Re: The Man of Steel

Words cannot describe how excited I am. Saw one of the latest trailers when to see Iron man 3 & as lame as it sounds, I got emotional. I was TOO excited to see it on a big screen. This movie is going to rule my life.

So, what's the 3D like?

The preview screening I saw was 2D. I have seen trailer 1 & 2 in Imax 3D and the 3D looked very poor, in a post-converted type of pop-up way. The only thing that looked truly 3D were the logo's! Don't know if that's an indication of the final quality or not, but I fear it is. Gonna check it out again on saturday in Imax 3D.

Re: The Man of Steel

I will be the judge of that. None of the few reviews I have read say any such thing; I need to see for myself.

They do actually. It's been mentioned a bit. I think everyone expected a scene stealing performance from Shannon. It's not, but he is good.

Re: The Man of Steel

Surprised by all the love that the MoS score is getting. Now don't get me wrong nothing is going to touch Williams Score I know that. But everyone is talking about the track "Flight" So I gave it a listen. Without knowing the context of the film all I can say is that the first part before the piano sounded as much like a horror film (theme from 28 days later) then a superhero theme. And then the Big ending was "meh" to say the least. No "Superman" theme there at all.

I loved the simplicity of Zimmer's Batman theme and thought it captured batman's Heroic focus. But Zimmer is not the right guy IMO for a score like this. I was worried when they said he was first going to be doing it. He just lacks that certain something to give us a truly memorable theme. This theme is about as Memorable as Elfmans Spiderman theme... Nice music but nothing sticks or relates to the character.

Now when watching the film I could be wrong and the theme could take a life of it's own. But the theme makes me worry for the film itself as I think it sounds to dark and serious and that is what I worry about with the Superman film itself. Not that I want an Avengers/Iron Man type film. But I don't want the Dark Knight either. Superman is about hope and I "hope" we get that feeling in the film.

Anyways that is at least how I feel about the score upon first listen. I will give it some more chances. Perhaps it will grow on me.

Re: The Man of Steel

31 second mark for 28 days and 1:25 mark for MoS. Not saying they are exact... The feel is the same IMO. Perhaps flight is a mix of themes and that is Zod's. Sounds more villainess then heroic IMO.

Re: The Man of Steel

If you told me Iron Man 3 would be more entertaining and crowd pleasing than MOS, I wouldn't have believe you. This has all the angst of Superman Returns and The Dark Knight, just with video game action cranked up to 11.

Re: The Man of Steel

I just browsed the IMDB message board for this film. Dear god, steer clear from there! No-one should be forced to have to try and comprehend why there are so many fanboys/trolls and what their purpose is, other than to look completely retarded.

Re: The Man of Steel

Why do people go to IMDB if everyone and there mother hate it so much?

Re: The Man of Steel

I never said that I hated it. I always check out the IMDB message board of a film I've just seen or am about to see, to see what other people thought of the film, find out general information that I missed or to sometimes make something clearer that I didn't entirely understand. I don't post there myself, only read. Unfortunately, it's reached the time where the board for Man of Steel is full of a select few people who make non-stop (quite literally too) posts and threads about how much this will suck.

Well not you in particular. I mean most people ive seen always hate it. The bad info and the forums.

Re: The Man of Steel

I do understand where they come from to be fair. It's more the people I hate rather than the page itself. Once a film has been released for a few months it's calm and generally accurate enough to read.

Currently though it's also unfortunately filled with people who take Rotten Tomatoes as a religion it seems and are saying that the current 67% means that "this movie is ****ed, you can't deny that fact."

I admit I sometimes base whether or not I'll watch a film on RT, but the % score means nothing. Die Hard 3 was deemed "rotten" by the site, and it's the 2nd best out of the five films.

2nd best of the 3 films I think you mean. There hasn't been a Die Hard film since 1995 :wink1:

Re: The Man of Steel

Haven't seen Die Hard 5 ... but I actually rather liked Die Hard 4. Thought it was quite a bit better than 2.

Re: The Man of Steel

In all honesty, I agree, 4 isn't that bad, especially when compared to 5. It might not had the original gritty feel the first 3 had, but it's a very decent watch. I can easily sit through it again. The latest one is barely worth the one watch, it's just so bad.

There are 2 more Die Hard films? Does Bruce Willis know?

Bruce Willis knows about the 2, but unfortunately John McClane only knows about one of them.
