I wouldn't throw out the possibility of Simmons returning just because he won an Oscar. If he enjoyed the role (which sounded like he did) and it doesn't require too much of his time, combined with the exposure from a Marvel movie, he may just do it for cheaps. Marvel's managed to land Anthony Hopkins and Glenn Close for supporting roles, both of whom have had plenty of nods from the Academy and Hopkins even winning back in '92, and we know Marvel Studios can be stingy on payroll (unless your initials are RDJ), so could still happen with Simmons.
I personally don't mind the lack of continuity, having Simmons would be a nice nod to the Raimi trilogy and let's face it, he's iconic in that role.
