And obviously the drop doesn't mean much for some movies.

Punisher Warzone: 67
Suicide Squad: 67

SS went on to make Worldwide: $745,600,054
Punisher WZ - = Worldwide: $10,100,036

I liked it but it presented nothing new per Spidey flicks besides extremely forced diversity.

What was forced about the diversity?

No I don't think so. I mean I don't think it did. People loved it. Wonder why the drop was so big

May be it's just the oversaturation of superhero movies, so many similar stories, so many villian of the week, they all pretty much end the same. It definitely did not have the charm of watching the first Raimi Spiderman. Homecoming was fun and I enjoyed it, but it was nothing special. I felt they overdid the MCU connections, it was more of a will Spidey get to join the Avengers movie than him doing his own thing. Plus, the other Spidey movies still feel fresh and recent, this is Spidey's 3rd reboot and he's still a teenager going through the same things.

Maybe after two other versions of the character so close together people are a little spider-maned out. The inclusion of Ironman was not enough, especially after seeing so much in the trailers and in ads.

Dunno....only movie last two years I've seen repeated viewings was R1. I've found several cbm entertaining just nothing driving me to watch them more than once.

Maybe the burn out is real 😳

Maybe the burn out is real

I watched Ant-Man in theatres twice for the humour. R1 twice to take in all the art direction and battle scenes, same with The Force Awakens.

If anything I'm more burned out on Star Wars because there's a cynical edge to the way Disney presents and markets the franchise (evident only to cranky older audiences, I'm sure the kids are alright).

I agree that comic movies have very similar third acts and they reveal too much in trailers these days.

Pirates! You can't be serious.

Oh I'm serious.

But I knew from the beginning that a Pirates movie being #1 at the box office in this decade was a fool's dream. An installment of that franchise could be on par with Casablanca and it would still be overlooked today. :slap

I think the drop could be for a few reasons.. Mind you these are just my opinions.

1. It's the third reboot of the character.. Granted it stayed away from being an origin story but was it really all that different then the others? Other then being in the Marvel Universe what really made this film stand out from the other 5? A few people I know saw because that is what they do. They go see the most recent Marvel movie... But they were not excited for the film... Add me to that list.

2. Summers are just one blockbuster after the other... You have to hope for a huge 1st week and then you better hope nothing gets released the next week OR be something special that people want to see over again. Which leads me to the 3rd reason and the most controversial....

3. It just was not that good. Sure it was fun but it was void of emotion IMO.. Nothing stood out really as far as story, action, or character. It was a perfectly safe, emotionally boring film. Some may say that that is Marvel films in general but the best Marvel movies usually have something that you remember and want to see over again... IMO this film does not have that. Hell he was way more memorable in Civil War then this film. Other then Keaton this movie has nothing that really took it to the next level for a Spider-man movie. They should have aimed just a bit higher since this was the 6th film based on the character in a relatively short time.

I know people love it and I am not saying they are wrong.. But personally when I saw it I was not blown away and I did not think the film would have staying power, at the box office or the fans. Time will tell with the fans but I am not surprised about the box office.

Again its just my opinion... Hell I might love it when I watch it on Blu Ray but nothing about this film made me want to see it again in the theaters.

I think its just this simple.

People here rave on about the latest and greatest and then when the dust settles the truth becomes apparent.

I also think audiences are experiencing superhero burn-out. One-offs and teams are common-place formulas now. No WOW factor anymore. Even well-done ones don't 'thrill' they way they used to.

It's time for all-out crazy madness WAR! And even that may be tedious...

Yeah, that's why I know I need to let a first viewing 'settle'. With all of the stuff they're pumping out, I don't think they can all be gems.

As for Infinity War...I'll go see it like everyone else, even though I have a sneaking suspicion the best part of that movie may be the trailers with the super-epic important music and montages. ;)

It's not that these films suck, but not sucking isn't the same as awesome.

I think even Marvel and WB realize that it's time for the big war film before burn out takes over.

I'm still looking forward to Thor3/BP but i'm also looking forward to ending the 11 year ride and honestly no one can say that Marvel didn't deliver the goods.

The MCU run from 2008-2019 (IW2) WILL go down in cinematic history as a huge success.

But after IW2 I am out for the count, i'll have a great time revisiting them down the road.

They'll keep making them until they hit their Transformers 5 box office disaster.

It will certainly not be matched for success in our lifetimes. Whatever you think of Feige, he pulled it off for the most part. Even if everything hereafter fails.

Marvel changed the way movies are made, planned and created the new template for franchise-building. For better or for worse.

Can't be said better than that.

Feige is probably the most sought after executive in Hollywood.

You're not seeing the bigger picture though, there is no such thing as an MCU dud.

Seriously go look a their overall performances nothing can touch them other than Star Wars and..........

the Fast and the Furious series lol.

It still made a profit but the blame will always lie on Sony who made a half ass remake in 2012 and made a terrible movie in 2014 that dragged the character into the ground and made people annoyed with him. Now it's sad the character has to climb back up on top after terrible movies and tv shows.
