I'd love if we didn't have to poop. It's a nuisance in every way. Wish we could just beam it out of ourselves with Star Trek transporter technology.

So what's the cause of your problem currently? Are you not producing anything or are you terrified of opening up surgical wounds.....
How will I read anything though???

Good to know you are on the mend. Sucks that you feel down at times but in another week and a half I bet you will be feeling a lot better physically and that will help mentally. ****

Thanks JAWS!! :hi5:

Remember to post pics of your new Hulk statue when you get it!

Members that have seen my random posts about my shoulder / clavicle dislocation injury from a shower fall just wait until you hear the follow up lol

For starters I just completed my yearly physical in January with a clean bill of health whew thank the maker!

Anyways while getting a Catscan last friday related with my shoulder injury due to my neck also being injured from the fall guess what they found!

YUP you guessed it!

A carcinoma tumor on one of my kidneys! :slap

Had I not fallen and injured my shoulder I would’ve never known I had carcinoma in my body.

My removal surgery is imminent!

My force ghost dad must’ve forced pushed me in the shower lol

The moral of this tale you ask?

Get an MRI (with contrast?) in your yearly physical even if you have to pay out-of-pocket….well you will definitely have to pay out-of-pocket because insurance ain’t paying just for a yearly physical lol

But do it!

Remember I got a clean bill of health from my primary!

That is unless you have upcoming collectibles those always come first lol

Anyways i’ll just add what is more than likely cancer to my post covid current shoulder neck circus of tricks what is next WW3 with nukes lol
I'm getting an MRI on the 17th September. I've managed to give myself a trapped nerve issue affecting my left shoulder blade region, my shoulder into my arm and numbness in 2 fingers in my left hand. I spent my brother's wedding on the 25th in quite a great deal of pain even with prescribed painkillers. (Well the fact I couldn't resist having some alcoholic drinks probably didn't help)

But anyway it made me think of your situation. I'm wondering if my MRI will comprise an entire body scan or if I can request that on the day, I've never had one before.....

Wow first MRI :panic:

Dude they are nerve racking…for me anyways because I get claustrophobic and my nerve pain made it difficult to lay flat still.

They yell at you not to move well at least here in NY they do lol

I don’t know how medical insurance clearance works in Ireland but if it’s as strict as it is here you can NOT request a different MRI than what has been approved it simply just doesn’t work that way.

My total bill just for the kidney removal procedure and hospitalization came out to $250,000 plus another $80,000 in cardiac clearance exams and other MRI/Catscans/Xrays/ER/Office Visits and another $25,000 for my dislocated shoulder exams so in total:

$355,000 in 4 months!

Feel better and good luck my Irish forum brother!

Well I don't like confined spaces and being physically restrained. With this though...I'll know I'm not actually trapped. Closing my eyes might be sufficient....

Bummer. I thought if your whole body is going into this machine then maybe the coverage of the scan would be your entire body regardless of what problem necessitated the scan.

Fffffffff***!

How've you been doing since? I hope you've gotten your money's worth.

Thanks Jye. It actually first happened about a month ago after falling asleep in a bad position. But the pain was at 'nuisance' level then, mostly dealt with by normal painkillers. I seemed to recover, the pain was gone (except for the numbness in 2 fingers) until the very day of my 40th birthday when I knelt on the floor to wash my hair over the bathtub. I felt the twinge again. I went to sleep that night in pain but woke up the next day in supreme agony. Immediately knew I was a doctor-case especially with my brother's wedding the day after next. I couldn't get an appointment that day so had to make do with normal painkillers which this time had no effect whatsoever. The pain was constant, there was no such thing as a comfortable position or way to hold myself. Probably the worst pain I've ever experienced.

Right now, after a course of Difene and Solpadol it's mostly gone or reduced back to nuisance level. Seems like it's something that can recur though so the MRI is still warranted.

Worst type of discomforts are the ones rest don’t alleviate.

