While there is no guarantee that Thor and BP won't suffer the same fate as Spiderman I don't think they will.

Here's why.

Everyone is waiting for Thor to have his unique masterpiece moment and TR certainly looks like it's poised to be just that.

BP, that movie is going to be huge. Think of Get Out and Girls Trip level of success 10 fold! The black population is ready to make that movie a hit without the help of the general white movie going audience. Now add in that general white movie going audience AND geeks and that movie is ready to be quite the event.

Now IW is where I think you are 100% wrong.

People on these boards who HATE the MCU are eager to see IW lol.

Marvel has truly created a participation event, everyone will just want to see what the hype is all about.

IW will be what finally rewards the fans for having to sit thru a ton of average movies.

Well, I think the Russo's can pull it off. There does need to be a payoff to the culmination of these films, which has mostly been average in quality at best. I am looking forward to IW.

I think average is being sort of low browed isn't it? You might not like the movies, but many people do. And I would really hard pressed to say more than just a few are "bad" films. Most of them are at least more than serviceable and quite a few of them are very enjoyable. I think the mcu as a whole is pretty strong, thanks hugely to many of these actors and actresses they have gotten involved.

Exacly. I actually enjoyed all these movies. Even the ones people hate. Replay value maybe not that much for a few but definitely a good time the first time around lol.

Agree with your top 3...though maybe I'm being nostalgic but Avengers was perhaps my all time most fun time at a theater. It was such a blast I'm actually wanting to put it up there as well.

Guardians of the Galaxy as well for the kind if film it is. At least the first one. I never read the comics before than but people who have were happy with the product on screen. Though I did not really like the sequel.

Spider-man is definitely good.

Thor I have an issue with. I LOVED the Asgard scenes and I think those parts of the film is up there with the MCU's best but I did not care for the Earth scenes. Did not like Thor 2 much.

I didn't like IM3 but I've actually come to enjoy IM2 more over the years, especially the way Tony and Rhodes banter. It's not a great film, but like GotG2 I was too rough on it early on.

Avengers 2 was weak but I loved Civil War.

I think only a few film's are worst than average.

I forgot Spiderman. :slap

I added him to my good list lol.

To this day Avengers midnight show was the best audience participation experience I have ever had in my entire movie going career.

Exactly, same for me. I'll never forget that midnight showing. The hulk parts alone were incredible.

Thor is going to under perform(ok semi-bomb). There is no buzz except generated by Marvel
Thor can't hold a film so they bring in Hulk to rattle it up. No one cares

We are all awaiting IW

Disagree. While maybe 99.7% of folks may be waiting for IW, IMO this film is hardly gonna bomb, IMO for the following reasons:

1) Folks like me who aren't Spiderman fans and/or prefer more adult-ish superheroes have been waiting and waiting.:drool
2) Thor and Loki are hawt and that brings in Tumblr/fangirl contingent.
3) Thor fans. Loki fans. Hulk fans. MCU fans.
4) Hela. Cate friggin' Blanchett Hela (and she's hawt too...) Karl Urban as Skurge? Jeff Goldblum?
5) It's friggin' RAGNAROK
6) Hulk fighting Thor? AND Surtur?
7) Taika Waititi as director and lots of press about the set designs/colors e.g. film looks "fresh" and "different"
8) Dr. Strange/BC fans.
9) The trailers alone have massive views....

(Look, mags don't put up cover stories for movies if "no one cares" because they're tryin' to sell stuff.)

10) And maybe the most important reason is that anyone who does care knows re the MCU that Thor and BP are supposed to be some kind of lead-ins to IW. WITH supposedly an IW teaser or trailer. Supposedly.

Personally, I can't wait.

We come from the land of the ice and snow,
From the midnight sun where the hot springs flow.

Hammer of the gods will drive our ships to new land.
To fight the hordes and sing, and cry.

I guess I'm in the minority in thinking homecoming was a bit of a turd, ranking 'up' there with the Garfield disasters for a few reasons.

Spiderman was always my favourite hero he always had a air of realism and the source material was fantastic making spiderman who he is.

Things like Flash Thompson, the school jock/ bully who physically bullied peter as well as verbally this instilled a deep seated dislike of bullies and one reason why he will always stand up for the little guy, Flash as a fat little kid whos on the school quiz team, just doesn't work.

