Re: The Man of Steel

Oh man :rotfl I agree with ur second point though, it was hyped as a superhero movie and it really isn't your conventional superhero fare, that was unwise.

My wife didn't like it for that very reason. She loves superhero movies and was excited to see this based on the commercials. I warned her that it was essentially a Law & Order with superheroes but she didn't listen and refused to read the TPB because of spoilers, and I had to listen to her _____ all the way home about how boring it was. :(

I liked it. My mind is still recovering.

I think that atmosphere would be absolutely perfect for the Batman reboot.

Rorschach was badass...I think it would have been cooler if the first time we saw him take off his mask was during his death scene.

Re: The Man of Steel

Superman better not be an hour long story with an extra hour and a half of slow-mo action scenes, like Watchmen. Hey Zach, if you didn't use slow-mo for every damn fight scene, maybe you could've included more important footage.

I was in the same position. I watched it in the theatres, enjoyed the Rorschach stuff, but thought the rest was boring.

Read the comic, thought why didn't they put more of this into the movie.

Bought the movie, realized how much of the movie was actually from the comic and I just missed/didn't get at the time and appreciated it alot more on subsequent viewings.

This is one adaptation I wish i would have read before going to the movies.

Movie was the adaption. :wink1:

I was surprised how well the story held up in film though, given it was written way back in '86. Most of the stuff from that era is campy extra cheese. :lol

Re: The Man of Steel

Watchmen was a fantastic film, I will give Snyder credit where credit is due. I liked 300 but the rest were pretty garbage to be honest. Make or break time!

I never read the watchmen comic so I went in totally blind. I honestly didn't get it. The U.S. history was changed all around. Confusing. Flashbacks to start out? Then blue shlong? I don't need to see that crap.

To anyone who liked it or read the comic and liked it I'm not trying to offend anyone. I just didn't like it and didn't get it. The tone was very cool. Very much like a Noland batman but other than that I thought is was a terrible movie.

I loved 300 so I'm hoping he will do well with superman. I actually got chills from the teaser and the SDCC footage.

Well, at least you admit it. Most don't. They just expected the usual superhero popcorn flick and it breaks their brains.

Re: The Man of Steel

Didnt like 300,didnt like sucker Punch, dawn of the dead was good but....

Watchmen was a masterpiece.

Watchmen > the whole Nolan Batman trilogy.

I think Snider has the potential to make Superman a great movie, but will he deliver....For now, I like what I saw in the teaser.

Agreed in terms of the last part, I hope a full length trailer will be released by the end of this year.

Don't feel bad, a Watchmen movie really wasn't the best idea. Snyder did as good a job as could be expected, but Watchmen's effectiveness as a story came from the fact that it was a comic and the time period in which those comics came out. It was revolutionary for that medium, but for film, concepts like dysfunctional heores, graphic violence, all that sort of stuff was already old hat in cinema. The original impact of the story just doesn't survive the translation.

I disagree 100% with this. But one must read the source material before viewing the film to understand and appreciate it. Therein lies the flaw.

Re: The Man of Steel

I liked 300 and Watchmen. I have faith Snyder can do Superman justice but I am betting a lot of people will either love it or hate it.

300 was OK (it was a great job transferring the source material-- sometimes almost panel for panel), Suckerpunch was horrible in my opinion, Dawn of the Dead was OK, Watchman was a great job (especially because the source material is so dense and mind-blowingly awesome).

I have some faith for this interpretation. I just hope that the fight scenes are what we've always wanted to see in a Superman movie.

Re: The Man of Steel

300 and sucker punch were pretty damn cool IMO. Watchmen was alright as dawn of the dead so I have faith he will be just fine with supes.
