Re: The Man of Steel

That's not always possible, though. Would you rather that this movie was a two and a half hour origin tale that took place on Krypton and Kent farm and ended with Zod arriving on Earth, only to be followed up by a sequel that was two and a half hours of those two beating the ever living **** out of each other? I just wonder where did you got the "63 minutes of 'meh'" thing, though? From a third of the 63 people who saw it? I've brought up the past entries because I wonder if, perhaps, that isn't having a bearing on why these people think of the first half of the film this way.

No, you brought up the past films to justify a thin plot. :lol My point is, as far as this film is concerned, all previous Superman films don't exist. This is a brand new Kal-El and a brand new Superman. It has to stand on it's own two feet.

Re: The Man of Steel

I watched Superman The Movie again, earlier today. It's a beautiful film, classic, epic, moving, it does things simply, but beautifully. And it's fun as well. Does it matter that the FX are in camera or blue screen? Not one bit. It's timeless. It remains the best superhero movie ever made.

I agree................a film of a much different era. Too bad it went downhill rapidly with sequels.

1989 Batman and 2005 Batman Begins are my other two top favorites.

Don't know why but I can't put 2008 Iron Man in the same level...despite it still being my favorite Marvel film.

Re: The Man of Steel

I have yet to watch a superhero movie that excited and electrified the audience the way Avengers did in the theater, and it carried over to home viewing just fine and mostly intact even w/o the large crowd.

This is what I want from MOS.

TDK did the same but in a somber, depressing and suicide kind of way if that makes any sense. :lol

Re: The Man of Steel

Because Joss Whedon knows how to make people happy. He can rile up a crowd pretty well.

It really gets me when people just wave The Avengers away as silly fluff. It's a lot more then that. And all these movies that have come out this year really drive that fact home. Whedon knew what he was doing. And he did it perfectly.

Oh and David Goyer needs to stop writing.

I think TDK did so well because it was a total slap in the face from left field..no one thought a superhero film could work as a crime thriller......

Again, though, shouldn't we wait to see the movie before we totally deconstruct it? Or have you already seen it?

This is your opinion. However, unfortunately for that premise there are five, count-'em five other Superman films which have already been made, all of which can be bought at your retailer of choice. All one need do is pull up amazon.com and look. There they are.

Good luck retconning those five big-budget, theatre-release films out of existence. Just because you send down a decree from your throne does not mean they get retconned from history, as if you were the Pharaoh commanding that Moses' name be stricken from all the monuments of ancient Egypt. Yeah.... no.
