Promoting charity, compassion, foreign aid, the value of stepping out of your comfort zone to help others, etc., are all awesome themes to promote. Linking such themes via sound bite to one of the most corrupt and divisive political figures in modern history was a terrible move however.

That said Coogler seems like a good guy and I'm glad that audiences who may have felt long neglected are having their day to enjoy a huge popcorn event film geared toward them. Based on the box office earnings said audiences should be treated to many more such films to come. I'd just hope that they dial back on the divisive rhetoric going forward.

I personally dont hate the movie. Or even hate the messages in the movie. I just find it kind of a problem that they ended it like if Wakanda isn't going to be attacked or Invaded as soon as the villains of the marvel universe find out about it.
That would actually be kind of cool for a Black Panther 2 sequel (If there was no avengers infinity war)

The sequel could be about how a lot of poor sick people are trying to immigrate to Wakanda and Wakanda doesnt have enough space or food to help everyone, and then at the same time some terrorist organizations like Hydra are trying to steal their Vibranium and trying to either take over or blow them up.
So a Black Panther 2 dealing with a refugee problem and then separately dealing with some Hydra terrorist attacks would actually be an amazing and incredible movie. Would probably be like the Dark Knight in levels of quality (Since the Dark Knight itself dealt with terror threats)

I just find it naive and kind of stupid that a lot of people on social media want to ignore or dont talk about why Wakanda is so great in the first place.
Every time someone from america says "I WANT TO VISIT WAKANDA OMG!!!!" I Laugh because they would NOT be allowed in Wakanda.... no one would.

I love how Wakanda is touted as being the most magical and awesome society on Earth and yet where does T'Challa's sister dream of visiting? Disneyland. Subtle, Iger, real subtle, lol.

the tone of my reply is not towards you either lol. but the movie wants to have its cake, and eat it too.

The ONLY reason Wakanda prospered and became such a incredible place was due to Trump like Policies. the only reason they are as technologically advanced and powerful is due to extremely strict immigration policies and their sense of nationalism.
Wakanda proves to anyone that in order to succeed you need a Homogeneous society like Japan (Which Ironically Japan IS as advanced as Wakanda in real life... Japan is kind of like the real life Wakanda with their strict immigration and technological advancement)

So thats what the movie tells us about the prosperity of the country and how they never got "COLONIZED"

but then at the end they want to have their cake and eat it too by telling us that Even though opening the borders can hurt Wakanda in the long run, it is the "Right thing to do"
even though the only reason Wakanda even exists is because of their isolation, they must open up their country to others and become part of the same world that would have HURT them 100 years ago..... the same world with Terrorists like the Mandarin or threats like Ultron or villains like Loki.....

okay movie, yeah.... what a beautiful ending. lets open the doors to all kinds of external problems like sickness and terror attacks and famine that Wakanda never had before....Because we all know that the Villains of this universe wont have a lot of motives to now attack Wakanda and Invade it.
BRAVO movie BRAVO

Really good posts, you both summed up exactly what I think after seeing it concerning the political aspects (and the insane blindness of those who are advocating the movie in those respects) so I won’t get into those myself at this point. Also I really like crows idea for a sequel lol. Everyone coming to wakanda to raid it.

Not counting the above however and looking at the movie based on its merits as a CBM I’d give it a 7/10. It was very predictable and the story didn’t really ‘take me for a ride’ in any way. The visuals, the colours and textures were lovely however outside of CG which looked more fake than the phantom menace somehow. It’s an average movie but nothing that can really be faulted either. It’s odd that all the action in this film was worse than the few moments he had in CW.

For me Killmonger is the #2 villain after Thor/avengers Loki (I find him boring at his point however). However that’s not saying much as MCU villains have been weak as hell. Say what you will about MoS but I still think Zod is the best villain of the current extended universe films.

As for this whole ‘cultural’ phenomenon thing that’s going on - with them dressing up in traditional African clothing and going to the premieres etc - I think it speaks more on a failure of Africa to export its culture in a meaningful way than the cultural success they’re making it out to be. Where I live there are a lot of East Indian and Chinese people. They play their movies in the theatres as well. You don’t see them dressing up and going to the movies, that’s saved for cultural events and weddings. Movies are just movies, and they don’t give them this importance because their own film industries are exporting their culture all the time. It’s the same for Japanese or Korean friends I have, Filipino, etc.

