Re: The Man of Steel

The Joe Manganiello rumor has been around for a long time, they were even talking to him about it last Comic-Con. It was going around before even Nolan or Synder was attached. Apparently he has a fanpage or something on the net where people were saying that he should play Alcide in True Blood, they had petitions, etc and it caught the casting director's eye who gave him a shot and he got the part. Then apparently they turned their sights on Superman and that petition was going around. He said he was flattered but that it was just internet rumor but he'd love to do it back then.

At this point I would just bank it in the same bin as the "Natalie Portman offered Lois Lane" where she publically said she had never heard it. Does he want the part? Yes, he's said it over and over for a year now. Will the hype get him a read, probably since it worked for True Blood but I wouldn't give him the part just yet.

Re: The Man of Steel

I liked parts of Superman Returns (most notably Routh's homage/channeling of Reeves) but there were just too many flaws (superkid, Lois :gah: ) for me to say that I outright enjoyed it and wanted a sequel from the same team...

I'm interest in what Snyder is going to do and would like to see a fresh take-- and when I say fresh I mean please, please, please no Lex Luthor real estate schemes.

Henry Cavill is The Man of Steel

https://www.deadline.com/2011/01/breaking-henry-cavill-lands-superman/

"The new film from Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures is being produced by Christopher Nolan and directed by Zack Snyder, who made this statement: “In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time, and I am honored to be a part of his return to the big screen. I also join Warner Bros., Legendary and the producers in saying how excited we are about the casting of Henry. He is the perfect choice to don the cape and S shield."

Re: The Man of Steel

Inspired choice for sure. I've only seen him in Stardust and as a youngster in Count of Monte Cristo. He did a good job in those and he's got the look. I'm happy with the choice.

Re: The Man of Steel

Wow....fate finally smiles on this guy. I remember his name being pitched around for Nolan's Batman, Superman Returns and even Wolverine at one point when Jackman was wavering...

I think he'll do just fine.

Re: The Man of Steel

ah ah funy story about him

While Cavill was rumored to have auditioned for the lead role in Batman Begins, he has confirmed having never screen-tested for nor been offered the role.
Henry was also the cause of a write-in effort of fans to see him cast as Cedric in the 2005 Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. The role went to Robert Pattinson.
Cavill also auditioned for the role of Superman in Superman: Fly by and was attached to the film under McG's direction. However, when McG pulled out, Bryan Singer took over the project and cast Brandon Routh as the lead role in the retitled Superman Returns.
In 2005, he became a contender for the role of James Bond in Casino Royale, and performed in a final screentest. The producers and director were torn between Cavill, Daniel Craig, and Sam Worthington. Apparently the director favoured Cavill as a younger version of Bond. However, the producers believed Cavill was too young for the role, which then went to Craig.
In the December 2005 edition of Empire Magazine, he was dubbed "the most unlucky man in Hollywood".

Re: The Man of Steel

^ Interesting. Looks like Cavill's streak of misfortune has ended...unless Snyder's Superman tanks.

Re: The Man of Steel

Batman, Spider-Man, Superman
All Brits :lol

I'll be honest and say I don't care much for it. As much as I like British and Australian men ( :drool ), they sure seem to be getting the cream of the crop with American movies and TV these days. Do they work cheaper? :dunno

Please tell me Captain America isn't played by a German! :lol

I completely agree. At least we have RDJ as Sherlock Holmes. It's funny. Most of our biggest cultural icons are British, but God forbid an American play Bond.
