A Captain America movie seems to be the least likely to find great success internationally, particularly in this day and age when so many other countries despise America. That one is going to be a harder sell if they don't tone it down and make him into Captain Northern Hemisphere or something like that.

(Not that I want them to do that...)

I guarantee they follow the Ultimate storyline where Captain America is symbolic for the US as a PR move to relax tensions.

Yup, I totally agree. That's why they changed G.I. Joe to an "international hero." I think their only hope is that it makes so much money in the US that it'll make up for bad ticket sales overseas.

Oh, you can count Canada for places where it'll be a hit. Canadians love American bravado. The new Rambo was number 1 here for longer than it was in the US.

I think that if the movie opens with a prologue of him fighting Nazis (which pretty much the whole world agrees were bad) and then has him fighting fantasy beings like killer robots and supervillains in the present then the movie can still find success worldwide. Transformers, while not centered around US soldiers still had its fair share of them in the story and I'm assuming that the rest of the world didn't mind them battling alien robots in a totally non-political popcorn movie.

I consider myself a pretty big Canadian patriot...but even I wouldn't go see that! :lol

Americans acting like badasses are cool. Canadians acting like badasses are silly. Unless it's Wolverine...and it's a miracle they were able to pull THAT one off. :D

Hmmm...no. :)

Maybe if you had heroes from individuals states? Captain Texas? Captain Oregon? Captain New Hampshire? All better than Captain Canada. :)

Personally if they are going to change anything about Cap they should just go here:

So this means nothing to look forward to in 2009?

Just Wolverine. I'm sure we can count on Hugh having a Marvel-level of dedication to the project (he's producing it). He's always gotten into great shape every time he's played the character, and still seems really excited and dedicated (he recently said he wants to do 10 more Wolverine movies).

I guess Vladimir Kulich would have been okay as Thor about 15 or 20 years ago. He is 6 foot 5 and from what I have seen ( which isn't too much I admit) he acted quite well (convincingly). He was in The Thirteenth Warrior.

No one else comes to mind.

Maybe someone new?

LET'S HAVE A SEARCH FOR THOR!!:banana

Tony Stark was fighting Terrorists, even though they went to great lengths to show they weren't just Arab. I think for a modern audience Cap being a man out of time is the most interesting thing about him. He's a product of WWII and dropping him in 2010 he's going to feel out of place and a little corny. But if that's part of the character and the plot - it could work very well.

I would hope that Captain America would have a movie worthy of his history and importance in the world of comics. Cap is like Marvel's Superman so I would hope he gets the attention he deserves.

Hopefully they make it like the Ultimates with it taking place in the 40's and today. I know the natural choice for Cap's villain would be the Red Skull but what I think the shape changing villains he fights in the Ultimates would also be a nice choice.

Also, even if the movie is extremely patriotic I am sure it would be a hit overseas, even in Asia. American movies do great in the Asian countries, I think Spider-Man 3 killed it at the box office in Japan. Despite our current drop in popularity amongst other countries, American movies are still popular in the international market.

So this means nothing to look forward to in 2009?

No. This just means none of the licenses from MARVEL STUDIOS in '09. There may still be Marvel Superhero movies from the other studios that own the rights to them. And as long as they maintain the quality of entertainment that has been the signature on MOST of the Marvel Superhero movies, they will carry me through until the Avengers Saga picks up again.

Man! I am too old to be this excited about a movie franchise. But these characters meant so much to me when I was growing up that I am as giddy as a 6-year-old during a dream Christmas.

I will have an Iron-Man DVD worn out long before 2009 is over.

Edit - I was just checking a list of Marvel Superhero movies that WERE supposed to come out in 2009. I would like to know which ones are still go for 2009 and which are not. It WAS an ambitious plan...

G.I. Joe

Transformers 2

Thor - Now scheduled for 2010

Silver Surfer

Captain America - Now Scheduled for 2010

and Wolverine

Well, they are shooting Wolverine and G.I Joe at the moment and if there is development on Transformers 2 (T2?:D) and Silver Surfer they have to really get going and start shooting this summer. I don't trust any big budget movie with short turnaround time unless it's by Spielberg, he's fast. War of the Worlds was crazy fast.

I will be satisfied with Wolverine and G.I. Joe. Any more Marvel movies will be much-welcomed icing on the cake. But if we get Wolverine and G.I. Joe...it will still be a great year.
