WTF!

I definitely don't want to talk movies and have a beer with you now, you sound like one of my exes. You'd chop me up if you could!

Aren't you one to talk! Just the other day my ex-wife was all "Wah, Harmy this, Jyn Erso that, why can't you go back to just loving Captain America, waaaaah." Good riddance. :lecture

Yeah right. You know you could totally be one of the top "grab a beer and talk movies with" guys here if you didn't try to troll and derail threads so much. Yeah I'm going there with tough love right here in the thread. You don't have to like a single freaking movie that comes out and you can go off about what you hate in SW, the MCU, and all of that like so many people here do or *like you just did about Homecoming* with karamazov.

Some of us are going to be superfans about whatever and yeah you can call it out if we can't shut up about it in every other thread (lol, I get it guys, I get it) but why try to make people who have loved this crap their whole lives feel like they're wasting their time trying to discuss this stuff? I'm just making general observations on past behavior here. Some of your roasts are hilariously entertaining, and some of your praise is damn spot on and insightful, but then there's this whole other side where you just piss on everything and do your whole "sowing discord" shtick. Come on now, all of these threads should be big enough for everyone here and the entire gamut of opinions from positive to negative without certain people trying to bring the enthusiasm in a thread way down every time they're in the mood.

And you know I haven't censored any of your opinions on Star Wars. But **** with my Felicity pic and yeah I'll cut that **** down. You know she's my girl, on and off screen! Okay maybe not off, she did just get engaged but hey, we'll always have 10 seconds in Orlando, lol. I'm trying to be funny here, and I'm trying to be light, but it's just going to be this big elephant in the room where if people just can't treat everyone else like bros and just be decent and respectful then it's that scene in Heat that I've referenced before. "Now that we're sitting here face to face like a couple of regular guys, then if I have to take you down I'm not gonna like it."

And I realize that at the end of the day I'm just another guy who wants to talk shop about movies so as a mod I try to recognize my own shortcomings, pick and choose my battles, and all that. It honestly kind of bums me out that I didn't see the version of you above where you just listened to karamazov's points, refuted some, acknowledged and agreed with others and so on back when we were having our big Rogue One back and forths (<--there you go Clown Prince I know you were waiting for that, lol) but...I'll get over it. I'll get over it. Really I will :) But still, just sayin'.

And with that let me give a semi-optimistic :duff

Is felicity your waifu?

I agree with you on that. A very Spidey-esque ending, apparently soon to be undone for the greater good of making Kevin Feige happy.

Oh great now SNIKT's going to be all:

I don't know. After his more recent posts, it seems that all SNIKT really cares about is that these movies are really bleak, brutal, and unfunny. Doesn't matter if the movies make no sense, have no artistic merit to them, etc. If Thanos gives us that (big "if"), then he may become an MCU fanboy after all.

Mmmm mmm, sounds like my kinda woman! Gimme me her number so I can show her a real man. Ain't no Harmy, Felicity Jones screen printed pillows or RO crap in my house.

Is felicity your waifu?

Uh, let me google that again.

*comes back*

No, it sounds like a waifu has to be fictional (Felicity is real), 2D (Felicity is very much not :D) and your "one and only" fantasy whatever. I'm not sure I can give her that kind of exclusivity as long as Margot Robbie is still in the world. :naughty

I actually thought Liz was a good level of pretty without being unrealistically or unrelatably gorgeous. And when Zendaya gets fixed up she'll basically look like Liz did. So I'm fine with how they're going with that. You could believe that a guy like Holland would be really into Liz, and that Liz could even find him appealing, so when "MJ" makes the transformation into that same look it could potentially be a nice "wowza I've had a Liz in sheep's clothing all along" moment.
It just isn't the character or the story.

Not at my high school :lol Though maybe things have changed with the "millennial" generation.
Yea, even though I graduated 10 years ago; the mainstreaming of nerdy hobbies and the change of intelligence to be an attractive quality has given guys like Peter a leg up in the dating department.

Its also why out of all the changes, Flash was the one I had the least problem with. The "dumb popular jock" stereotype is a bit outdated. These days, the popular kids are overachievers who need to be competitive at sports and academics. They are still self centered a-holes and bullies, just in a lot more of a passive aggressive way. I just wished that they had stressed the jock aspect a little more.

They could have made Liz MJ, and just changed Spidey's love interest altogether when she was forced to move cross-country. But again, I like how convention got turned on its head in this case. Mary Jane was never a great character in the comic, anyway. I remember in the '80s and '90s when some writers tried to flesh her character out a bit more, and it just led to some cringe-worthy story arcs. The best stuff she did--being there for Peter when he was at his lowest points--didn't require her to be a super-model.
I don't see anything wrong with that. What's wrong with a supporting character that exists to support the lead?

Well that should be an element to her. I'm just saying that that was the only real positive characteristic that MJ maintained. The rest wasn't well explored or utilized in the comics that I recall. So, she could have been anyone. Maybe if her defining personality trait wasn't "red headed super model," the writers would have had more to work with, and she could have been more valuable to the stories as a whole.

True she didn't really do all that much. But she was a character with at least some traits. At the very least there were some things which she was certainly not. Sullen, antisocial, frumpy, named Michelle, ect. Things with this MJ all were.

The Raimi MJ was my favorite. She was only good at three things, screaming, getting kidnapped, and looking 15 years older than Tobey, but she always had big bewbs while doing so, which was a nice distraction.

What's her face in HC is a better character, but does she have the bewbs? I don't think so. Plus she reminds me of Darlene from Roseanne. She is basically the same character, both in style and personality.

Difabio is worth keeping because hes one of the sharpest members we've ever had. His reasoning skills are why hes worth keeping.
Regardless if he hates the movies we like or not. I say that as someone that loves rogue one

See the new things from this movie that bothers some spiderman fans is what I love the most.

Spidey saying no to Stark's Avengers invite was just a necessary small character moment since we know he will join in IW.

The marriage of new and old is at the core of this movie.

Liz was what I call a gmo mcguffin living within the bigger mcguffin of white Toomes having an interacial marriage all in the service of the big plot reveal.

I love the Raimi movies but they only fulfill the solo experience.

It doesn't make sense to me to complain about a connected universe in a series of movies that Marvel said from the start were going to be all about a connected universe lol.

Like complaining about pizza being on the menu at a pizza restaurant.

The big problem was that until recently, the solo movies were all about a solo experience. There may be a couple references here and there that were fun to find, but largely the solo films were that individual hero's time to shine on their own.

Now every solo film is a mini-Avengers, with one or more others playing key roles.

This was especially noticeable in Spidey, because one of the key aspects of his character is his down-on-his-luck self reliance. Here, they basically turned him into Iron Lad.

Feige said in 2008 that solo movies in the MCU were still going to be in the service of connecting the universe.

I'll agree that some movies have accomplished that better than others but overall Marvel has done exactly what they promised.

And when the heroes are being turned into something they definitely aren't just to accommodate the shared universe (rather than the writers making the heroes as they are work) it becomes a problem. This is exactly where the DCCU went wrong. Placing more emphasis on the shared universe than making the characters shine in thier solo films so we actually care when they team up.

If doing things this way has been Marvels plan the whole time as you claim, it certainly wasn't how they made films until last year.

Been more hits than misses.

That's my Trash Panda impersonation if anyone is interested.

If anything my biggest complaint is that there hasn't been enough connections, looking at you GOTG, they're taking too long getting to IW!

Yeah so Thor hasn't been Superman strength yet but that might still materialize in Thor 3 from what i'm reading just so that Thanos can then squeeze his head lol or we didn't see peter crying for Uncle Ben.....again.