Then there's the whole aunt may/uncle Ben story arc, that's what drives him he could have saved Ben had he acted but he didn't thus not only causing his death but also depriving his aunt of her life long partner, the guilt of that, the remorse give him purpose.

In homecoming aunt may come across more as a 'oh well lets not cry over spilt milk: internet dating, singles bar good time girl' while Spiderman is just an Avengers wannabe.

Then theres the fat kid sidekick who he didn't see in that tiny room, the stupid 'super suit' that just seems to negate the whole point of spiderman, the super smart science parker who takes apart a alien gizmo with a hammer! Please, I realise Marvel were going for a reboot but did they really have to change quite so much?

I think they strayed way to far from what makes Spiderman, Spiderman and on the whole I found it most disappointing and personally even the Thor trailers are better than Homecoming.

And thats why i find movies subjective. I loved the spider man 1+2. I liked some parts of 3 (it was mostly a disaster). I HATED the amazing sm 1+2. I guess the first was ok but damn that second one. Now going into homecoming i knew it would be different. And i was ok with that. No way i could go through the same setup as the previous movies. I enjoyed it more than i expected to.

Wait what? Did you just diss Spider-Man and say more adult superheroes? Do you even read the comics? Yea the world can't wait for another lackluster Thor movie who is so boring they needed to put the hulk in it. Just gonna be another slap stick comedy. Black panther will be the real movie to get hype for.

Ok to clarify I'm talking films here. That said, in Homecoming he's depicted as coming-of-age, and Spidey's a young superhero in the other Spideys as well. Is there something wrong with that? Nope. Does that make Spidey my fav superhero even if globally Spidey is up there wth Batman and Superman in popularity? Nope. So? I still saw Homecoming. Twice. Had a great time and impressed.

Hafta agree to diagree about Thor and BP. I think Marvel's directors have done an amazing job with humor and serious moments in their films. Don't know about "better" just "different". And I don't know where folks get the utter sureness that BP will be great. The deck is pretty stacked for it to do well, sure. But it's still an unknown, pretty much, right now. And I don't NEED a comic book movie to be so "dark and gritty" it feels like I guzzled a gallon of movie popcorn grease. Speaking of boredom.

There is nothing adult-ish looking about Ragnarok. The most horrific part appears to be....thor getting his hair cut.

O ok well I still do t think Thor will be any different from homecoming. It'll be huge fights and spectacle but I don't think it will be a sure fire game changer. The only thing that I'm interested in is how Thor got where he is in the leaked infinity war trailer. Now that will be interesting , other than that it's just gonna be the same ho hum movie thor movie with hulk. Could be wrong tho.

IMO fair enough. And I can see (from the comics) that some fans would want to see a characters depicted a certain way. I mean, I get frustrated at times with Marvel grimly hanging onto that PG rating, just because some censor might get upset over seeing too much blood or something:cuckoo:. Hadn't thought about it re Thor but guess I don't need him to be a game changer 'coz that's not how I see the movie character.
I'm happy with the current Thor and Loki and Hulk doing their thing in films.

But I'm gonna guess that's the thing with Thor. That there will be lots of cheekiness and spectacle (also re the release date, closer to the holidays folks I think want that...Thor, JL, SW...). But I think there'll be a dark undercurrent in Thor too. And stuff we've never seen on screen, like Sakaar.

And meanwhile in Wakanda...Ryan Coolidge already said BP's gonna have a darker, grittier treatment.

For me tho re Marvel all that is one of the things I like about this "Golden Age of Comic Book Movies". That Marvel has picked great directors and let those directors do their thing, so there's lots of different flavors but it all seems be coming together re IW. I really like seeing those colors and designs and spectacle from Taika Waititi, the way Jon Watts handled Spiderman, Joe Johnston's classy handling of the First Avenger, Peyton Reed's Antman, and most of all for me the *fabulous* Russos:love.

So if Thor ends on kind of dark note, really...and then BP starts sort of happy re the trailer e.g. T'Challa at least coming home...and Spidey in theory is off bein' the friendly neighborhood Spiderman but maybe feeling a BIT less un-cool, and Tony is still not talking to Cap but at least he's got Pepper...e.g. I like the idea of a gathering storm and maybe it's in BP where there's the first real warning that Thanos is coming.

It's all gonna be AWESOME:cool:
