I gotta agree with Crix, SLJ is definitely one of those actors who goes for liking the role over anything else. If he likes being Fury and especially considering he granted Marvel likeness rights originally he'll continue doing it.

As for the lack of confirmation of Downey and the muddling already about having different actors in roles without much hassle makes me worry a bit. I know its just safety talk as a just in case kind of thing its still worrysome.

I wondered about Downey too. Perfect guy to play the alcoholic Tony Stark, and I'm glad he's gotten his life back together, but so many times people like that fall off the wagon. It's a life long struggle after you first get addicted and I wonder if he'll have to be replaced not because of money but because he ends up back in jail. :(

Well, thankfully RDJ seems to finally have his stuff together. He is using his son as the most important reason for him to remain sober, and with his recent success added to that, I see him being fine from here on out. I'm really happy to see him doing so well and getting recognized again. He's a fantastic actor and %60 of why Iron Man was such a pleasure to watch.

I second that notion. There are a lot of super hero movies were when the alter ego is on screen you sit there bored wondering when he will change into Batman, Superman or the Hulk. That didn't happen in this film. Downey made this movie almost more entertaining when he was out of the suit than when he was in it. He is a great actor and I can't wait for the sequel.

I'm glad to hear RDJ has something to keep him straight now. I hope he can appreciate his role as a real superhero just for his kid's sake. Can you imagine growing up and telling people "My dad is Ironman!" :)

What I really LOVED about Ironman was that we could see his face while he was in the suit. I loved how they could cut into the helmet and show you the look on his face. The look of wonderment...he is such a good actor! I can definitely understand why some movie directors don't like using villains that wear masks, or end up damaging the masks so you can partially see the actor's face (like in the Spider-Man movies). It really adds to the scene.

I read somewhere that Favreau had recently said that Marvel was committed to having the same people playing the roles in the solo movies that was playing them in the Avengers movie. Something to the effect of 'it's either the same or forget it' and watching the documentary on the making of Iron Man I'd be hard pressed to believe that Jon would do a sequel WITHOUT RDJ.

You're gone.

I have actually read everything from either end of the scale and everything in between now about Marvel's use of the same actors for the superheroes. I have now read everything from "It's them or no Avengers" to "Well...if we GOTTA use someone else...".

All I really care about is that whomever plays the roles, do them well. I have never cared what actor is doing the characters. I just want them to not suck.

And I mean do them well like RDJr. did in Iron Man.

Edit - In fact, I would kind of like to see them use Chuck Norris for Nick Fury in "The Hulk".
