Maybe the critical response but certainly not the box office. Perceived social debts tend to evaporate once the actual pocket book enters the picture.

Coming to America is Eddies best movie in my opinion. It's a Classic 80s comedy I can rewatch over and over. Black Panther is a Cultural experience I can and will be watching over and over too. It's hitting audiences emotionally the same way Titanic and Avatar did.

satires and comedies dont count. Black Panther took itself 100% seriously and took the subject seriously and didn't have any jokes about itself. Thats why Tyler Perry movies dont have the impact this has.

I don’t believe that or understand it at all. Why would people even spend the time, nevermind the money, to earn some intangible cred?

I believe in the simplest explanation being the most likely in this case: it’s a pretty-good movie that appeals to the franchise homers and the black audience specifically with the added benefit of sjw media coverage attracting those disinclined to see comic movies.

Nobody is spending $15 + 2hrs a pop for imaginary culture points.

I think beyond it simply hitting a chord with audiences in general, I'm sure it's seen as something long overdue with many African Americans. Totally understandable, finally a segment of the population has a super hero movie to call their own, but beyond that it's also a decent movie that connects with people of all races, except you, of course.


I doubt it will beat Avatar, but who knows. Infinity war will soon steal it's thunder.

Never before have Comic book fans ever witness and experience a comic book movie this incredibly great and close to the comics.

This beats 300 and Sin city for comic accurate movie ever made. It makes those look like absolute VOMIT
