I might be in the wrong but I love owning movies
Well you're definitely in the wrong for not doing what I do :D

It's just that now with streaming movies being such an easy and convenient option, that isn't going away, I don't see much reason to buy physical discs to take up space unless it's something I really really like. I still buy CDs frequently, but almost always using GoHastings sales, and the only reason for that is that it's actually much cheaper than buying MP3s!

I do have a hunch that this film would not have been as well received had it starred Gibson assuming the film itself would have been the same in all other ways. Not because of the controversy over Gibson's public issues or anything but rather I wonder if the film would have suffered the over the top "tried-too-hard" syndrome of the last couple of Die Hards starring Bruce Willis.

Because with Hardy, Miller has given us a little bit more of a "Jack Sparrow" type of high flying Max. The whole "if I wasn't insane this would probably never work, bye!" *shoots into the air* And I don't know that people who grew up with the original trilogy, or were even aware of it, would really want to see that for Mel. He really wasn't acrobatic, didn't come up with particularly elaborate plans, and pretty much his sole tactic in a fight was to point the nose of his vehicle at the bad guy and hit the accelerator (which of course played out in spectacular fashion in not one, not two, but THREE straight films.) :lol

So I like that Hardy just makes the disconnect, and therefore differences, that much easier to embrace.

Yup. You can find what you want to watch all over the place online. And with tablets and phones, watch them anywhere at anytime.

And Khev, I think the movie would have performed the same or even better in Gibson was in it. Hardy, while talented, isn't a draw of any kind.

That said, I watched it a fourth time last night and it STILL blows me away. The most amazing location shoot since Fellowship of the Ring. I do have to give FR the slight edge over Ex Machina as best movie of the year and it's absolutely in my top three action films of all time.

:clap

Another convert. Keep 'em coming. I think now that this is out there will be many more converts.

Understood, but he allowed for the character to have more of a clean slate as to how he behaves and what he can do. I think that might have allowed people to embrace Max hanging upside down outside the War Rig and then doing a front flip onto the grill of the Gas Town tanker. The "is this a reboot/is it not/ah screw it who cares" nature of Fury Road allowed it to operate without the baggage of previously established do's and don'ts of the series.

I'm just saying Gibson *might* have inclined people to judge the film with more rigid criteria (rightly or wrongly.) Maybe not, maybe no one would have cared, but I don't think it's a definitive given that the movie would have been as good or better, or at the very least perceived to be as good or better had he returned to the role.

I don't believe there have ever been six but 2012 did indeed have five films in the $300+ million domestic club (with three of them over $400 million):

The Avengers $623,357,910
The Dark Knight Rises $448,139,099
The Hunger Games $408,010,692
Skyfall $304,360,277
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey $303,003,568

Ah, yes ... that's right. Thanks for the clarification.
Actually, this year has already had five because of Furious 7. So, it'll most likely have seven films gross over $300 million domestically. That's crazy.

Movie streaming is not allowed in my house. :lol

For some reason I picture you with this face when someone mentions streaming movies.

Man, this thing sold extremely well around here. All of the Best Buys were sold out of the Steelbook version. I ended up settling for the Target edition with the comic just to have some sort of bonus. I ended up getting that last one of those there too (actually had to use store pick up option online to even locate the darn thing!). Even though it sucks I missed on out the steelbook (no real loss, I just like that poster better than the lame one they went with for the normal Blu Rays) it means its at least selling better than expected I think. Hopefully strong home video sales give it enough of a push we get another one someday.

Target exclusive comic was digital only right? Dropped by Target intending to pick that version up but changed my mind after I found out it wasn't included in the 3D version.

After I like a movie and know that it's a day one purchase the only thing that matters to me then is ensuring a maximum video and audio bit rate delivery to the screen and speakers.

Anything that gets in the way of that ideology is eliminated. :lol

The Dark Side is STRONG with this one. :lol

My Netflix stream is comparable to anything I get watching a Blu Ray directly.

Yea i'd rather give up some maximum video picture and watch a whole slew of Netflix and Prime offerings than drop $20 or so bucks on a disc I might watch a time or two and then become a dust magnet.
