Re: The Man of Steel

The Soundtrack..
So I loved Zimmer's music in the movie. But I have been listening to the 2 CD version since yesterday morning. I'm starting to dislike it in isolated album form. It's far too repetitive. Everyone has heard the main theme by now, and it's great, particularly since it follows on from Williams iconic score and it doesn't actually suck ***. It is made up from 3 main elements/motifs. The "duuum...dum.." intro heartbeat sound. The lonely and beautiful piano motif and the celtic/tribal drums.
But..I've realised the entire score is mostly the same 3 or 4 things over and over and over. It actually started to irritate me last night so I had to turn it off.
Every bloody track has the same couple of notes played in a different arrangement. Bit disappointed as I was really really looking forward to this, I love Zimmer and thought it sounded great onscreen (which is the only important thing I guess)...
:(

I wasn't expecting it. He was looking forward to it as much as I was, but said someone in the YouTube comments spoiled it for him. There was another guy there who thought it would be funny to coax him into saying it. He did, and it was ruined. I even tried to plug my ears, but he was talking too loud. That other guy's a major tool.

Re: The Man of Steel

Faora was the saving grace of this movie for me. She is hot.

Re: The Man of Steel

I think the same film team should have just made a movie version of Starcaft.

Re: The Man of Steel

Zimmer music within the movie = PERFECT!
Zimmer music on its own = meh save for some cool bits.
Flight is so beautiful and powerful, wait to see it on screen.

AND I LOVED THE MOVIE.
Not perfect but this is a SUPERMAN i like.
The best superhero movie for me, the direction, the scope of the fights, the cast, the emotion.
LOVED IT! Congrat and thanks to Zack Snyder!

So what you're saying is, a typical Hans Zimmer score? :lol

Yeah, I guess. :lol

I was just expecting a lot more from this one for some reason.
That "Han's Sketchbook" track that everyone was freaking out over, made me want to shoot myself in the head after 15mins..:rotfl

Now..where's my 8 disc Superman Score set..need some William's to reset my fandom.

Re: The Man of Steel

The thing about Zimmer is that he gets really lazy. He can create some powerful, and catchy tunes...but he doesn't do anything interesting with them past the initial track.

I love Arcade because it stands out. It's got a really interesting sound to it.

I like Zimmer. But I don't love him. I like when he takes risks, and delivers a score that stands apart from his work. Like Inception, which moves through out in a unique way. And Sherlock Holmes, with it's interesting use of instruments.

But come to TDKR....it's just a rehash with 3 new cues. Whoopy dee. It was OK. But man. It was kinda disappointing.

Re: The Man of Steel

Agreed:)
But as Rorywan said as long as its works on screen its cool.
And man it does work!

Re: The Man of Steel

Saw this last night. Pretty awesome movie. The effects were literally out of this world. Amazing!!!

Crowe and Costner killed it as expected. Cavill was surprisingly really good. Lane and Adams were good. Shannon was the weak link. He's a great actor, just not quite right for this role.

Overall this is a superb Superman movie.

Re: The Man of Steel

whats the ending?

Did someone already post it with spoilers here? I want to be spoiled badly...

Wow, that is hard to believe. Never thought I would hear Shannon and weak link ever mentioned in the same sentence.

I know, I find it hard to believe myself. Maybe it was the script, but he off as a typical one note villain. I think his talents were wasted here.

Re: The Man of Steel

A friend of mine ruined the ending. I now want to punch him square in the throat.:gah:

Same here. I can't believe Superman dies

Ha, I'm getting out of here in case some ruins it for me.

One question though. For anyone who has seen this is it as good as the best comic movie ever made to date? The Green Lantern :D
