My favorite Yankee is the greatest home run hitter of all time:
Steve Balboni.

I'm talking overall worst collapse. When you hold the division lead for most of the year and going into September then manage to not only lose the division lead but not even make the post season , that's worse imo than dropping a few games in a row in a short series to a team that went on fire and won the whole thing. Neither are pretty that's for sure
I was having this exact debate this morning with a Yankee fan. I'm trying to be objective, but I don't think it's close. 2004 was far worse. I have no doubt that NY would've steamrolled St. Louis if they reached the WS. So basically they had to win one out of four games to earn another ring and they couldn't do it.
Meanwhile, while Boston's collapse was epic, all they could've done is become one of eight teams in the playoffs, with a pretty reasonable chance of not even making it to the ALCS.
Not to mention the whole 2004 choke was against their most hated rival, after 86 years of futility, right after swooping in and stealing ARod from the Sox during the offseason, in their own stadium, on national tv, and it had never happened in the history of MLB.
We'll probably never agree but that's part of the rivalry
True enough. Let's hope for the best playoffs possible. Maybe they can be as exciting and nerve wracking as last night proved to be.
Nah. Let's have a meeting of the two most successful baseball franchises in the world:
St. Louis Cardinals vs. New York Yankees
: )
As I said I'm a fan of my teams and I claim the titles, bad seasons, etc that come with them. If others don't agree thats fine but I'm not a fan of those teams for you I'm a fan for me.
For the playoffs I'm rooting for the Cards and Tigers.
So what you really want is meeting between the Yankees and Yomiuri Giants?
Wow Boston is going to let Francona go? What a terrible, terrible decision!
I'm not a fan of the decision, but it seems he wants out too. According to one local reporter Francona told the owners he didn't want his option picked up back in early September.
The rumors are already spreading that he's heading to the White Sox.

Perhaps, perhaps not.
Seriously, what an awful decision. Fire the guy who brought you 2 championships in recent years.
Hey John Henry and Theo Epstein, pull up a mirror you clowns.
Also Verlander vs. Sabathia tonight. Doesn't get much better than that.
I hope the Tigers smoke them.
I blame Henry, Werner, and Lucchino. The three stooges
