Ahem... I reiterate:

Yup, and it appears his role in Civil War is getting smaller the longer this takes...

According to LR however, their insiders claim the frontrunner is Asa Butterfield and that he has been for a while. There’s nothing official on this front yet outside of Marvel actively searching for a star to play Parker and the beginning of production on Captain America: Civil War before the end of the month. Given the timing of the Sony-Marvel partnership and pre-production on Civil War, it’s unclear how big of a role Spider-Man has in the film.

I wasn't expecting him be much of an impact in Civil War, if he was a major plot point, it would've felt forced fed

Of all of the Marvel films to date, I'm most worried about this one. I trust Marvel though. But I agree, hopefully, they back off on Spidey's influence.

So the official title is new avenger?

Re: Marvel Studios/Sony - SPIDER-MAN: THE NEW AVENGER

He really didn't in the story

I don't know if I'd agree with that. I always saw him as the 'face' of Team Pro-Registration (at least initially). I think he influenced a lot of others to join Tony.

Which is why if they can't set this up right, I'd rather they just not use him at all. I know that sounds contradictory, but he's almost too important of a role to screw up. In the same vein, I feel Reed had somewhat of important role. Hard for me too imagine a 'Civil War' adaption without it....which is why where my skepticism comes from. I just don't see how they can pull this off appropriately. It's Marvel, and I trust them. Plenty of time, but my expectations are huge for this one, if they go the direction I anticipate them to.

Well look at it this way. He doesn't have enough pull in the MCU like his comic 616 counterpart. I mean he's in highschool, relatively new on the scene compared to the other heroes, why would he be able to convince anyone to join either side?

I rather just have him in the background, maybe some one liners, thwip thwip, and off to this movie

Well I'd say Punisher, Sue and Reed, Spidey, and Daredevil had to be some of the big players in CW. It's been a while since I read it; but they had a lot to do because of the neutrality they possessed.

If it is it's an awful awful title.

I agree. It's way too on the nose. Why does he have to get that title but Stephen, T'Challa, or Carol don't? Not like they need it. It only made sense for Cap since they mainly needed the subtitle for international audiences. Just call it The Spectacular Spider-Man!

Just hope the costume doesn't suck.

And has actual web pattern and not just a bunch of straight lines.
