X-Men v. Brotherhood
Superman v. Zod
Batman v. Joker (Burton's Batman)
Wonder Woman vs. Ares (essentially her brother)

I'm fine with the doppleganger villain in the first outing. You don't want to see the hero go up against someone who is underpowered that they can simply squash. If they face someone overpowered, they usually only win as a result of luck, coming up with some last minute idea, or outside intervention. Generally you don't have a way to gauge the hero's power and skillset, so a comparably powered foe is they way to test them. Sure it doesn't have to be the same type of powers, but in these types of stories the villain is the dark mirror to the hero. To win against a similarly powered (or slightly superior) adversary, the hero has to find something within himself or herself that earns the victory. The second outing is where you can branch out into different challenges or power sets. For example in IM2, Iron Man took on Mandarin, I think Hulk2 would have been The Leader, hopefully Man of Steel 2 will be Brainiac, and so on. So I'm sure Blank Panther 2 would introduce an entirely different type of villain.

I also think this trend is going to continue for some of the new properties. Reverse Flash is practically guaranteed to be Flash's villain in Flashpoint. It's possible Green Lanterns might take on Sinestro's Corps (although they might hold that for GL2, and then culminate with color wars in GL3. That said, we do know that Shazam's first villain won't be Black Adam and Ms. Marvel will be fighting against the Skrulls.

I dunno why I didn't think about it before, but...

Iron Man vs Iron Monger ------ armor vs armor
Hulk vs Abomination ---------- Hulk vs Hulk
Captain America vs Red Skull - supersoldier vs supersoldier
Thor vs Loki ----------------- Asgargian vs Asgardian
Ant-Man vs Yellow Jacket ---- armor vs armor
Doctor Strange vs Kaecilius -- sorcerer vs sorcerer
Black Panther vs Killmonger -- armor vs armor

HOLY CRAP, the formula is real. Super ****ing real!

All of those makes sense though.
I'm not sayin' it doesn't...

Venom makes sense because: a) it used to be Peter's suit; b) Eddie's obsessed with Spidey.
It's perfectly fine that the combination on these two would makes perfect anti Spidey character.

Red Skull makes sense because he's still the head of his organization who wants to rule and doesn't like to do everything himself.
He's not just a brawler who runs around Rogers. He has his troops to do that.
Him and Rogers bein' supermen is more of a metaphor.

Loki knows that he's no match for Thor. He even looks like a tall dweeb.
He'd use deception and tricks to gain advantage.

___

But that's it. There's nothing cool or unique about Hulk vs Hulk, sorcerer vs sorcerer, armor vs armor, etc

... just that MCU milked this formula dry with their mediocre movies.

Ok, he actually looks pretty good here.
New helmet works without small derpy white eyes.

New poster releases - now that we've had comedy and badassery, time for some BADASSERY and beauty.....

Fun fact:
Famous Portuguese chronicler Duarte Barbosa once wrote about the usage of chakram in the Delhi Sultanate: ”…they have steel wheels, called chakarani, ten inches abroad, sharpened outside like knives, but dull inside; and their surface is of the size of a plate. And they carry eight of these each, on their left arm or on their turban; and they always take one and put it on the finger of their right hand, let it spin around many times, and then they hurl it at enemies, and when they manage hit anyone on the arm or leg or neck, it often cuts through. And with these chakarani they carry on much of the battles, and they are very dexterous in using them.”

Chakram could be also used as a melee weapon in close combat, to slice enemy’s throat, or cut off his arm. Similar close combat weapons, called wind-and-fire wheels were used in ancient China.

If you think there won't be tons of comedic moments you're in denial. :lol

I'll bet you on that one:cool:....I'll bet you my next probably useless SSC coupon:lol. 'Coz I already read that Coogler's going for the gritty treatment. At least in the U.S. re our history of social issues I think Coogler won't mess about. Heck, he's already shown footage to the Congressional Black Caucus. Even the trailer line "what happens here, determines what happens to the rest of the world".

Wrongly or rightly this film is something of a social-political thing here...not sure how the rest of the world feels beyond wanting a good movie.:dunno Me, past all that, it's more like "will it make the shelf test" e.g. re-watchability. So far Homecoming is the only one for me that's failed - not 'coz it's a bad film IMO; it's just for me unlike First Avenger or IM or even Thor I don't find it really re-watchable.

Ragnarok passed the shelf test for me tho.

It's not gonna be a good adaptation of Black Panther comics, that's for sure.
The social-political things should serve the plot and not vise versa.
I don't expect this to be The Winter Soldier 2.0 :dunno

Idk, aside from Priest's run and a few select short runs idk of the BP comics are all that amazing. And I'm a fan of the character. Even the Priest run got a little loopy and sloppy towards the middle and end. In many cases, the best T'challa moments are in other people's books or group titles.

I don't mean any of the social subplots going on as long as it pertains to Wakanda itself and it's neighbors. As long as T'challa isn't walking around Harlem running into horrid stereotypes and trying to "blend in".

It looks regal and elegant. Some aspects remind me of Skyfall's visual style for Bond. Then you have the obvious African and advanced influences.

I hope the acting and action are up to par and the writing is taken seriously. I truly hope the scene where he is in the spirit world or whatever is one of the more powerful moments in the MCU. If they can cover those than I think it will be a great addition to the character's mythos.

I had to sit through a JL trailer before Ragnarok. Would have preferred this for sure.

I got JL, SW, Downsizing, and BP at Ragnarok showings. To be fair in IMAX 3D the JL trailer looked better than I'd seen online - it's the one w. Cyborg flying Aquaman, can't keep track of all the JL trailers.

BP to me looked great. SW off the charts visually. Think BP could use a few tweaks here and there re the CGI, but nothing that really bothers me. Figure they are still working on BP before release too. The trailer scenes w. T'Challa walking up to the tree and the Panthers fighting in a vibranium mine? were stunning.
