But then i think of xmen franchise and think wasnt first class a "soft" reboot? Them there was batman forever which was a reboot but also a continuation of tim burtons batman? Aw f me lol

Days of future past made first class a straight prequel. It is just a straight prequel now.

Batman forever mentions the previous movie i think, plus the same butler actor connects all four movies.
Batman forever is a sequel because it continues thr story

Don't forget Matrix Reloaded and Apocalypse Now Redux to muddy the waters even further, lol.

Yeah, i am sure reboot means same characters but different story.

The jumanji reboot sequel thing is not a remake because the story changes.

I'm not sure if there is a single definitive quality that separates the two, but maybe it depends on the movie. Rise of the Planet of the Apes is a reboot because is a new story based on the events of the original film, but because it's not the same story, it's not a remake.

The James Bond franchise probably created or at least popularized the concept of reboots, since the Roger Moore films aren't sequels to the Connery films. However, certain actors from the previous series always return, so there is some connection to the previous movies, but they don't directly acknowledge it.

I now think that more often than not a movie is a "reboot" if it doesn't *need* a new cast but they use the excuse of a different actor to simply start things over. So if previous actors are dead or too old and a studio wants to present a new version of a story for a new audience then typically that would be a remake. But ASM for instance was considered a reboot instead because they could have easily continued with Maguire and instead done SM4. So in previous decades you wouldn't call something like King Kong, The Thing, or The Fly a reboot because so much time had passed since the previous iterations.

But now with studios repackaging and reintroducing the same characters every 2-5 years now the process is more akin to rebooting a computer which happens much more often than some old classic being remade.

Lol asm was considered an untold story remember? Kinda funny how that untold story was the same damn story that had nothing to do with the previous movies. If Sony was smart they'd soft reboot it with Andrew's spidey taking place before spiderman 2 with Peter fighting the lizard and it sort of intertwines with the rami movies.
To bad Sony is stupid and ran by idiots.

Redid uncle ben's death in a lazy and horrible way.

Peter finds out the guy who shot ben through a drawing. He also never finds him. So it was like what was the point then?

Also uncle ben damn near shot himself. But yea spiderman 3 messed up up completely to. Sandman being ben's killer was utterly stupid.