Tooth, pinched nerve and stones….no bueno lol

I’m doing good a-dev I drink tons of water……

and beer.

In .. 2018 I think? I began to experience nuisance level pain in my right shoulder and arm that intensified over a period of a few days until I literally could not sleep. I don't mean sleep poorly I mean I did not sleep.

Diagnosis was brachioradial nerve (if I recall) being compressed between a couple of neck vertebrae. The stiffness was likely caused by repetitive stress and who knows what kind of abuse my body took through sports and work over decades.

At its worst the pain was the worst I've ever felt, prevented sleep or use of my arm, ranged from constant shooting pain to tingling buzzing and numbness down to my hand.

Tried many different things -- chiro, acupuncture, myofascial massage (which was more effective in the end), many different mobility exercises. It alleviated, returned 6 months later and took me out again but not for as long (couple weeks instead of months) and eventually I could sense it coming on and head it off.

About 4 years later it's a thing of the past but I have changed the way I train, move and incorporate more mobility exercises into my daily routine to prevent it. I also don't engage in repetitive motion in my current line of work and activities so that surely helps.

Wow, yeah. So even if I think I'm on the mend it could just be a short reprieve. At least the MRI won't be a waste of money.

The doc recommended a local physiotherapist for me aswell but I haven't taken that up yet. MRI isn't far off so I might wait till I get the official diagnosis from that.

If this is like what I went through, it's less 'injury' and more 'dysfunction' -- so you will be able to address the acute symptoms but the only way to prevent it coming back will be to address the dysfunctional mechanics that cause it, which in my particular case was a combination of not doing some things, and doing a lot of new things. I'm confident it will never come back, but you'll need to take a look at your functional movement and unique bio-mechanics.

While I would pay special attention to the neck and thoracic spine, remember that everything in the body's connected, and also have your health practitioner (physio, RMT or whoever) look at the region opposite to the affected area to see if there are causal links there.

Disclaimer: I am not a health professional nor am I certain you're experiencing what I did, but it sounds pretty familiar so far.

You OLD *******S :lol

A-dev, get to know your physio. You've reached the age where strength and conditioning takes constant attention/effort. During the first two years of the pandemic I worked from home. I never realised how much I used to move through the day, but sitting in a chair for extended periods played havoc with my body - shortened my hamstrings, buggered up my glutes... then I took up soccer to 'get fit' and I've played the whole season with muscle strain - even though I swim regularly and still do a bit of martial arts. I've never been a gym goer, but now I'm looking at getting into lifting heavy things up and down just to feel fit and strong again.

p.s. my daughter had an MRI a while back and it cost us $500. Insured or not, that's the out-of-pocket rate. Our American cousins are batshit crazy when it comes to healthcare.

Each of my MRI’s ranged from $4,000 to $13,000!

Catscans were not far behind in cost.

To @Lejuan 's point -- I used to move and stay fit for fun. It's still fun but now it's also so everything doesn't fall apart. It's literally a use it or lose it situation. Luckily my job is physical as hell and requires many different movements; and I still work out but more mindfully now.

I know dudes in their 60s andd 70s that are stronger and more fit than men in their 30s, so it's not like anything ever needs to stop, but you do need to train smarter.

That's more in line with what I'm expecting. Certainly I was given no warning by my doctor of some massively exorbitant cost. I'd be willing to pay more for a full body scan if that's an option on the day. Just to ease occasional hypochondria fears about aches and pains....or indeed catch something early if there was something to be caught.

The newest MRI scanners have a mirror over your face at a 45 degree angle to reflect wallpaper that gives you the feeling you’re looking up at a skylight. They have this at the University of California Irvine medical center.

They also have earphones and music. MRI scanners are as loud as a train wreck.

I’ll be curious to learn about your experience.

Thank the maker I have dual medical coverage.

My own primary insurance and then I have my wife’s plan for secondary and get this the crazy part of it all is that my secondary covered more of my expenses than my primary did because I was in network at her hospital where she works. :dunno
