depends on how big your payroll is. Baseball is a market share league. Meaning some organizations are just fine with losing because they make so much money from the league. There are always going to be 3 or so franchises that spend twice as much money as the rest. Sometimes it pays off and sometimes it doesn't.

You do have to remember one thing about the Yankees. They have enormous TV and radio contracts worth $100s of millions. I will always give the Yankees ownership credit for spending that money on players. Most baseball owners would pocket the cash.

My Minnesota Twins have the richest owner in baseball and a new ballpark. At least we have a $115 million dollar payroll which ranks 8th in baseball. But us fans in the Twin Cities know they could easily raise it to $130 million. They won't do it. :(

Now why don't you come over to the college football thread. We need more posts in there. :lol :1-1:

Well, they are a smart bunch. They fleeced NY state and NYC taxpayers nearly a billion dollars to fund that shiny new stadium they play in.:lol

Go Tigers!!!!! My love for this team steams from my childhood, watching Gibby and the boys win in 84, would love to see it again!!!!!

I can see on an NL roster needing to replace him, but AL you should have plenty of bench players to keep him on the roster just in case he returns sooner than expected. Must be pretty bad.

That '84 was led by Jack Morris. I believe they started 35-5. Indeed wonderful.

Hey had such a sweet bat lately, he will be missed

I wish the clown would have produced for the Twins. :gah:

Oblique injury.

It was one of Giuliani's last acts as mayor pushing for public financing of the stadiums. The Yankees crying about how if they didn't get financing in NYC, that they would move to Jersey probably helped things along too.

That's how Twins pushed through their stadium also. Not complaining though. This time the politicians want a public vote for a Vikings stadium. That's not going to pass. :(

Ha. Derek Jeter got that contract because he used the media against Cashman. Jeter was offered lower contracts but turned them all down until Cashman gave in. Jeter hitting .100 doesn't sell more tickets. Keep celebrating division titles and post season births. They don't mean squat. Cashman is nearing the end of his term. New Steinbrenner will find someone who can win the big one.

Jeter hitting .100 doesn't sell more tickets, Jeter being Jeter sells tickets. :slap

I'll keep celebrating my franchise fielding a competitive, playoff team every year that's always a threat to make a WS run while you keep ragging on Derek Jeter out of envy :wave

I'll take division titles and post season births. My team went 73-89.

Exactly.

Lex is a bitter Braves fan who just watched his franchise choke a 8.5 game Wild card lead away in September, explains the jealousy :lol

The Brewers/Cards series will be awesome. I think its the Brewers year. which is a good thing for them because once they lose Prince they are going to struggle again.

I am hoping the Brewers win it all this year actually, i just hate that "beast mode" ____ they do.

Should be an interesting series. Cards have been on a nice roll since Sept 1 so hopefully we can keep it going and get to another WS.

Can't wait for the biggest whiners in baseball to start up their waterworks again!

"PRINCE'S JERSEY IS KIND OF LOOSE! OMG! SO BUSH LEAGUE!"

"THEIR LOOKING DIRECTLY INTO PUJOL'S EYES!!! CHEATING!!!"

"THAT BRAUN GUY NEEDS A SHAVE AND A HAIRCUT!!! SO UNPROFESSIONAL!!!!"

"EVERY TIME A BALL COMES SOMEWHAT NEAR ONE OF OUR PLAYERS, IT'S TOTALLY INTENTIONAL AND REQUIRES PAYBACK AND ACTION TAKEN BY MLB!!! ACCIDENTS NEVER HAPPEN EXCEPT WHEN WE SAY WHAT WE DO IS TOTALLY AN ACCIDENT, THEN ACCIDENTS TOTALLY HAPPEN!!!!"
