Agreed. It makes me worry about Black Panther. I'm lowering my expectations. People acting like it's a masterpiece? I'm wary of that. I don't expect it to be anything but "awesome" in the vein of Thor Ragnorak or Spider-man:Homecoming. I'll watch it, have a wonderful time, and buy the blu ray and some hot toys from it. lol. Now every now and then, one of these becomes a personal favorite that gets repeated more often than others(I really loved Guardians of the Galaxy volume 2 and even the first Thor film and have seen them more often then some of the others) but that's rare. As far as Wonder Woman goes, I thought it was really good but not "change the world" good or anything. More like, well, it's just as much fun to watch as most of the Marvel films and not the somewhat enjoyable trainwrecks that it's DC bretheren were.

After watching online clips not comfortable with the online gushing re this film - Vanity Fair and very few others have gently pointed out those kinds of premiers invite guests who are probably gonna have a positive view or at least be polite. As marketing goes LOL Disney is terrifying. :lol

But you can't hide questionable CGI. I guess that's subjective too - like a lot of people have mentioned something about "fake Norway" in Ragnarok but sure looks good to me. Odin and his sons is a favorite scene for me. But one YT clip I looked at for BP was SO video game. Later I thought about the way the Winter Soldier's arm plates move and lock together in TWS or even some Transformers shots or the T-rex and, I think the BP scene I saw isn't impressive. Not when the Antman CGi is jaw-dropping IMO.:clap LOL Pez:lol

Re BP already skipping fan event and opening weekend, so for me it's whether I bother to go to theater at all. Gonna guess that this film is very good,:dunno but not great. Maybe DS level wth some standout moments but not CW, Ragnarok, TWS level e.g. a film where it comes together. Script, performances, narrative, effects, pace. (Like I don't care for Bale but the Batman movies IMO are carefully made; consistent aesthetic and tone.)

LOL I was probably most hyped for BP out of three pre-IW films; ended up liking Homecoming way more than I thought and Ragnarok was nothing I expected but loved that. I'll be interested in full BP reviews when the embargo lifts Feb 6, for whatever credible IMO info they have. To be fair tho I am a Russo fan and a fan of some of the other MCU directors' styles, so maybe I unconsciously expect that with BP.:dunno

That CG HAS to be unfinished work - it HAS to be. I would be shocked if Marvel let anything that looked like that hit an IMAX screen. That party fight scene also has some **** combat choreography, looks like it was performed at .25x and never sped up in post. The Daredevil hallway fight should be the standard Marvel goes for now.

I like the theme, it's neat to see a new part of the MCU.
I like the character so far with the little I know.
I like the style, it's visually unique.

But my goodness there's no way that this is bringing people to tears. I'm expecting this to fall somewhere around Ant Man. A fun movie but not a stand out like TWS. I do hope this retains a more serious tone like TWS, Marvel needs some of that again.

I'm not buying the tech though. It's too out there and space-y for Earth MCU just yet.

Though if the CG literally makes it to the film like that, all bets are off. That's inexcusable. I highly doubt it though, after all, apparently they've post-fx'd the eyes on his helmet because people didn't like them. If they can budget that...

Yeah, agree with comments about the aesthetic and the character. Maybe other actors could have played T'challa but IMO Boseman is a standout choice. The CW scene with Zemo gets me every time. BP if nothing else IS supposedly serious - some mild joking between family members but nothing like Ragnarok or Homecoming.

Since I was hoping for a lot of Africa, I was happy to read about the incorporation of language: https://qz.com/1192662/black-panther-wakandas-language-is-isixhosa-of-south-africa/

Tony Award-winning South African actor John Kani plays the first Black Panther and old king of Wakanda, T’Chaka. In the Marvel Studios film, Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa takes over the most technologically advanced yet isolated African kingdom after his father is killed.

“There are words used to indicate that those people’s indigenous language is not English,” said Kani. “But you know this is an American major blockbuster, therefore it will be 99.9% English. However, you’ll hear some isiXhosa words being dropped.”

With the line, “I miss you my son, I haven’t seen you in a long time,” Kani introduced isiXhosa into the film’s script, he told journalists at the film’s world premiere in Los Angeles on Jan 29.

But YT posters say the party fight is the same one shown at SDCC that got a standing ovation. So I don't know at this point if anything else is gonna be done. Do films ship to theaters ahead of time? Just doesn't seem like there is time left. Or money maybe.

Guess for holdouts like me tho it doesn't matter,:dunno assuming most films make the most opening weekend. A few days ago while you could still get tickets to the fan event (except at a city theater I never go to re traffic and parking) tickets were selling well in general. Not TLJ fan event level, but theater owners were probably happy. Plus a lot of people don't seem to care. I read one comment responding to a blog that said "it doesn't matter if it's trash" e.g. the important thing was Black Panther had his own film.

I'd argue that 'coz who wants to be in, or as a customer buy, a movie like Suicide Squad that made millions but got thrashed? Wasn't the actors' fault. Am just a bit bummed if BP ends up having stuff where I get thrown out of the movie. Silly CGI, not-awesome fights, or plz no slipping accents LOL.

But again to be fair - trailers and clips. There's movies where I got burned 'coz a trailer was so good, and movies like Antman where I was kind of "whatever" and really end up enjoying.

Do they make such a big deal about him being a king in the comics?

It made the 11 o'clock news that a group is supposedly going to flood sites with bad reviews.

Fake news?

I just looked on there. Actually, I don't see where it's being hit.

I'll try to dig up the image I saw. Meanwhile, Facebook and others are patting themselves on the back for shutting down the most vocal group. Honestly haven't been paying that much attention as IMO ticket sales will speak for themselves, no matter what anonymous folks are bickering over online.

The Disney conspiracy theory (e.g. loading negative votes etc. against DC movies online) is pretty funny tho. Or sad.

Edit: Check https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1825683/ratings?ref_=tt_ov_rt

E.g. the rating spread - for one thing, far as I know the only people who have seen BP were invited guests to a premier unlikely to rate it low. For another, these are bogus anyway the movie isn't out. At this point don't even know if IMDB has stopped any ratings of BP like other sites.
