You still need to have a certain EMS rating to get the "good" destruction ending. BUT - if you do the two DLC's (Leviathan and Omega) you get more assets which may just give you enough - if you are close right now.
if i am not mistaken the Extended Cut also lowers the requirement. I know that continuing from ME2 gives you some assets as well.

I think you are correct. I believe you need your assets to be at least 6200 if your readiness level is 50%. I think mine ended up being around 7000 which is what you needed before for the Sheperd lives ending.
I thought I read that with the extended cut version, there is no point requirement for that extra scene at the end of the strawberry flavor ending.
My first (pre EC) play through I chose mint flavor so not sure.
My 2nd playthrough (with EC and Leviathon) I chose strawberry and got it, but can't remember the score.
This is what I found:
The Extended Cut has lowered the EMS required to achieve all available endings to 3100, which is now easily obtainable with single player alone.
I am assuming you need 3100 or more to get that extra scene with the red ending.
The new DLC might expand on the ending more.
They've got all the writers and main voices back for the next one.
Supposedly a very emotional story.

Haven't checked the details but isn't the new DLC involves the Citadel? I can't see how they're going extend the ending beyond adding some more scenes to the available endings.
I'm actually hoping the new DLC would be about the people in the Citadel escaping the attack of the Reaper and Cerberus. I know at least Jacob and Zaeed got away since we talked to them near the end of the game.

When I say "extend" I mean fill in gaps and tie up loose ends some more. But nothing as extensive as what has come before. This is conjecture on my part as they reference high emotional content as well as the principles returning and all writers are contributing.
Add the fact that they must be getting close to wrapping up all DLC for this game and moving on to other projects so I'm sure they want fans to have as satisfying a feeling about this saga as possible.
This article confirms my 2 cents imo:
