It's also amazing how comparatively few active lines Mattel has compared to someone like Hasbro given that Mattel is I believe twice the size of Hasbro in terms of yearly revenue.

Hot Wheels, Barbie, Fisher Price, and Monster High are cash cows for Mattel. They really don't need to win the action figure aisle with those other properties making a killing across the globe. I think they are pretty happy having WWE and Batman in the fold for boys toys.

Amazing how many toy licenses are simply being sat on.

Probably because Walmart isn't going to buy into those properties. Hasbro and Mattel don't do much if Walmart isn't on board.

MOTU represents Mattel's only really boy franchises that can make money beyond toys.
Boy franchises are the ones that make the biggest money, especially in movies. So if Mattel want in on the big game, they really need to cherish and nurture MOTU and creativity instead of thinking of the quick fast buck or bottom line.

Sorry lads. Last few pics of the CG I promise!

Yeah that's looks great there actually. Nice work.
I feel I need to add bit of black to mine now. :D

What did you use for the crown piece there?

The action figure aisle is dominated by media related properties. There isn't much you will find on the shelves that doesn't have a current movie or television show to support the marketing and sales of that product. Until MOTU gets a new one of those I don't think Mattel can sell it to retail.

And yet there is MOTUC doing series damage for a few years now with no media at all.
Thundercats came and went in that time. MASK doesn't even get a look in.

Mattel need to perk up as realise what they have and look after it if they want to be in the boys toys game with their own licence, which I guess is my main point.

The sooner we can get all these figs the better. I don't hold out much hope for future toylines because the oil prices are absolutely killing the hobby right now. With the 4H scaling down their Powerlords stuff to 3.75 inches, this may be the last great 6-7 inch line we'll see for a very long time.

Are they really scaling them back? wow!

I don't see how it will be the last 6" line. Hasbro is coming out with 6" Star Wars figures soon that are looking really good.

MOTU has done well for an online only collectors product, but I don't think it's selling good enough for Mattel to think they can market it at the retail level. They have to put money into a new cartoon or hope that the movie gets off the ground before that will happen.

Honestly though I much prefer the online model to what we would probably get out of a retail line. It would be lots of He-man/Skeletor variants and the figures would probably get cost reduced losing articulation, paint apps, and accessories to fit into the $15 price range. Not to mention wasting gas and time chasing after the one per case figures and store exclusives. I would much rather have them shipped to my house each month even if they cost more.

That...
Would be...
So...
Much...
Awesome.

But it would never happen from mattel

No way hasbro would liscense it out to them.

Aw crap, I forgot that Hasbro bought D&D.

Out of the 370 choices (sorry Khev, just too many to list and about half of them were very obscure characters [basically any character in the MOTU canon you can think of and more]), I voted for:

He-Man
Man at Arms
Teela
Battlecat
Sorceress

Skeletor
Beastman
Evil-Lyn
Mer-Man
Trap Jaw

Oh wow. I assumed it was a select list of 30 or something. Yeah if they gave almost 400 choices I certainly don't need to see them all. :lol It'll be interesting to see which ones they choose. 10 is alot to cram onto the box art.

Yeah, those were 2ups at Toy Fair apparently. :(

If there's one brand that could weather a storm, it's Star Wars. Of course the big story with them right now is Hot Toys. Don't forget the quest for the perfect 1/6 scale Chewie!

You are kind of missing my point, I am not talking about retail.
I am only talking about what Mattel has in terms of boys brands.
Boys brands make the biggest money in entertainment and MOTU is Mattel's only brand than has that potential.

Mattel are bringing back Max Steel but I don't see that fairing too well.

MOTU is the only brand that Mattel has that can compete with Star Wars Transformers or Turtles.

Matt Tracker got a Gi joe figure. and from what I recall, it was REALLY POORLY recieved. so, no mask revival.

of course it was poorly recieved...M.A.S.K does not belong in GI Joe,especially in that scale

they were going to revive the old (scale) line
