Re: The Man of Steel

Oh I bet this film is too personal for him to comment on. He co-directed it with Zack Snyder you know. :lecture

No, but you could tell how excited he was for everyone to see it in his posts, and he seemed genuinely proud of what Zack had accomplished. He's obviously friends with the guy, and it's got to be disappointing to see it get this kind of reaction. That's all I'm saying, or, perhaps, you think that these films aren't a group effort?

Re: The Man of Steel

I dunno how anyone could trust some stranger's review until they have watched the movie for themselves from beginning to end. Good as a general guide but every one of us is different.

Vote for your favourite superman shaving theory :D

I liked Kevin Smith's. I only wonder how Superman was strong enough to break Kryptonian metal on Earth. Wouldn't it's properties be amplified as well, therefore making Superman breaking a piece off the equivalent of a human trying to break steel? Or is his heat vision strong enough to cut through it? He'd probably have to find a way to smooth the metal out to keep it from slicing up his face (as it would with a jagged edge from being broken off). Awwwww, nevermind!:lol

**** that he just has a look in the glovebox of the pod and finds some snazzy kryptonian Gillette™ razors stored away in there:lol

Re: The Man of Steel

That's odd. It's down to 63% on RT, but there are only 62 reviews. There were 63 earlier.

Think there is enough evidence to make the trip to the cinema worthwhile. Critics are so often so full of BS just to prove how clever they are/superior they are to the public.

I am sure we will make our own judgements when we see it for ourselves.

Re: The Man of Steel

Yes, I'd put it above those two movies. But I cannot agree with AICN and call it the greatest superhero movie ever. There are others that surpass it.

Would you even call it the "best" Superman movie?

Re: The Man of Steel

People on the internet sed this film was rubbish. I will not go and see it. Good day to you sirs.

Re: The Man of Steel

As long as creeper Superman doesn't end up in a hospital at the end of the movie again I think we'll be ok. :lol

Re: The Man of Steel

Most of the bad critics were hoping for a Donner redux lol
They wanted HA HA and Avengers flashy tone.
This is quite an adult movie.
It takes the concept of Superman seriously.
Maybe too much for some.
Since i never cared for the comic nor the donner movies i loved this take.
This is my kind of movie.
Batman nolan verse like but with incredible direction.
And there is a lot of hope and positivity but its not spoonfed.

Re: The Man of Steel

I don't let ratings get me down, still excited to see this on Saturday. Like Khev said, its gotta be better than the last Superman outing.

Well, in the end it feels more realistic and plausible and contemporary in a way that makes it more watchable and believable in this day and age than the Donner version. This one is more grounded in the real world and you feel the impact of the giant battles. It lacks a real sense of discovery because you've seen the first half of the movie already, particularly if you watched ten seasons of Smallville. Obviously, Kevin Costner makes a better Pa Kent than the guy from Dukes of Hazzard, but the bottom line is that almost everything in the first half felt familiar.

On the plus side, you have never witnessed Superman's power on display like this. If that's what you want to see, you're in for a treat. His x-ray vision looks cooler than I've ever seen portrayed before, because there was a huge budget to play with. And when he smashes people around, it's much more than somebody getting thrown through a sheet of drywall. It was fun getting to see Superman really cut loose with production values we've never seen before. It's just that I wasn't invested emotionally like I was when I first watched The Dark Knight or Avengers--or even Captain America.

That movie lacked a bit in the action and epic visual departments, but I wanted the skinny guy with a lot of heart to get the chance to fight for his country. He was sympathetic and I was rooting for him. When he threw himself on the dummy grenade to save his fellow soldiers, I was moved. I really cared about him and wanted to see him succeed. I'm not saying that Captain America was a better movie, but it did a better job at making me care about the hero and get me emotionally invested in his successes and/or failures. This was an angsty, brooding Kal-El who was almost always wearing his serious face and who spends much of the film drowning in reluctance. I wasn't jumping up out of my seat, pumping my fist in the air, shouting, "Go Superman!!!" I think you can make a Superman movie that has that effect, but this didn't quite accomplish that.

I am really looking forward to seeing the reactions of others as they have a chance to see it for themselves this weekend. By all means, do that! This is worth watching on the big screen.

I want it to get good reviews, but, at this point, I'm still super excited. I'll be there in my local XD 3D theater at 12:15, and I'll be on the edge of my seat waiting to see that Warner Bros. logo.

Re: The Man of Steel

The logos looked awesome in 3D. Then there was some shaky cam on Krypton that made me seasick. After that, things settled down a bit. There were still some quick and/or chaotic shots that were incomprehensible, but that would have been true in 2D as well. Just more than your eyes can take in all at once and at high speeds.
