this is my next most anticipated line after ht superman and potentially ht indy if thats improved. cannot wait for some 1/6 bttf stuff!
Is the Mattel line confirmed to be 1/6?
Sucks so much that mattel doesnt show any BTTF protypes this year SDCC .Im looking forward to Marty and Doc Brown.
Well compared to their previous $2-$4 BTTF releases, this is their first big BTTF release. Sure it is probably just a 1:64 or 1:43 regular version for now, but we can expect a Elite 1:43 and a Elite 1:18 BTTF DeLorean some time next year just like the upcoming Elite Ecto-1.I guess I was hoping for something a little larger?
I remember that they said they can't do playsets or vehicles for 6" scale figures. Are you sure you didn't confuse the following quote from Mattel?Mattel (Toy Guru) posted in one of the other forums that Doc and Marty figures probably aren't going to happen as they're too expensive. They can't re-use the molds for other figures (like they can with He-Man and the Busters), so it doesn't fit in their business model.
4) Recently it was stated that if Castle Grayskull were to be produced, it would be quite expensive. However, what about other iconic, large scale pieces for other lines? Specifically, what would the cost be on an Ecto-1 for the GB line or a Delorean for the upcoming BttF line? Are these possible?
Also very unlikely due to the high tooling costs. While there is a very vocal group of fans asking for these executions, the cost and logistics involved do not always justify the limited sales we would make. While all are cool ideas and things we would “love” to do, there is just not a large enough customer base yet for larger playsets or vehicles in 6-inch scale. Maybe one day. (This doesn’t just apply to collector lines either, you will notice very few larger 6-inch scale vehicles or playsets out for mass market lines too. These items are just too expensive to make and they don’t sell well enough to justify the tooling and logistics involved).
3) Have Michael J Fox & Christopher Lloyd agreed to the use of their likenesses for the “Back to the Future” line?
Yes. But currently they are the only talent we have rights to use.

"Also, to manage fans expectations for BTTF; for the record, at this point we have not been green lit for ANY action figures for this property. While we would love to make figures from BTTF, and we are constantly exploring scenarios to do so for fall 2012, at this point the only skus Mattel has offically announced are from the Hot Wheels group.
We are continuing to explore possible figure exections, but so far, we have not found a scenario that will allow us to afford the high tooling cost (unlike MOTU or GB there really isn't much shared tooling for BTTF, every figure is a 100% new tool which is VERY expensive, especially when you consider the low quota on collector lines). We are committed to exploring scenarios to make this work, we just have not found one - YET.
Also, and as we stated multiple times, IF we ever do get to BTTF action figures (which we hope to do, but again is still a big IF at this time) we only have the rights to Michael J Fox and Christopher Lloyd's characters. So if it does happen (and again, IF) to manage expectations, it will be limited to Marty and Doc if it happens at all (at this time). If you are expecting a full line of all the characters your expectations will not be met at this time. We simply do not have access to any additional characters or actors from the series beyond Marty and Doc from all 3 films (at this time)."
I am shocked Fox is allowing his likeness to be used! That however opens the door... maybe Hot Toys will be able to get the the rights also.
