I started way back when Sideshow was Barker Bros. If you want cheap Sideshows today, buy some Street Sharks!
In their 12" figures; I really miss the cheap ($8) horror figures that got me hooked on their newer lines.
I have been disappointed in the incompleteness of their lines. Collectors like to have complete collections and less serious collectors still want the more popular characters.
Get Smart was a prime example of an incomplete line. The line could not be complete without 99, Sigfried and Hymie. Young Frankenstein needed a special edition Fredrick and Monster in tux and tails and, at least, the Police Inspector.
Then there are all the Bond characters that were ignored. Minimally, Honey Rider, Moneypenny and M should have been included. Many of the Bond Girls should have also been included.
If Sideshow wants to be high-end and still 1/6 scale, there are plenty of vehicles that should be produced. Little Nell comes to mind. Outside of Bond, there are loads of cars, trucks and other movie vehicles that are huge holes in people's collections.
The main one (or mane one) is the horse! Why did Sideshow produce all these cavalry personalities without providing horses?
The other main problem SS has been having is deployment. For some reason, SS does not know how to use its strengths to turn out product to best effect. Sculptors suited to projects are not used where they would be most effective and seniority decides who gets what. This has lead to many problems with likenesses.
...And it's not like Sideshow can't find the talent. Just about everyone who was part of the resin kit art movement of the 90's has worked for SS.
The legitimate complaints are why retailers refuse to carry SS anymore and why collectors have lost enthusiasm. There is something legitimate to whine about.
When they can resolve these problems, SS might be on top again.
