I think the drop could be for a few reasons.. Mind you these are just my opinions.

1. It's the third reboot of the character.. Granted it stayed away from being an origin story but was it really all that different then the others? Other then being in the Marvel Universe what really made this film stand out from the other 5? A few people I know saw because that is what they do. They go see the most recent Marvel movie... But they were not excited for the film... Add me to that list.

2. Summers are just one blockbuster after the other... You have to hope for a huge 1st week and then you better hope nothing gets released the next week OR be something special that people want to see over again. Which leads me to the 3rd reason and the most controversial....

3. It just was not that good. Sure it was fun but it was void of emotion IMO.. Nothing stood out really as far as story, action, or character. It was a perfectly safe, emotionally boring film. Some may say that that is Marvel films in general but the best Marvel movies usually have something that you remember and want to see over again... IMO this film does not have that. Hell he was way more memorable in Civil War then this film. Other then Keaton this movie has nothing that really took it to the next level for a Spider-man movie. They should have aimed just a bit higher since this was the 6th film based on the character in a relatively short time.

I know people love it and I am not saying they are wrong.. But personally when I saw it I was not blown away and I did not think the film would have staying power, at the box office or the fans. Time will tell with the fans but I am not surprised about the box office.

Again its just my opinion... Hell I might live it when I watch it on Blu Ray but nothing about this film made me want to see it again in the theaters.

Yea it being not that good is really your opinion. It wasn't perfect but it was a damn good movie that portrayed the character right for once and made you care for Peter this time. The twist was cool. The fights could of been better but this movie was good. Best spidey movie in a very long time

Homecoming will still bank at least $300mil domestically. I enjoyed it, but like I said, just does not have the feel of the first 2 Raimi Spidey movies for me. I remember the first time I saw it in theaters, when that theme song hit and the opening credits rolled, I got all tingling. Tobey's Peter was fine for me, your average kid struggling to juggle a personal life and be a superhero at the same time, and the supporting characters were much better. Besides Ned, I didn't really care for any of the other kids in Homecoming, definitely didn't feel memorable, or the big "comeback" of Spiderman to the MCU as they made it seem.

Marvel changed the way movies are made, planned and created the new template for franchise-building. For better or for worse.

This is said about pretty much every popular movie made for the past two decades. It's one of those platitudes said for every successful blockbuster.

Didn't Batman 89 do the same? At least as far as the marketing or was it the merchandising? I remember seeing something like that in the DVD extras.

Just for the taste of it, Diet Coke ahhh

You can't watch a Warner bros movie without a Warner bros ball cap

I believe you're thinking about movies like Die Hard, that changed the focus of action movies for a time. That's a structural change within the formula. Movies like Goldfinger and Raiders do that. But my previous post was more about the world-building that goes on in building of a mega-franchise. That is a much broader concept -- and Star Wars really changed that with merchandizing and the EU-building in its day, Batman '89 again in its time, and Marvel now for the last 9 years.

Didn't Batman 89 do the same?

Yes, that was another. Star Wars did it. Batman did it. Now Marvel did it.

Yeah absolutely my opinion... I am glad you liked it... Personally I did not think the Spidey character was anything special. Peter Parker was done well but I think Andrew Garfield as Spider-man was just as good if not better. IMO of course.. I also found the Parker/Gwen relationship to be much more meaningful then anything this film offered in the way of Spidey... Comparing it to the first series I also found myself more emotionally involved with Parker / spiderman.

Having said all this I am not saying that the Garfield Spider-man or Rami Spider-man films are better... Just saying this did nothing to separate it from the pack IMO. Fight scenes and Fx were not as good as the last 4 films and was on par with the first. Plot was nothing special and the action was average at best...

So for me personally I don't think it's all that good of a film... But I feel that way about all the Spider-man movies and that is my point.... It is offers nothing new and nothing better. Just another Spider-man movie only "look Iron Man" to separate it from the others.

It's this reason that I think it may have really fallen off with audiences... As well as my other two reasons.

Super Hero fatigue is probably another.

But you liked it as well as many others. That's cool. Wish I enjoyed it as much... Time will tell if this stays in popular opinion as one of the best spider-man movies or just another Spider-man movie. I personally think it won't but that's just me.

I think its just this simple.

People here rave on about the latest and greatest and then when the dust settles the truth becomes apparent.

I also think audiences are experiencing superhero burn-out. One-offs and teams are common-place formulas now. No WOW factor anymore. Even well-done ones don't 'thrill' they way they used to.

It's time for all-out crazy madness WAR! And even that may be tedious...

Yeah I remember when AOU first came out... People here thought it was even better then the first Avengers film... But I tried to warn them... They now know better ;)

I think people are starting to come around to my way of think of The Force Awakens also.. Why don't people just listen to me :lol j/k

Actually I just tend to go the opposite way. I tend to be a little disappointed when I see the bigger films. Even ones I am not all that excited about (Homecoming for example) but sometimes a repeat viewing brings something to life for a film I was not originally crazy about.. It's why I am not writing off Homecoming just yet.

