Feature Film Slate Update:

Marvel today updated its feature film slate strategy and plans for the next three years, locking in key release windows for its character franchises. In order to focus its attention on maximizing the success of an Iron Man sequel and the launch of Thor in the summer of 2010 and because Marvel believes that the summer is the optimal time to launch a new property, the Company will not release a self produced film in 2009. Marvel plans to launch its 2010 film slate with the release of the sequel, Iron Man 2, on April 30, 2010, followed by the launch of Thor on June 4, 2010. Additionally, Marvel is planting its feature film stakes for summer 2011 with an Avengers-themed summer – a two-picture project which will debut on May 6, 2011 with The First Avenger: Captain America (working title), followed by The Avengers in July 2011.

Marvel’s Chairman, Morton Handel, commented, “Adjusting for the strong year-ago contribution from the Spider-Man JV, Marvel’s Q1 2008 operating results continued to demonstrate strong global demand for consumer products based on the Company’s portfolio of characters. Marvel’s self-produced feature film slate launched this past weekend with a performance that firmly establishes Iron Man as a major new film franchise, and the Company eagerly awaits the June premiere of The Incredible Hulk, Marvel’s second self-produced film. In addition, Marvel has been investing in other important areas of growth such as the Internet where, to lead the Company’s newly formed Global Digital Media Group, Marvel recently announced the hiring of Ira Rubenstein. Marvel has a strong foundation to build from, and the Company is adding infrastructure to maximize these opportunities.”

I am so glad that Marvel is doing its own thing now movie wise, rather than having to deal with other studios. We are going to see more movies faithful to the source material thanks to this. :rock

couldn't agree more.

I hope that the schedule means that the Captain America movie will be set in WWII and will end with him in ice to be found at the beginning of the Avengers movie a couple months later. That would be a nice short wait!

That would be cool, but I think the WWII scenes and discovering him in ice will be flashbacks in the movie.

:rock:banana:rock:banana:rock Great news!!!!

What about Spider-Man and Fantastic Four? Are they still stuck at Sony and Fox or did Marvel get them back?

Beautiful, just beautiful...I'm happy to witness the era of Marvel movies....And to say that compagny was on the law of bankruptcy a couple years ago... :duh

Yeah, this is fantastic news. I was happy when they announced Iron Man and Hulk, and I knew that their involvement would ensure we wouldn't really have to worry about accuracy any more. So at least we won't be seeing any "GI Joe style black suits" ruining the Avengers. :rock

I really am excited to see where they go with Thor and Captain America, those two are going to be really challenging to bring to the big screen without looking silly. They will have to think outside the box there to make it work. But I am sure they will do just fine.

THOR!! I can't wait!!

I wonder who the actor is?

If Triple H could carry a movie, he'd be perfect. Sadly, he's not that great of an actor :monkey2

Not only are we finally getting great comic book movies, but I see my Marvel collection just rising in value :D

It will be interesting to see how the actor's contracts factor into this scheduling. RDJ has continously said he is in for two which one could naturally assume a 2 picture deal. He doesn't have many caviats into his contracts either as the Hulk appearance was done as a favor not contractually bound. If he burns his next film obligation with Iron Man 2 it should be interesting to see if he can or will be back by 2011 for an Avengers film. He is 43 so we are talking a 45/46 year old Tony Stark in that film if everything stays on track.....

Should be interesting with Norton as well if they decide to add Hulk into the mix....

Downey's contract allows for Iron man 2 and then Avengers could be the 3rd one. And I'm sure they're planning on adding Hulk into the Avengers Mix - it will be the original line-up.

Unfortunately Spider-man and FF are tied up at their respective studios - although if they went with either Fox or Sony for Avengers then they could crossover.

Another nugget of info...

In a conference call this morning, Marvel Studios' David Maisel said that Iron Man 2 will be used to introduce Thor. Regarding more "Hulk" movies, Maisel said "We definitely plan on continuing." He added that development continues on Spider-Man 4. "I can't give any other updates other than to say it's in development and everybody's excited about 'Spider-Man 4,'" he said.

Triple H would be perfect. I think he's really been wanting to break into movies and has gotten into the best shape he's ever been lately hoping to get a big movie role. I think he lobbied for the part of Conan in the new Conan movie. He even wore a Conan outfit to Wrestlemania a few years ago probably to show he could look the part. Thor isn't too much different. And with how dedicated he seems to be, I'm sure he'll commit himself to acting classes to be as good as possible.