However Africa and the Middle East have both been consumed with so much infighting that they have nothing for those who live abroad to connect with. I’m reminded of Riz Ahmed having that speech at some UK political event about having young muslims cast more often so they can feel like James Bond etc and not fall into the troubled youth or terrorist trap. Again, Indians and Chinese may want to be actors here but no one would have to say such things to ‘raise their level up,’ so to speak, such as how BP has ‘raised’ the values of blackness now. It’s a dang movie. And it’s no citizen Kane, or even a Batman Begins (the pinnacle of CBMs in my mind).

But it’s not a bad movie either, for whatever it’s worth. I also loved Shuri. I want that hot toy with her battle look something fierce. If nothing else happens, I hope that happens.

I want to see namor fight black panther in the next movie. That’d be a spectacle to see.

You mean you seriously hate this film because some nobody on YouTube doesn't like it? :lol

Have you even seen it yet?

Wakanda never opened its boarders in the end though... DId it???

I mean they were going to start reaching out and helping other needy people with their tech.. But it was still a hidden Kingdom right??

They still are keeping everyone else out.

Saw this tonight. It had a lot of likable characters played well by their respective actors but alas I found it to be an overly long "filler" movie that did little to increase my excitement for Infinity War, if anything it has somewhat diminished my excitement.

A lot of Wakanda reminded me of Naboo and the tribal sequences often had a silly King Kong/Cool Runnings vibe to them. The final battle was fun in parts but pretty "Narnia-esque" in how tame the violence was. T'Challa quoting Hillary Clinton's "we build bridges not walls/barriers" slogan was not appreciated. I *never* want to hear her words coming out of the lips of any superhero that I'm supposed to root for.

But all in all the movie was decent enough for a single viewing. I don't see myself making any effort to watch it all the way through again though.

After The Last Jedi I never thought we would agree on a movie again. Nice to have "Good" Khev back ;) :lol

:lol :lol

Nice to have the "Good" JAWS back instead of the one where you went to the Bahamas in search of Mrs. Brody. :D

I bet "The Shallows" is looking a whole lot better after BP's bloodless waste of a PG-13 rating eh? ;)

The sequel to Black Panther should be the U.N. forcing Wakanda to take all the refugees from cities that the avengers destroyed when saving the world, Like avengers 1 or Age of ultron. Those people that have nowhere to go because Hulk destroyed their homes.
Yes, Wakanda should take them in, that would be such a beautiful story.

And it seems that most are in agreement that Shuri and Killmonger were two of the film's major highlights. I also agree that Batman Begins is the pinnacle of cbm's with regard to filmmaking quality.

evulchibi:
I drew the black panther t’Chala from the recent hit movie black panther.
havent seen the movie yet, i hope its good

Edit
some of you have pointed out in the comments that i made an error with the race and also my sexual preference .
But does it matter what race Tchalla is? There are white people in Africa too. Or this could be a side effect of the vibranium.
A lot of white characters are made black, so whats the problem now? You guys are being hypocrites

EDIT 2.0
People saying that he has to black because of some stupid reason that hes from africa.
Thats bull**** , that means that Heimdall has to be white because hes a Norse mythology god
who are all white yet he was made black

Edit 3.0
people in the comments want me to apologize.
Im sorry you people get ******** over trivial things like skin color.

Edit 4.0
funny how a lot of black tumblr accounts claim BP belongs to them yet BP was created,
greenlighted produced by white people. Funny how what belongs to you wasnt even made by you.
Must be sad to have a fiction movie be the only thing that evaluates your existence. Its not real lol

Edit 5.0
Just because he has black in the name doesnt mean he has to be a black man.
For example black atom, black bolt, black widow, black canary
Its obvious a lot of non comic book fans are commenting here.
Please stop you know nothing about the lore

Edit 6.0
Thanos used the Infinity Gauntlet to change him white. End of story

Enjoy