It still made a profit but the blame will always lie on Sony who made a half ass remake in 2012 and made a terrible movie in 2014 that dragged the character into the ground and made people annoyed with him. Now it's sad the character has to climb back up on top after terrible movies and tv shows.

I still find Garfield and Stone to be great in ASM2.... But man the rest of the film is pretty bad. I got fooled into liking that one because of the Peter/Gwen relationship also the CGI and Spidey action was some of the web slingers best... But yeah that movie is a stinker :lol

Yea the Gwen and Peter relationship is fine but Garfield as Peter Parker was horrible. He didn't act like Peter would and came off as an ******* and was to cool. Tobey and Holland you can tell are both dorks. Garfields spiderman however was good but he didn't have much to work with.

Liz bein' black for the sake of the twist.
Flash bein' Guatemalan for the sake of diversity, and not even a good character.

Fixed.

[emoji38]lol[emoji38]lol

He goes to school in the middle of Queens. You ever been to NYC? It's as diverse as you could imagine. If Liz and Flash were white, it would be more strange that almost everyone in this movie was white. Instead, they portrayed it exactly how it would be in real life.

You didn't feel Liz being black helped with the twist? For many people, it kept the twist completely unexpected and that's exactly what we're looking for. We won't see Liz again. She helped serve the purpose for this movie and her being mixed helped the final twist in the movie.

Nothing about Flash's character requires him to be white. He's a 2017 bully at a smart school. A jock/athletic Flash shouldn't be intimidating to Peter; he'd just kick his ass. But a financially superior Flash that also has decent jokes and jabs at Peter, that's something he can't compete with. That's a better bully for Peter and doesn't require Flash to be white.

Feel free to invite me. :lol

It's about characters from comic books gettin' changed for no good reason.
Vulture got changed but the reason was solid and the result's good.
The twist with Liz didn't add anything to her character, just some "shock value" to Vulture's.
Flash is a completely new character. He's not strong, he's not smart, he's not in any way a rival of Peter. I don't remember but is he called Eugene Thompson in this?
I also don't like how young Aunt May is. They've made it exclusively for cheap laughs around her sexuality.

Yeah, Garfield did not make the best Parker as far as getting the character right. He is the best Spidey though IMO... Holland is second best Spidey and best Parker... Hell I might say he was the best Spidey if he kept up what he did in Civil War.. Hope they get everything right in the next one..

Feel free to invite me. :lol

I hated what they did to Flash.. Awful! I don;t care about his race but why make him more of a Dork then Parker? Blah!

I don't care about Aunt May's age but would have been nice to give her a better part to play with rather then just younger and sexier Aunt May.

See, I don't think Liz was ever a big deal. I don't think we'll see her again. So, this was about Vulture and moving his character. I'm fine with that.
They do call Flash "Flash" a bunch. I don't think they ever call him Eugene. He's also dummer than the others at his smart school. That's why he's a reserve on the team.

I get your point on Aunt May. She's old in the comics and in my mind. Peter is 15 years old and Aunt May is about 55 here. It works. If this series goes for 10 years and he's 25 and she's 65, I'll be happy. I like the idea of 35 year old Peter and 75 year old Aunt May. We'll never get to that point in the movies, but we do in the comics.

It will certainly not be matched for success in our lifetimes. Whatever you think of Feige, he pulled it off for the most part. Even if everything hereafter fails.

Marvel changed the way movies are made, planned and created the new template for franchise-building. For better or for worse.

I think it was brilliant what he pulled off.. To have the mind set and patients to build this Universe.

Marvel taking their time to introduce all the characters in solo films was very smart and would not have worked as well if they stuck them all in one movie like DC did. You got to know the characters and then it was so cool to see those characters share the screen together. It really felt like a true crossover just like the comics.

However the fact that every studio is trying to do the same thing is a bit stupid. I don't mind Kong and Godzilla but the Universal Monster idea is a bit much.. Perhaps I would not feel that way if The Mummy did not suck as much as it did :lol

I thought the race thing gave the Vulture a good twist..

Flash was poorly done.

Yeah Aunt May is looks like she is 85 all the time in the comics :lol

3 very very good reasons- totally agree

That IS an incredible drop in ONE DAY!!!

But here's why: I did not see this. And there's a lot of 'me' out there. I'm not a comic book nerd who feels compelled to see every iteration of a hero rebooted every few years. If it sounds good, I'll see it. If not, it looses my money. Imagine millions of people feeling this way.... and you get 73% drop.

Wonder Woman wins the summer. You're going to get so sick of hearing this. :lol

Yep WW has real "legs" and blows all the others away....sort of surprising as I thought Spiderman would be very big.
I still say superhero fatigue is here and Thor 3 will be another indication of what is happening- I think that one will be a huge letdown box office wise.
These films are successful no doubt but no longer bottomless gold mines
