Mattel: DC Universe Classics

I swear Mattel likes to save all DCUC annoucements for SDCC and Toy Fair. Like last year they showed off the Gotham 5 pack for the first time and LESS than a month later it was found at Wal-mart. Is it just me or should that have been anounnced a few months earlier? Like the GL 5 pack. Give it a few months for excitment to build. So I wouldn't be surprised if we get some things like that. The GLC line might be like that. That might be a line I get everyone in, unlike how DCUC has been lately. Just some of these obscure characters. I mean if they haven't been on a cartoon or in the BN/BD comics lately, I have no clue who they are. And that isn't exactly a good thing since if I don't know them, are the kids this line supposedly relys on?

Maaaan, Mattel has all but dropped that act a while ago. Everybody knows (or al least they should by now) that DCUC is made possible by adults & kids have next to nothing to do with them due to their obsecurity.

How ever I do understand the marketing principals of the whole "let the excitment build" thing, even if I don't understand why it would make a person buy something. If I like something I buy it plain & simple. I don't care if its the talk of the community or a complete bore to another.

Last I heard, Mattel still thinks kids suppor the line. The recent All Stars and TRU exclusive repaints are a great example. Sure the adults want the new repaints, but we've already got most/all of those all stars. So they aren't really for us, but the kids me thinks.

Now I'm not saying we need the near year wait DCD is doing with us on Arkham Asylum, but I think a little more notice than showing off production samples of the product for the first time at SDCC while the actual product is on the boat from China would be nice. Sure these aren't expensive HT figures, but if you are still buying a full wave, they are now the price of a cheap HT figure! And that kind take a little planning to fit into the budget, so unexpected arrivals aren't always the best.

Buttmunch you mean to tell me you really fell for that whole re-vamped "all stars" marketing ploy?? So I guess its just by meer chance that the all stars are all once upon a time peg warmers in their original release.

Mattel in no way hold children as a primary demo for this line. any Q&A or what ever else you may have read about kids being the main target is totaly B.S.!! Mattel & many other Toy Co. have for a long time now used that sad excuse to cloak their shaddy under dealing the control their adult toy market.

When Mattel re-paints & repackages select DCUC figs its cause they are just looking to dump over stock. As of late I've noticed someting odd about TRU's stock. Its starting to slowly slip in to the same "dead pool" as K B did a few years befor they went under. They are starting to buy over stock to hock. & their staff hae dwindled down to near nothing.

I'm sorry to say that buying unwanted junk did not help KB pull out of their nose dive & I doubt it will help TRU either.

I interviewed with them several years ago and noticed a trend that way then. I was working for Barnes & Noble at the time and came from a decent sized store that was fully staffed. They looked at me kinda crazy when I told them how many people we had on any given shift that I ran. They said get used to running with like 1 or 2 people per shift. Needless to say I didn't take the job at then. I much prefer working for a company that values customer service and won't over tax the staff.

Got my wave 5 yesterday. Upon opening I was left a little cold, as there's little to no new tooling except for the heads and NO accessories. But after sleeping on it and seeing them seeded among the rest of the collection, I'm very happy. No stuck joints, though the plastic feels a little gummy on a few, most notably Amazo's fists. There's also a bit of leg warpage that I'll fix if it bothers me too much. The Atom and Black Lightning are easily my faves, though it's a head scratcher why they gave them open hands; Palmer could definitely use some science-y stuff to hold.

Metallo is awesome!!! My only problem is they should have given him closed fists or at least articulated the fingers. I had to apply excessive force (tm) to move his right elbow, but other than that he's perfect.

I have a feeling since Riddler was the easiest of the bunch to find and many folks (like me) managed to get one already, his price is gonna go waaaay down. But let's hope not, seeing as it looks like I'm not the only one who needs to unload an extra

Typical MO is 2 reg waves, 1 special wave, and some "leaks" at the presentation.
I agree that we'll see 15 & 16, GL wave, plus packaged Wave 14.

What fig does the left arm come with? My brother and I have all figs available except Black Lightning and we don't need his CnC.

So if it comes with one of the others, you can buy the whole thing. but if its BLs, you can buy just the part.
