, but it looks too square jawed and heroic for that moisture farming punk...

Looks fantastic. The X-wing suit is an iconic image of ANH for me. I'll definitely be preordering, however, I'll have a very low threshold for cancellation if production dosen't match up.

I like this sculpt much more than the Hoth version. Now if they could just make the production sculpts look as good I might even buy this one.

The next 18 months is going to be so interesting. Where people used to grudgingly accept a mismatch in proto to in-hand quality ("who else is going to do this Luke any better in the next few years?"), there's now going to be this "will HT do this in a year?" question lingering around just about every major character release from now on.

SSC will have to be careful to deliver quality on every "potential HT character" release to avoid the rats-from-a-sinking-ship scenario. People will understand that HT probably won't get to that Cantina alien or robot, but if it's a major or iconic (like stormie) character, why spend $200+ on something that isn't a bullseye when a bullseye might be only a year or so away.

And then if HT does surprise and announce a less major or non-human character, say like Greedo, things will get really interesting.:lol

Would be nice to think that delaying figures such as Hoth Han and Luke is to make sure their head sculpts are as good as possible.
